A modeling approach to design a software sensor and analyze agronomical features - Application to sap flow and grape quality relationship

This work proposes a framework using temporal data and domain knowledge in order to analyze complex agronomical features. The expertise is first formalized in an ontology, under the form of concepts and relationships between them, and then used in conjunction with raw data and mathematical models to design a software sensor. Next the software sensor outputs are put in relation to product quality, assessed by quantitative measurements. This requires the use of advanced data analysis methods, such as functional regression. The methodology is applied to a case study involving an experimental design in French vineyards. The temporal data consist of sap flow measurements, and the goal is to explain fruit quality (sugar concentration and weight), using vine's water courses through the various vine phenological stages. The results are discussed, as well as the method genericity and robustness.

Minimax adaptive tests for the Functional Linear model

We introduce two novel procedures to test the nullity of the slope function in the functional linear model with real output. The test statistics combine multiple testing ideas and random projections of the input data through functional Principal Component Analysis. Interestingly, the procedures are completely data-driven and do not require any prior knowledge on the smoothness of the slope nor on the smoothness of the covariate functions. The levels and powers against local alternatives are assessed in a nonasymptotic setting. This allows us to prove that these procedures are minimax adaptive (up to an unavoidable \log\log n multiplicative term) to the unknown regularity of the slope. As a side result, the minimax separation distances of the slope are derived for a large range of regularity classes. A numerical study illustrates these theoretical results.

Strong uniform consistency and asymptotic normality of a kernel based error density estimator in functional autoregressive models

Estimating the innovation probability density is an important issue in any regression analysis. This paper focuses on functional autoregressive models. A residual-based kernel estimator is proposed for the innovation density. Asymptotic properties of this estimator depend on the average prediction error of the functional autoregressive function. Sufficient conditions are studied to provide strong uniform consistency and asymptotic normality of the kernel density estimator.
