Degenerate soliton solutions and their interactions in coupled Hirota equation with trivial and nontrivial background

We construct two kinds of degenerate soliton solutions, one on the zero background and another on the plane wave background for the coupled Hirota equation. In the case of zero background field, we derive positon solutions of various orders. We also study interaction dynamics between positon solutions through asymptotic analysis and show that the positons exhibit time dependent phase shift during collision. We also construct hybrid solutions which composed of positons and solitons and examine the interaction between higher order positon and multi-solitons in detail. From the interaction, we demonstrate that the occurrence of elastic and inelastic interaction between multi-solitons and higher order positons. Further, we construct bound states among solitons and positons for the coupled Hirota equation. In the case of plane wave background, we construct breather-positon solutions. For the coupled Hirota equation, the breather-positon solutions are being reported first time in the literature. From the breather-positon solutions, we bring out certain interesting collision dynamics between breather-positons and positons.

Higher order smooth positon and breather positon solutions of an extended nonlinear Schrödinger equation with the cubic and quartic nonlinearity

We construct certain higher order smooth positon and breather positon solutions of an extended nonlinear Schrödinger equation with the cubic and quartic nonlinearity. We utilize the generalized Darboux transformation method to construct the aforementioned solutions. The three well-known equations, namely nonlinear Schrödinger equation, Hirota equation, and generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation, are sub-cases of the considered extended nonlinear Schrödinger equation. The solutions which we construct are more general. We analyze how the positon and breather positon solutions of the constituent equations get modified by the higher order nonlinear and dispersion terms. Our results show that the width and direction of the smooth positon and breather-positon solutions are highly sensitive to higher-order effects. Further, we carryout an asymptotic analysis to predict the behaviour of positons. We observe that during collision positons exhibit a time-dependent phase shift. We also present the exact expression of time-dependent phase shift of positons. Finally, we show that this time-dependent phase shift is directly proportional to the higher order nonlinear and dispersion parameters.

Nth order smooth positon and breather-positon solutions of a generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation

In this paper, we investigate smooth positon and breather-positon solutions of a generalized nonlinear Schrödinger (GNLS) equation which contains higher order nonlinear effects. With the help of generalized Darboux transformation (GDT) method we construct $N$th order smooth positon solutions of GNLS equation. We study the effect of higher order nonlinear terms on these solutions. Our investigations show that the positon solutions are highly compressed by higher order nonlinear effects. The direction of positons are also get changed. We also derive $N$th order breather-positon (B-P) solution with the help of GDT. We show that these B-Ps are well compressed by the effect of higher order nonlinear terms but the period of B-P solution is not affected as in the breather solution case.

Dark solitons, Breathers and Rogue Wave Solutions of the Coupled Generalized Nonlinear Schrödinger Equations

We construct dark-dark solitons, general breather (GB), Akhmediev breather (AB), Ma soliton (MS) and rogue wave (RW) solutions of a coupled generalized nonlinear Schrödinger (CGNLS) equation. While the dark-dark solitons are captured in the defocusing regime of CGNLS system, the other solutions, namely GB, AB, MS and RW, are identified in the focusing regime. We also analyze the structures of GB, AB, MS and RW profiles with respect to the four-wave mixing parameter. We show that when we increase the value of the real part of the four wave mixing parameter, the number of peaks in the breather profile increases and the width of each peak gets shrunk. Interestingly the direction of this profile also changes due to this change. As far as the RW profile is concerned the width of the peak becomes very thin when we increase the value of this parameter. Further, we consider RW solution as the starting point and derive AB, MS and GB in the reverse direction and show that the solutions obtained in both the directions match with each other. In the course of the reverse analysis we also demonstrate how to capture the RW solutions directly from AB and MS.

Generalized Darboux transformation and N-th order rogue wave solution of a general coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations

We construct a generalized Darboux transformation (GDT) of a general coupled nonlinear Schrödinger (GCNLS) system. Using GDT method we derive a recursive formula and present determinant representations for N-th order rogue wave solution of this system. Using these representations we derive first, second and third order rogue wave solutions with certain free parameters. By varying these free parameters we demonstrate the formation of triplet, triangle and hexagonal patterns of rogue waves.

On the characterization of breather and rogue wave solutions and modulation instability of a coupled generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equations

We construct Darboux transformation of a coupled generalized nonlinear Schrödinger (CGNLS) equations and obtain exact analytic expressions of breather and rogue wave solutions. We also formulate the conditions for isolating these solutions. We show that the rogue wave solution can be found only when the four wave mixing parameter becomes real. We also investigate the modulation instability of the steady state solution of CGNLS system and demonstrate that it can occur only when the four wave mixing parameter becomes real. Our results give an evidence for the connection between the occurrence of rogue wave solution and the modulation instability.

Akhmediev breathers, Ma solitons and general breathers from rogue waves: A case study in Manakov system

We present explicit forms of general breather (GB), Akhmediev breather (AB), Ma soliton (MS) and rogue wave (RW) solutions of the two component nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation, namely Manakov equation. We derive these solutions through two different routes. In the forward route we first construct a suitable periodic envelope soliton solution to this model from which we derive GB, AB, MS and RW solutions. We then consider the RW solution as the starting point and derive AB, MS and GB in the reverse direction. The second approach has not been illustrated so far for the two component NLS equation. Our results show that the above rational solutions of the Manakov system can be derived from the standard scalar nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a modified nonlinearity parameter. Through this two way approach we establish a broader understanding of these rational solutions which will be of interest in a variety of situations.
