Monte Carlo study of the phase diagram of layered XY antiferromagnet

The three-dimensional XY model is investigated in the presence of a uniform magnetic field applied in the $X$-direction. The nearest neighbour intraplanar interaction is considered ferromagnetic, and the interplanar nearest neighbour interaction is chosen to be antiferromagnetic. Starting from a high-temperature initial random spin configuration, the equilibrium phase of the system at any finite temperature was achieved by cooling the system using the Monte Carlo single spin-flip Metropolis algorithm with a random updating rule. The components of total magnetisation and the sublattice magnetisations were calculated. The variance of the antiferromagnetic order parameter and the susceptibility have been calculated. In a specific range of relative strengths of interactions (antiferromagnetic/ferromagnetic) and the applied magnetic field, the system shows the equilibrium phase transitions at different temperatures. The phase diagrams (in the field-temperature plane) were obtained for different values of the relative interaction strengths. The ordered region bounded by the phase boundary was found to increase as the ratio of relative interaction strength increased. Furthermore, the maximum value of the susceptibility ($χ^m_{ay}$) was found to increase with the system size ($L$). For $χ^m_{ay} \sim L^{γ \over ν}$, the exponent $γ/ν$ has been estimated to be 2.10$\pm0.11$ .

Rodlike Heisenberg nanomagnet driven by propagating magnetic field: Nonequilibrium phase transition

The dynamical responses of a rodlike anisotropic Heisenberg ferromagnet, irradiated by the propagating magnetic field wave, have been studied by Monte Carlo simulation using Metropolis single spin-flip algorithm. A nonequilibrium dynamical phase transition has been observed. The transition temperature has been obtained from the peak position of the variance of the dynamic order parameter plotted as a function of the temperature. The transition has been found to occur at a lower temperature for the higher value of the amplitude of the propagating magnetic field wave. A comprehensive phase boundary was drawn. The phase boundary has been found to be insensitive to the wavelength of the propagating field wave. The boundary encloses more area of the region of the ordered phase for stronger anisotropy.

Anisotropy driven reversal of magnetisation in Blume-Capel ferromagnet: A Monte Carlo study

The two dimensional Spin-1 Blume-Capel ferromagnet is studied by Monte Carlo simulation with Metropolis algorithm. Starting from initial ordered spin configuration the reversal of magnetisation is investigated in presence of a magnetic field ($h$) applied in the opposite direction. The variations of the reversal time with the strength of single site anisotropy are investigated in details. The exponential dependence was observed. The systematic variations of the mean reversal time with positive and negative anisotropy was found. The mean macroscopic reversal time was observed to be linearly dependent on a suitably defined microscopic reversal time. The saturated magnetisation $M_f$ after the reversal was noticed to be dependent of the strength of anisotropy $D$. An interesting scaling relation was obtained, $|M_f| \sim |h|^βf(D|h|^{-α})$ with the scaling function of the form $f(x)= \frac{1}{1+e^{(x-a)/b}}$. The temporal evolution of density of $S_i^z=0$ (surrounded by all $S_i^z=+1$) is observed to be exponentially decaying. The growth of mean density of $S_i^z=-1$ has been fitted in a function $ρ_{-1}(t) \sim \frac{1}{a+e^{(t_c-t)/c}}$. The characteristic time shows $t_c \sim e^{-rD}$ and a crossover in the rate of exponential falling is observed at $D=1.5$. The metastable volume fraction has been found to obey the Avrami's law.

Compensation in the spin-1/2 site diluted Ising ferrimagnet: A Monte Carlo study

A two-dimensional spin-1/2 trilayer magnetic system with quenched non-magnetic impurity is studied. The lattice is formed by alternate layers of two different theoretical atoms A and B arranged in a particular fashion A-B-A. The compensation point appears below the critical temperature, for which total magnetization of the system becomes zero even though the sublattice magnetization has a nonzero value. For a range of values of the relative interaction strength in the Hamiltonian, a compensation point is observed. We considered the Ising mechanics and employed the Monte Carlo method to determine the compensation point and critical temperature of the system. However, the effects of impurity in such systems are still not well studied. With that in mind, we address the effects of random non-magnetic impurity in the trilayer system. We also investigate the lattice morphologies in the presence of compensation and dilution and finally obtain the three-dimensional phase diagram for selected Hamiltonian parameters and impurity concentration.

Modelling the Spread of an Epidemic in Presence of Vaccination using Cellular Automata

The results of Kermack-McKendrick SIR model are planned to be reproduced by cellular automata (CA) lattice model. The CA algorithms are proposed to study the model of epidemic, systematically. The basic goal is to capture the effects of spreading of infection over a scale of length. This CA model can provide the rate of growth of the infection over the space which was lacking in the mean-field like SIR model. The motion of the circular front of an infected cluster shows a linear behaviour in time. The correlation of a particular site to be infected, with respect to the central site is also studied. The outcomes of CA model are in good agreement with that obtained from SIR model. The results of vaccination have been also incorporated in the CA algorithm with a satisfactory degree of success. The advantage of the present model is that it can shed considerable amount of light to the physical properties of the spread of a typical epidemic in a simple, yet robust way.

Effects of random fields on the reversal of magnetisation of Ising ferromagnet

We have studied the reversal time of the magnetisation in two dimensional Ising ferromagnet in the presence of externally applied uniform magnetic field using Monte Carlo simulation based on Metropolis single spin flip algorithm. Then we have investigated the change in reversal time due to the presence of quenched random field in addition to the uniform magnetic field. We report the results of statistical distribution of reversal times in the presence of three different types of the distributions (namely, uniform, bimodal and normal) of random fields and compared the results with those obtained for uniform field only. We have observed that the reversal time decreases due to the presence of any kind (of distribution) of the random fields. The metastable volume fraction is observed to follow the Avrami's law. Dependence of reversal times on temperature and different widths of the distributions of random fields are also reported. We have also checked whether the system obeyed Becker-Doring theory of classical nucleation in presence of additional random field and tried to investigate the range of the width of the distribution of random field. For larger width of the distribution of random field, the system fails to show the reversal via the nucleation of a single droplet (for small values of uniform field only). The possible reason is analysed.

Metastability in graded and step like variation of field and anisotropy of the Blume-Capel ferromagnet

The metastable behaviour of two dimensional anisotropic Blume-Capel ferromagnet, under the influence of graded and stepped like variations of magnetic field, has been investigated by extensive Monte Carlo simulation using Metropolis single spin flip algorithm. Starting from the initial perfectly ordered state, reversal of magnetisation has been studied in presence of the field. Metastable lifetime or the reversal time of magnetisation for the system having uniform anisotropy and in the presence of both graded and stepped field has been studied. Also the same has been explored for a {\it graded and stepped anisotropic system} in presence of a uniform field. Finite size effect is analyzed for the variation of reversal time with gradient of field ($G_h$) and a scaling relation $\langle τ\rangle \sim L^{-β} f(G_h L^α)$ is proposed. Spatial variation of density profile for the projection states (i.e., +1, 0 and -1) has also been studied at the moment of reversal of magnetisation. The spatial variation of the number of spin flips per site is studied. Motion of the interface (or domain wall) with the gradient of field and gradient of anisotropy are investigated and are found to follow the hyperbolic tangent like behaviours in both cases. Since, both the anisotropy and the applied field have significant impact on the metastable lifetime, an interesting competitive scenario is observed for a {\it graded anisotropic system in graded field} and a {\it stepped anisotropic system in stepped field}. A line of marginal competition has been found out for both the cases separating the regions of field dominated reversal and anisotropy dominated reversal. The decay of the metastable volume fraction was found to follow the Avrami's law. The mean reversal time was observed to decrease monotonically across the phase boundary of the ferro-para transition.

Nonequilibrium Multiple Transitions in the Core-shell Ising Nanoparticles Driven by Randomly Varying Magnetic Fields

The nonequilibrium behaviour of a core-shell nanoparticle has been studied by Monte- Carlo simulation. The core consists of Ising spins of $σ=1/2$ and the shell contains Ising spins of $S=1$. The interactions within the core and in the shell are considered ferromagnetic but the interfacial interaction between core and shell is antiferromagnetic. The nanoparticle system is kept in open boundary conditions and is driven by randomly varying (in time but uniform over the space) magnetic field. Depending on the width of the randomly varying field and the temperature of the system, the core, shell and total magnetization varies in such a manner that the time averages vanish for higher magnitude of the width of random field, exhibiting a dynamical symmetry breaking transitions. The susceptibilities get peaked at two different temperatures indicating nonequilibrium multiple transitions. The phase boundaries of the nonequilibrium multiple transitions are drawn in the plane formed by the axes of temperature and the width of the randomly varying field. Furthermore, the effects of the core and shell thicknesses on the multiple transitions have been discussed.

Role of anisotropy to the compensation in the Blume-Capel trilayered ferrimagnet

The trilayered Blume-Capel ($S=1$) magnet with nearest neighbour intralayer ferromagnetic and nearest neighbour interlayer antiferromagnetic interaction is studied by Monte Carlo simulation. Depending on the relative interaction strength and the value of anisotropy the critical temperature (where all the sublattice magnetisations and consequently the total magnetisation vanishes) and the compensation temperature (where the total magnetisation vanishes for a special combination of nonzero sublattice magnetisations) are estimated. The comprehensive phase diagrams with lines of critical temperatures and compensation temperatures for different parameter values are drawn.

A Monte Carlo Study on the Variation of Residual Magnetisation with the Ratio of Coupling Strengths and Non-magnetic Impurities in an Ising Trilayer

We have studied a spin-1/2, ABA, Ising trilayer system with two different types of interactions, in-plane ferromagnetic and out-of-plane anti-ferromagnetic, among the lattice sites, on different layers. In the pure case, devoid of any impurity, we employed Monte-Carlo method with single spin-flip Metropolis algorithm to find out the anti-ferromagnetic critical temperature (Néel temperature) and another lower temperature, called the compensation temperature, both with total magnetisation zero, in accordance with already established results for square lattice. Then non-magnetic impurities, (spin value= 0) were implanted on each layer at randomly picked sites and their concentration was increased in steps from 5% to 20%. The ratio of inter-planar anti-ferromagnetic to mid-layer ferromagnetic coupling strength as well as the ratio of top and bottom layer ferromagnetic to mid layer ferromagnetic coupling strength were also varied and Néel and compensation temperatures, both were observed shifting towards lower temperature values with increase in concentration of impurities in the lattice for any fixed ratio of different coupling strengths, in absence of any external magnetic field. In addition, the magnitude of the residual magnetisation i.e. the ratio of the peak value of the magnetisation in between Néel and compensation points and the saturated value of magnetisation, was also observed to vary with different values of controlling parameters.

Universality class of the nonequilibrium phase transition in two dimensional Ising ferromagnet driven by propagating magnetic field wave

The finite size analysis of the nonequilibrium phase transition, in two dimensional Ising ferromagnet driven by plane propagating magneticwave, is studied by Monte Carlo simulation. It is observed that the system undergoes a nonequilibrium dynamicphase transition from a high temperature dynamically symmetric ({\it propagating}) phase to a low temperature dynamically symmetry-broken ({\it pinned}) phase as the system is cooled below the transition temperature. This transition temperature is determined precisely by studying the fourth order Binder Cumulant of the dynamic order parameter as a function of temperature for different system sizes ($L$). From the finite size analysis of dynamic order parameter ($Q_L \sim L^{-{β \over ν}}$) and the dynamic susceptibility ($χ^{Q}_{L} \sim L^{γ \over ν}$), we have estimated the critical exponents $β/ν=0.146\pm0.025$ and $γ/ν=1.869\pm0.135$ (measured from the data read at the critical temperature obtained from Binder cumulant), and $γ/ν=1.746\pm0.017$ (measured from the peak positions of dynamic susceptibility). Our results indicate that such driven Ising ferromagnet belongs to the same universality class of the two-dimensional equilibrium Ising ferromagnet (where $β/ν=1/8$ and $γ/ν=7/4$), within the limits of statistical errors.

Blume-Capel ferromagnet driven by propagating and standing magnetic field wave: Dynamical modes and nonequilibrium phase transition

The dynamical responses of Blume-Capel (S=1) ferromagnet to the plane propagating (with fixed frequency and wavelength) and standing magnetic field waves are studied sepa- rately in two dimensions by extensive Monte Carlo simulation. Depending on the values of temperature, amplitude of the propagating magnetic field and the strength of anisotropy, two different dynamical phases are observed. For a fixed value of anisotropy and the amplitude of the propagating magnetic field, the system undergoes a dynamical phase transition from a driven spin wave propagating phase to a pinned or spin frozen state as the system is cooled down. The time averaged magnetisation over a full cycle of the propagating magnetic field plays the role of the dynamic order parameter. A comprehensive phase diagram is plotted in the plane formed by the amplitude of the propagating wave and the temperature of the system. It is found that the phase boundary shrinks inward as the anisotropy increases. The phase boundary, in the plane described by the strength of the anisotropy and temperature, is also drawn. This phase boundary was observed to shrink inward as the field amplitude increases.

Reversal of magnetisation in Ising ferromagnet by the field having gradient

We have studied the reversal of magnetisation in Ising ferromagnet by the field having gradient along a particular direction. We employed the Monte Carlo simulation with Metropolis single spin flip algorithm. The average lifetime of the metastable state was observed to increase with the magnitude of the gradient of applied field. In the high gradient regime, the system was observed to show two distinct region of up and down spins. The interface or the domain wall was observed to move as one increases the gradient. The displacement of the mean position of the interface was observed to increase with the gradient as hyperbolic tangent function. The roughness of the interface was observed to decay exponentially as the gradient increases. The number of spin flip per site was observed to show a discontinuity in the vicinity of the domain wall. The amount of the discontinuity was found to diverge with the system size as a power law fashion with an exponent 5/3.

Spatio-temporal dynamics of Kuramoto-Sakaguchi model with time dependent connectivity

We have studied the dynamics of the paradigmatic Kuramoto-Sakaguchi model of identical coupled phase oscilla- tors with various kinds of time-dependent connectivity using Eulerian discretization. We first explore the parameter spaces for various types of collective states using the phase plots of the two statistical quantities, namely the strength of incoherence and the discontinity measure. In the quasi-static limit of the changing of coupling range, we have observed how the system relaxes from one state to another and have identified a few interesting collective dynamical states along the way. Under a sinusoidal change of the coupling range, the global order parameter characterizing the degree of synchronization in the system is shown to undergo a hysteresis with the coupling range. Finally, we study the low-dimensional spatio-temporal dynamics of the local order parameter in the continuum limit using the recently-developed Ott-Antonsen ansatz and justify some of our numerical results. In particular, we identify an intrinsic time-scale of the Kuramoto system and show that the simulations exhibit two distinct kinds of qualitative behavior in two cases when the time-scale associated with the switching of the coupling radius is very large compared to the intrinsic time-scale and when it is comparable with the intrinsic time-scale.

Standing magnetic wave on Ising ferromagnet: Nonequilibrium phase transition

The dynamical response of an Ising ferromagnet to a plane polarised standing magnetic field wave is modelled and studied here by Monte Carlo simulation in two dimensions. The amplitude of standing magnetic wave is modulated along the direction x. We have detected two main dynamical phases namely, pinned and oscillating spin clusters. Depending on the value of field amplitude the system is found to undergo a phase transition from oscillating spin cluster to pinned as the system is cooled down. The time averaged magnetisation over a full cycle of magnetic field oscillations is defined as the dynamic order parameter. The transition is detected by studying the temperature dependences of the variance of the dynamic order parameter, the derivative of the dynamic order parameter and the dynamic specific heat. The dependence of the transition temperature on the magnetic field amplitude and on the wavelength of the magnetic field wave is studied at a single frequency. A comprehensive phase boundary is drawn in the plane described by the temperature and field amplitude for two different wavelengths of the magnetic wave. The variation of instantaneous line magnetisation during a period of magnetic field oscillation for standing wave mode is compared to those for the propagating wave mode. Also the probability that a spin at any site, flips, is calculated. The above mentioned variations and the probability of spin flip clearly distinguish between the dynamical phases formed by propagating magnetic wave and by standing magnetic wave in an Ising ferromagnet.

Exit probability and first passage time of a lazy Pearson walker: Scaling behaviour

The motion of a lazy Pearson walker is studied with different probability ($p$) of jump in two and three dimensions. The probability of exit ($P_e$) from a zone of radius $r_e$, is studied as a function of $r_e$ with different values of jump probability $p$. The exit probability $P_e$ is found to scale as ${P_e}p^α=F({r_e}p^β)$, which is obtained by method of data collapse. The first passage time ($t_1$) i.e., the time required for first exit from a zone is studied. The probability distribution ($P(t_1)$) of first passage time was studied for different values of jump probability ($p$). The probability distribution of first passage time was found to scale as ${P(t_1)}p^γ = G({t_1}p^δ)$. Where, $F$ and $G$ are two scaling functions and $α$, $β$, $γ$ and $δ$ are some exponents. In both the dimensions, it is found that, $α= 0$, $β=-1/2$, $γ=-1$ and $δ=1$.

Ising Metamagnet Driven by Propagating Magnetic Field Wave: Nonequilibrium Phases and Transitions

The nonequilibrium responses of Ising metamagnet (layered antiferromagnet) to the propagating magnetic wave are studied by Monte Carlo simulation. Here, the spatio-temporal variations of magnetic field keeps the system away from equilibrium. The sublattice magnetisations show dynamical symmetry breaking in the low temperature ordered phase. The nonequilibrium phase transitions are studied from the temperature dependences of dynamic staggered order parameter, its derivative and the dynamic specific heat. The transitions are marked by the peak position of dynamic specific heat and the position of dip of the derivative of dynamic staggered order parameter. It is observed that, for lower values of the amplitudes of the propagating magnetic field, if the system is cooled from a high temperature, it undergoes a phase transition showing sharp peak of dynamic specific heat and sharp dip of the derivative of the dynamic staggered order parameter. However, for higher values of the amplitude of the propagating magnetic field, system exhibits multiple phase transitions. A comprehensive phase diagram is also plotted. The transition, for vanishingly small value of the amplitude of the propagating wave, is very close to that for equilibrium ferro-para phase transition of cubic Ising ferromagnet.

Model and Statistical Analysis of the Motion of a Tired Random Walker in Continuum

The model of a tired random walker, whose jump-length decays exponentially in time, is proposed and the motion of such a tired random walker is studied systematically in one, two and three dimensional contin- uum. In all cases, the diffusive nature of walker, breaks down due to tiring which is quite obvious. In one dimension, the distribution of the displace- ment of a tired walker remains Gaussian (as observed in normal walker) with reduced width. In two and three dimensions, the probability distribution of displacement becomes nonmonotonic and unimodal. The most probable displacement and the deviation reduces as the tiring factor increases. The probability of return of a tired walker, decreases as the tiring factor increases in one and two dimensions. However, in three dimensions, it is found that the probability of return almost insensitive to the tiring factor. The prob- ability distributions of first return time of a tired random walker do not show the scale invariance as observed for a normal walker in continuum. The exponents, of such power law distributions of first return time, in all three dimensions are estimated for normal walker. The exit probability and the probability distribution of first passage time are found in all three dimensions. A few results are compared with available analytical calculations for normal walker.

Standing spin wave mode in RFIM at T=0: Patterns and nonequilibrium phases

The dynamical responses of random field Ising model at zero temperature, driven by standing magnetic field wave, is studied by Monte Carlo simulation in two dimensions. The three different kinds of distribution of quenched random field are used here, uniform, bimodal and Gaussian. In all cases, three distinct dynamical phases were observed, namely, the pinned, structured and random. In the pinned phase no spin flip is observed. In the structured phase standing spin wave modes are observed. The random phase is shown no regular pattern. For a fixed value of the amplitude of the standing magnetic field wave, in the region of small quenched field, the system remains in a pinned phase. In the intermediate range of values of random field, a standing spin wave mode (structured phase) is observed. The regular pattern of this spin wave mode disappears for higher values of random field yielding a random phase. The comprehensive phase baundaries are drawn in all three cases. The boundary of pinned phase are analytically calculated for uniform and bimodal types of quenched random fields.

Nucleation in the Ising ferromagnet by a field spatially spreading in time

The nucleation in Ising ferromagnet has been studied by Monte Carlo simulation. Here, the magnetic field is spreading over the space in time. The nucleation time is observed to increase as compared to that in the case of static field. The clusters of negative spins is observed to grow from the center. The growth of effective magnetisation is studied with temperature and the strength of spreading magnetic field. The ratio of nucleation time and effective time is also studied with strength of spreading magnetic field. The effective time would introduce itself as a new scale of time in the case of nucleation by spatially spreading magnetic field. The effective time and the nucleation time both are observed to decrease as a power law fashion with the rate factor of spreading magnetic field.

Dynamic-Symmetry-Breaking Breathing and Spreading Transitions in Ferromagnetic Film Irradiated by Spherical Electromagnetic Wave

The dynamical responses of a ferromagnetic film to a propagating spherical electromagnetic wave passing through it are studied by Monte Carlo simulation of two dimensional Ising ferromagnet. For a fixed set of values of the frequency and wavelength of the spherical EM wave, and depending on the values of amplitude of the EM wave and temperature of the system, three different modes are identified. The static pinned mode, the localised dynamical breathing mode and extended dynamical spreading mode are observed. The nonequilibrium dynamical-symmetry-breaking breathing and spreading phase transitions are also observed and the transition temperatures are obtained as functions of the amplitude of the magnetic field of EM wave. A comprehensive phase diagram is drawn. The boundaries of breathing and spreading transitions merge eventually at the equilibrium transition temperature for two dimensional Ising ferromagnet as the value of the amplitude of the magnetic field becomes vanishingly small.

Random field Ising model swept by propagating magnetic field wave: Athermal nonequilibrium phase diagram

The dynamical steady state behaviour of the random field Ising ferromagnet swept by a propagating magnetic field wave is studied at zero temperature by Monte Carlo simulation in two dimensions. The distribution of the random field is bimodal type. For a fixed set of values of the frequency and wavelength of propagating magnetic field wave and the strength of the random field, four distinct dynamical steady states or nonequilibrium phases were identified. These four nonequilibrium phases are characterised by different values of structure factors. State of first kind, where all spins are parallel (up). The second one is, the propagating type, where the sharp strips formed by parallel spins are found to move coherently. The third one is also propagating type, where the boundary of the strips of spins is not very sharp. The fourth kind, shows no propagation of stripes of magnetic spins, forming a homogeneous distribution of up and down spins. This is disordered phase The appearance of these four dynamical phases or modes depends on the value of the amplitude of propagating magnetic field wave and the strength of random (static) field. A phase diagram has also been drawn, in the plane formed by the amplitude of propagating field and the strength of random field. It is checked that, the existence of these dynamical phases is neither a finite size effect nor a transient phenomenon.

Bose - Einstein condensation in arbitrary dimensions

The density of bosonic states are calculated for spinless free massive bosons in generalised d dimensions. The number of bosons are calculated in the lowest energy state. The Bose Einstein condensation was found in generalised d dimensions (on and above d = 3) and the condensation temperature is calculated which is observed to drop abruptly above three dimensions and decreases monotonically as the dimensionalities of the system increases. The rate of fall of the condensation temperature decreases as the dimensionality increases. Interestingly, in the limit of infinite dimensions, the condensation temperature is observed to approach a nonzero finite value.

Nonequilibrium phase transition in the kinetic Ising model driven by propagating magnetic field wave

The two dimensional ferromagnetic Ising model in the presence of a propagating magnetic field wave (with well defined frequency and wavelength) is studied by Mone Carlo simulation. This study differs from all of the earlier studies done so far, where the oscillating magnetic field was considered to be uniform in space. The time average magnetisation over a full cycle (the time period) of the propagating magnetic field acts as the dynamic order parameter. The dynamical phase transition is observed. The temperature variation of the dynamic order parameter, the mean square deviation of the dynamic order parameter, the dynamic specific heat and the derivative of the dynamic order parameter are studied. The mean square deviation of the dynamic order parameter, dynamic specific heat show sharp maxima near the transition point. The derivative of dynamic order parameter shows sharp minimum near the transition point. The transition temperature is found to depend also on the speed of propagation of the magnetic field wave.

Critical Slowing Down Along the Dynamic Phase Boundary in Ising Meanfield Dynamics

We studied the dynamical phase transition in kinetic Ising ferromagnets driven by oscillating magnetic field in meanfield approximation. The meanfield differential equation was solved by sixth order Runge-Kutta-Felberg method. The time averaged magnetisation plays the role of the dynamic order parameter. We studied the relaxation behaviour of the dynamic order parameter close to the transition temperature, which depends on the amplitude of the applied magnetic field. We observed the critical slowing down along the dynamic phase boundary. We proposed a power law divergence of the relaxation time and estimated the exponent. We also found its dependence on the field amplitude and compared the result with the exact value in limiting case.

Nonequilibrium Magnetisation Reversal by Periodic Impulsive Field in Ising Meanfield Dynamics

We studied the nonequilibrium magnetisation reversal in kinetic Ising ferromagnets driven by periodic impulsive magnetic field in meanfield approximation. The meanfield differential equation was solved by sixth order Runge-Kutta-Felberg method. The periodicity and strength of the applied impulsive magnetic field play the key role in magnetisation reversal. We studied the minimum strength of impulsive field required for magnetisation reversal at any temperature as a function of the periodicity of the impulsive field. In the high temperature and small period this is observed to be linear. The results are compared with that obtained from Monte Carlo simulation of a three dimensional Ising ferromagnet.

Noninteracting Fermions in infinite dimensions

Usually, we study the statistical behaviours of noninteracting Fermions in finite (mainly two and three) dimensions. For a fixed number of fermions, the average energy per fermion is calculated in two and in three dimensions and it becomes equal to 50 and 60 per cent of the fermi energy respectively. However, in the higher dimensions this percentage increases as the dimensionality increases and in infinite dimensions it becomes 100 per cent. This is an intersting result, at least pedagogically. Which implies all fermions are moving with Fermi momentum. This result is not yet discussed in standard text books of quantum statistics. In this paper, this fact is discussed and explained. I hope, this article will be helpful for graduate students to study the behaviours of free fermions in generalised dimensionality.

Inflection point as a manifestation of tricritical point on the dynamic phase boundary in Ising meanfield dynamics

We studied the dynamical phase transition in kinetic Ising ferromagnet driven by oscillating magnetic field in meanfield approximation. The meanfield differential equation was solved by sixth order Runge-Kutta-Felberg method. We calculated the transition temperature as a function of amplitude and frequency of the oscillating field. This was plotted against field amplitude taking frequency as a parameter. As frequency increases the phase boundary is observed to become inflated. The phase boundary shows an inflection point which separates the nature of the transition. On the dynamic phase boundary a tricritical point (TCP) was found, which separates the nature (continuous/discontinuous) of the dynamic transition across the phase boundary. The inflection point is identified as the TCP and hence a simpler method of determining the position of TCP was found. TCP was observed to shift towards high field for higher frequency. As frequency decreases the dynamic phase boundary is observe to shrink. In the zero frequency limit this boundary shows a tendency to merge to the temperature variation of the coercive field.

Nonequilibrium multicritical behavior in anisotropic Heisenberg ferromagnet driven by oscillating magnetic field

The Heisenberg ferromagnet (uniaxially anisotropic along z-direction), in the presence of time dependent (but uniform over space) magnetic field, is studied by Monte Carlo simulation. The time dependent magnetic field was taken as elliptically polarised in such a way that the resulting field vector rotates in the XZ plane. In the limit of low anisotropy, the dynamical responses of the system are studied as functions of temperature and the amplitudes of the magnetic field. As the temperature decreases, it aws found that the system undergoes multiple dynamical phase transitions. In this limit, the multiple transitions were studied in details and the phase diagram for this observed multicritical behaviour was drawn in the field amplitude and temperature palne. The natures (continuous/discontinuous) of the transitions are determined by the temperature variations of fourth order Binder cumulant ratio and the distributions of the order parameter near the transition points. The transitions are supported by finite size study. The temperature variations of the variances of dynamic order parameter components (for different system sizes) indicate the existence of diverging length scale near the dynamic transition points. The frequency dependences of the transition temperatures of the multiple dynamic transition are also studied briefly.

The time dependent magnetic field was taken as elliptically polarised where the resultant field vector rotates in X-Z plane. The system is cooled (in presence of the elliptically polarised magnetic field) from high temperature. As the temperature decreases, it was found that in the low anisotropy limit the system undergoes three successive dynamical phase transitions. These three dynamic transitions were confirmed by studying the temperature variation of dynamic 'specific heat'. The temperature variation of dynamic 'specific heat' shows three peaks indicating three dynamic transition points.

Zero-temperature dynamic transition in the random field Ising model: A Monte Carlo study

The dynamics of a random (quenched) field Ising model (in two dimension) at zero temperature in the presence of an additional sinusoidally oscillating homogeneous (in space) magnetic field has been studied by Monte Carlo simulation using the Metropolis single spin flip dynamics. The instantaneous magnetisation is found to be periodic with the same periodicity of the oscillating magnetic field. For very low values of amplitude of oscillating field and the width of randomly quenched magnetic field, the magnetisation oscillates asymmetrically about a nonzero value and the oscillation becomes symmetric about a zero value for higher values of amplitude of oscillating field and the width of the quenched disorder. The time averaged magnetisation over a full cycle of the oscillating magnetic field defines the dynamic order parameter. This dynamic order parameter is nonzero for very low values of amplitude of oscillating magnetic field and the width of randomly quenched field. A phase boundary line is drawn in the plane formed by the amplitude of the oscillating magnetic field and the width of the randomly quenched magnetic field. A tricritical point has been located, on the phase boundary line, which separates the nature (discontinuous /continuous) of the dynamic transition.

Nonequilibrium Phase Transition and 'Specific-heat' singularity in the kinetic Ising model: A Monte Carlo Study

The nonequilibrium phase transition has been studied by Monte Carlo simulation in a ferromagnetically interacting (nearest neighbour) kinetic Ising model in presence of a sinusoidally oscillating magnetic field. The ('specific-heat') temperature derivative of energies (averaged over a full cycle of the oscillating field) diverge near the dynamic transition point.
