We present recent results on elliptic boundary value problems where the theory of Hardy spaces associated with operators plays a key role.
A full interpolation theory for Sobolev functions with smoothness between 0 and 1 and vanishing trace on a part of the boundary of an open set is established. Geometric assumptions are of mostly measure theoretic nature and reach beyond Lipschitz regular domains. Previous results were limited to regular geometric configurations or Hilbertian Sobolev spaces. Sets with porous boundary and their characteristic multipliers on smoothness spaces play a major role in the arguments.
Second order divergence form operators are studied on an open set with various boundary conditions. It is shown that the p-ellipticity condition of Carbonaro-Dragicevic and Dindos-Pipher implies extrapolation to a holomorphic semigroup on Lebesgue spaces in a p-dependent range of exponents that extends the maximal range for general strictly elliptic coefficients. Results have immediate consequences for the harmonic analysis of such operators, including Hoo-calculi and Riesz transforms.
Let $Ω$ be a bounded domain in R n with a Sobolev extension property around the complement of a closed part D of its boundary. We prove that a function u $\in$ W 1,p ($Ω$) vanishes on D in the sense of an interior trace if and only if it can be approximated within W 1,p ($Ω$) by smooth functions with support away from D. We also review several other equivalent characterizations, so to draw a rather complete picture of these Sobolev functions vanishing on a part of the boundary.
We develop a geometric framework for Hardy's inequality on a bounded domain when the functions do vanish only on a closed portion of the boundary.
Let $(r_{n})_{n \in \mathbb{N}}$ be the sequence of subdiagonal Padé approximations of the exponential function. We prove that for $-A$ the generator of a uniformly bounded $C_{0}$-semigroup $T$ on a Banach space $X$, the sequence $(r_{n}(-tA))_{n \in\mathbb{N}}$ converges strongly to $T(t)$ on $\textrm{D}(A^α)$ for $α>\frac{1}{2}$. Local uniform convergence in $t$ and explicit convergence rates in $n$ are established. For specific classes of semigroups, such as bounded analytic or exponentially $γ$-stable ones, stronger estimates are proved. Finally, applications to the inversion of the vector-valued Laplace transform are given.
