An eigen decomposition based closed-form solution for the Discrete Lyapunov and Stein Equations

A simple closed-form solution to the discrete Lyapunov equation (DLE) is established for certain families of matrices. This solution is expressed in terms of the eigen decomposition (ED) for which closed-form solutions are known for all 2x2; 3x3 and certain families of matrices. For general matrices, the proposed ED based closed-form solution can be used as an efficient numerical solution when the ED can be computed. The result is then extended to give closed-form solutions for a generalization of the DLE, called the Stein equation. The proposed explicit solution's complexity is of the same order as iterative solutions and significantly smaller than known closed-form solutions. These solutions may prove convenient for analysis and synthesis problems related to these equations due to their compact form.

A Novel Method for Spectrum Sensing of Linear Modulation Schemes

In this paper, we propose and evaluate a novel algorithm for performing spectrum sensing on linear modulations based on second-order cyclic features of the received signals. The proposed approach has similar computational complexity to that of energy detection and outperforms energy detection and other sensing schemes such as Eigenvalue based sensing in the presence of noise uncertainties for a given value of the probability of false alarm.

Cloud Cognitive Radio HetNets with Limited Feedback

In this paper we propose a cloud based interweave cognitive radio HetNets which combines gain of cloud based radio that is increased rate for cell edge users and better spectral efficiency of cognitive radio. Simulation results for limited feedback shows approximately 100 % increase in rate for primary while 300 % for secondary cell edge users with same outage in cloud over conventional cognitive radio network.

Multilayer nanoparticle arrays for broad spectrum absorption enhancement in thin film solar cells

In this paper, we present a theoretical study on the absorption efficiency enhancement of a thin film amorphous Silicon (a-Si) photovoltaic cell over a broad spectrum of wavelengths using multiple nanoparticle arrays. The light absorption efficiency is enhanced in the lower wavelengths by a nanoparticle array on the surface and in the higher wavelengths by another nanoparticle array embedded in the active region. The efficiency at intermediate wavelengths is enhanced by the simultaneous resonance from both nanoparticle layers. We optimize this design by tuning the radius of particles in both arrays, the period of the array and the distance between the two arrays. The optimization results in a total quantum efficiency of 62.35% for a 300nm thick a-Si substrate.
