Computation of conformal invariants

We study numerical computation of conformal invariants of domains in the complex plane. In particular, we provide an algorithm for computing the conformal capacity of a condenser. The algorithm applies for wide kind of geometries: domains are assumed to have smooth or piecewise smooth boundaries. The method we use is based on the boundary integral equation method developed and implemented in [30]. A characteristic feature of this method is that, with small changes in the code, a wide spectrum of problems can be treated and we include code snippets within the text to indicate implementation details. We compare the performance and accuracy to previous results in the cases when numerical data is available and also in the case of several model problems where exact results are available.

Conformal Invariants in Simply Connected Domains

We study numerical computation of several conformal invariants of simply connected domains in the complex plane including, the hyperbolic distance, the reduced modulus, the harmonic measure, and the modulus of a quadrilateral. The method we use is based on the boundary integral equation with the generalized Neumann kernel. Several numerical examples are presented. We validate the performance and accuracy of our method by considering several model problems with known analytic solutions.

Numerical computation of Mityuk's function and radius for circular-radial slit domains

We consider Mityuk's function and radius which have been proposed in \cite{Mit} as generalizations of the reduced modulus and conformal radius to the cases of multiply connected domains. We present a numerical method to compute Mityuk's function and radius for canonical domains that consist of the unit disk with circular/radial slits. Our method is based on the boundary integral equation with the generalized Neumann kernel. Special attention is given to the validation of the theoretical results on the existence of critical points and the boundary behavior of Mityuk's radius.

The Motion of a Point Vortex in Multiply Connected Polygonal Domains

We study the motion of a single point vortex in simply and multiply connected polygonal domains. In case of multiply connected domains, the polygonal obstacles can be viewed as the cross-sections of 3D polygonal cylinders. First, we utilize conformal mappings to transfer the polygonal domains onto circular domains. Then, we employ the Schottky-Klein prime function to compute the Hamiltonian governing the point vortex motion in circular domains. We compare between the topological structures of the contour lines of the Hamiltonian in symmetric and asymmetric domains. Special attention is paid to the interaction of point vortex trajectories with the polygonal obstacles. In this context, we discuss the effect of symmetry breaking, and obstacle location and shape on the behavior of vortex motion.

Application of integral equations to simulate local fields in carbon nanotube reinforced composites

We consider the steady heat conduction problem within a thermal isotropic and homogeneous square ring composite reinforced by non-overlapping and randomly distributed carbon nanotubes (CNTs). We treat the CNTs as rigid line inclusions and assume their temperature distribution to be fixed to an undetermined constant value along each line. We suppose also that the temperature distribution is known on the outer boundary and that there is no heat flux through the inner square. The equations for the temperature distribution are governed by the two-dimensional Laplace equation with mixed Dirichlet- Neumann boundary conditions. This boundary value problem is solved using a boundary integral equation method. We demonstrate the performance of our approach through four numerical examples with small and large numbers of CNTs and different side length of the inner square.

A boundary integral method for the general conjugation problem in multiply connected circle domains

We present a boundary integral method for solving a certain class of Riemann-Hilbert problems known as the general conjugation problem. The method is based on a uniquely solvable boundary integral equation with the generalized Neumann kernel. We present also an alternative proof for the existence and uniqueness of the solution of the general conjugation problem.
