When Personalization Misleads: Understanding and Mitigating Hallucinations in Personalized LLMs

Personalized large language models (LLMs) adapt model behavior to individual users to enhance user satisfaction, yet personalization can inadvertently distort factual reasoning. We show that when personalized LLMs face factual queries, there exists a phenomenon where the model generates answers aligned with a user's prior history rather than the objective truth, resulting in personalization-induced hallucinations that degrade factual reliability and may propagate incorrect beliefs, due to representational entanglement between personalization and factual representations. To address this issue, we propose Factuality-Preserving Personalized Steering (FPPS), a lightweight inference-time approach that mitigates personalization-induced factual distortions while preserving personalized behavior. We further introduce PFQABench, the first benchmark designed to jointly evaluate factual and personalized question answering under personalization. Experiments across multiple LLM backbones and personalization methods show that FPPS substantially improves factual accuracy while maintaining personalized performance.

Broadband Tunable Phase Shifter For Microwaves

We implement a broadly tunable phase shifter for microwaves based on superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUIDs) and study it both experimentally and theoretically. At different frequencies, a unit transmission coefficient, $|S_{21}|=1$, can be theoretically achieved along a curve where the phase shift is controllable by magnetic flux. The fabricated device consists of three equidistant SQUIDs interrupting a transmission line. We model each SQUID embedded at different positions along the transmission line with two parameters, capacitance and inductance, the values of which we extract from the experiments. In our experiments, the tunability of the phase shift varies from from $0.07\timesπ$ to $0.14\timesπ$ radians along the full-transmission curve with the input frequency ranging from 6.00 to 6.28~GHz. The reported measurements are in good agreement with simulations, which is promising for future design work of phase shifters for different applications.

Robust time-varying formation design for multi-agent systems with disturbances: Extended-state-observer method

Robust time-varying formation design problems for second-order multi-agent systems subjected to external disturbances are investigated. Firstly, by constructing an extended state observer, the disturbance compensation is estimated, which is a critical term in the proposed robust time-varying formation control protocol. Then, an explicit expression of the formation center function is determined and impacts of disturbance compensations on the formation center function are presented. With the formation feasibility conditions, robust time-varying formation design criteria are derived to determine the gain matrix of the formation control protocol by utilizing the algebraic Riccati equation technique. Furthermore, the tracking performance and the robustness property of multi-agent systems are analyzed. Finally, the numerical simulation is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of theoretical results.

Low-mass dark matter search results from full exposure of PandaX-I experiment

We report the results of a weakly-interacting massive particle (WIMP) dark matter search using the full 80.1\;live-day exposure of the first stage of the PandaX experiment (PandaX-I) located in the China Jin-Ping Underground Laboratory. The PandaX-I detector has been optimized for detecting low-mass WIMPs, achieving a photon detection efficiency of 9.6\%. With a fiducial liquid xenon target mass of 54.0\,kg, no significant excess event were found above the expected background. A profile likelihood analysis confirms our earlier finding that the PandaX-I data disfavor all positive low-mass WIMP signals reported in the literature under standard assumptions. A stringent bound on the low mass WIMP is set at WIMP mass below 10\,GeV/c$^2$, demonstrating that liquid xenon detectors can be competitive for low-mass WIMP searches.

Isotope shifts of the (3s3p)$^3$P$_{0,1,2}$ - (3s4s)$^3$S$_1$ Mg I transitions

We report measurements of the isotope shifts of the (3s3p)$^3$P$_{0,1,2}$ - (3s4s)$^3$S$_1$ Mg I transitions for the stable isotopes $^{24}$Mg (I=0), $^{25}$Mg (I=5/2) and $^{26}$Mg (I=0). Furthermore the $^{25}$Mg $^3$S$_1$ hyperfine coefficient A($^3$S$_1$) = (-321.6 $\pm$ 1.5) MHz is extracted and found to be in excellent agreement with state-of-the-art theoretical predictions giving A($^3$S$_1$) = -325 MHz and B($^3$S$_1$) $\simeq 10^{-5}$ MHz. Compared to previous measurements, the data presented in this work is improved up to a factor of ten.
