Inverse Seesaw Mechanism in Nonsupersymmetric SO(10), Proton Lifetime, Nonunitarity Effects, and a Low-mass Z' Boson

Recently realization of TeV scale inverse seesaw mechanism in supersymmetric SO(10) framework has led to a number of experimentally verifiable predictions including low-mass W_R and Z' gauge bosons and nonunitarity effects. Using nonsupersymmetric SO(10) grand unified theory, we show how a TeV scale inverse seesaw mechanism for neutrino masses is implemented with a low-mass Z' boson accessible to Large Hadron Collider. We derive renormalization group equations for fermion masses and mixings in the presence of the intermediate symmetries of the model and extract the Dirac neutrino mass matrix at the TeV scale from successful GUT-scale parameterization of fermion masses. We estimate leptonic nonunitarity effects measurable at neutrino factories and lepton flavor violating decays expected to be probed in near future. While our prediction on the nonunitarity matrix element $η_{μτ}$ for degenerate right-handed neutrinos is similar to the supersymmetric SO(10) case, we find new predictions with significantly enhanced value of its phase $δ_{μτ}\simeq 10^{-4}-10^{-2}$ when partial degeneracy among these neutrino masses is adequately taken into account by a constraint relation that emerges naturally in this approach. Other predictions on branching ratios and CP-Violating parameters are discussed. An important distinguishing characteristic as another test of the minimal model is that the threshold corrected two-loop prediction of the proton lifetime with maximum value (τ_p)_{max}\simeq 10^{35} yrs. is accessible to ongoing search experiments for the decay $p\to e^+π^0$ in the near future. Simple model extensions with longer proton lifetime predictions are also discussed.

Flavor unification, dark matter, proton decay and other observable predictions with low-scale $S_4$ symmetry

We show how gauge coupling unification is successfully implemented through non-supersymmetric grand unified theory, $SO(10)\times G_f (~G_f=S_4, SO(3)_f, SU(3)_f)$, using low-scale flavor symmetric model of the type $SU(2)_L\times U(1)_Y$ $ \times SU(3)_C \times S_4$ recently proposed by Hagedorn, Lindner, and Mohapatra, while assigning matter-parity discrete symmetry for the dark matter stability. For gauge coupling unification in the single-step breaking case, we show that a color-octet fermion and a hyperchargeless weak-triplet fermionic dark matter are the missing particles needed to complete its MSSM-equivalent degrees of freedom. When these are included the model automatically predicts the nonsupersymmetric grand unification with a scale identical to the minimal supersymmetric standard model/grand unified theory scale. We also find a two-step breaking model with Pati-Salam intermediate symmetry where the dark matter and a low-mass color-octet scalar or the fermion are signaled by grand unification. The proton-lifetime predictions are found to be accessible to ongoing or planned searches in a number of models. We discuss grand unified origin of the light fermionic triplet dark matter, the color-octet fermion, and their phenomenology.

Radiative Seesaw in SO(10) with Dark Matter

High energy accelerators may probe into dark matter and the seesaw neutrino mass scales if they are not much heavier than ~O(TeV). In the absence of supersymmetry, we extend a class of SO(10) models to predict well known cold dark matter candidates while achieving precision unification with experimentally testable proton lifetime. The most important prediction is a new radiative seesaw formula of Ma type accessible to accelerator tests while the essential small value of its quartic coupling also emerges naturally. This dominates over the high-scale seesaw contributions making a major impact on neutrino physics and dark matter, opening up high prospects as a theory of fermion masses.

Type II Seesaw Dominance in Non-supersymmetric and Split Susy SO(10) and Proton Life Time

Recently type II seesaw dominance in a supersymmetric SO(10) framework has been found useful in explaining large solar and atmospheric mixing angles as well as larger values of $theta_{13}$ while unifying quark and lepton masses. An important question in these models is whether there exists consistency between coupling unification and type II seesaw dominance. Scenarios where this consistency can be demonstrated have been given in a SUSY framework. In this paper we give examples where type II dominance occurs in SO(10) models without supersymmetry but with additional TeV scale particles and also in models with split-supersummetry. Grand unification is realized in a two-step process via breaking of SO(10) to SU(5) and then to a TeV scale standard model supplemented by extra fields and an SU(5) Higgs multiplet ${15}_H$ at a scale about $10^{12}$ GeV to give type-II seesaw. The predictions for proton lifetime in these models are in the range $τ_p^0 = 2\times 10^{35}$ yrs. to $τ_p^0 = 6\times 10^{35}$ yrs.. A number of recent numerical fits to GUT-scale fermion masses can be accommodated within this model.

Inverse see-saw, leptogenesis, observable proton decay and $Δ^{\pm\pm}_{\rm R}$ in SUSY SO(10) with heavy W_R

We explore low-scale leptogenesis in a class of supersymmetric SO(10) models using extra singlet neutrinos and the Higgs representations {126}_H\oplus {\ovl{126}}_H as well as {16}_H \oplus {\bar {16}}_H. A singlet neutrino, which can be as light as 10^5-10^6 GeV, decays through its small mixings with right-handed neutrinos creating a lepton asymmetry which is shown to be flavor dependent. While the doublet vacuum expectation value in {\ovl{16}}_H triggers the generation of desired mixings, it also induces a large RH triplet vev that breaks the LR intermediate gauge symmetry and gives large RH neutrino masses. Manifest unification of gauge couplings and generation of heavy RH neutrino masses are achieved by renormalizable interactions. The canonical (Type-I) see-saw contributions to the light neutrino mass matrix cancel out while the Type-II see-saw contribution is negligible. Determining the parameters of the dominant inverse see-saw formula using the underlying quark-lepton symmetry and neutrino oscillation data, we show how leptogenesis under the gravitino constraint is successfully implemented. New formulas for the decay rate and the asymmetry parameter are derived leading to baryon asymmetry within the observed range. The model is found to work for hierarchical as well as inverted hierarchical light neutrino masses. Testable predictions of the model are RH doubly charged Higgs bosons which may be leptophilic and accessible to the Tevatron, LHC or a linear collider. In a model-independent manner, the Drell-Yan pair production cross section is shown to be bounded between 59%-79% of their left-handed counterparts with same mass. In contrast to single-step breaking SUSY GUTs, which predict a long proton lifetime for p\to e^+π^0, here this lifetime is substantially reduced, bringing it within one order of the current experimental limit.
