Stochastic Gradient Hamiltonian Monte Carlo for Non-Convex Learning

Stochastic Gradient Hamiltonian Monte Carlo (SGHMC) is a momentum version of stochastic gradient descent with properly injected Gaussian noise to find a global minimum. In this paper, non-asymptotic convergence analysis of SGHMC is given in the context of non-convex optimization, where subsampling techniques are used over an i.i.d dataset for gradient updates. Our results complement those of [RRT17] and improve on those of [GGZ18].

On optimal strategies for utility maximizers in the Arbitrage Pricing Model

We consider a popular model of microeconomics with countably many assets: the Arbitrage Pricing Model. We study the problem of optimal investment under an expected utility criterion and look for conditions ensuring the existence of optimal strategies. Previous results required a certain restrictive hypothesis on the tails of asset return distributions. Using a different method, we manage to remove this hypothesis, at the price of stronger assumptions on the moments of asset returns.

Maximization of Non-Concave Utility Functions in Discrete-Time Financial Market Models

This paper investigates the problem of maximizing expected terminal utility in a (generically incomplete) discrete-time financial market model with finite time horizon. In contrast to the standard setting, a possibly non-concave utility function $U$ is considered, with domain of definition $\mathbb{R}$. Simple conditions are presented which guarantee the existence of an optimal strategy for the problem. In particular, the asymptotic elasticity of $U$ plays a decisive role: existence can be shown when it is strictly greater at $-\infty$ than at $+\infty$.

Optimal investment with bounded above utilities in discrete time markets

We consider an arbitrage-free, discrete time and frictionless market. We prove that an investor maximising the expected utility of her terminal wealth can always find an optimal investment strategy provided that her dissatisfaction of infinite losses is infinite and her utility function is non-decreasing, continuous and bounded above. The same result is shown for cumulative prospect theory preferences, under additional assumptions.

Optimal Portfolio Choice for a Behavioural Investor in Continuous-Time Markets

The aim of this work consists in the study of the optimal investment strategy for a behavioural investor, whose preference towards risk is described by both a probability distortion and an S-shaped utility function. Within a continuous-time financial market framework and assuming that asset prices are modelled by semimartingales, we derive sufficient and necessary conditions for the well-posedness of the optimisation problem in the case of piecewise-power probability distortion and utility functions. Finally, under straightforwardly verifiable conditions, we further demonstrate the existence of an optimal strategy.
