Adiabatic potential energy curves of long-range Rydberg molecules: Two-electron R-matrix approach

We introduce a computational method developed for study of long-range molecular Rydberg states of such systems that can be approximated by two electrons in a model potential of the atomic cores. Only diatomic molecules are considered. The method is based on a two-electron \rmath approach inside a sphere centered on one of the atoms. The wave function is then connected to a Coulomb region outside the sphere via multichannel version of the Coulomb Green's function. This approach is put into a test by its application to a study of Rydberg states of the hydrogen molecule for internuclear distances $R$ from 20 to 400 bohrs and energies corresponding to $n$ from 3 to 22. The results are compared with previous quantum chemical calculations (lower quantum numbers $n$) and computations based on contact potential models (higher quantum numbers $n$).

Low-energy Electron collisions with O$_2$: Test of Molecular R-matrix without Diagonalization

Electron collisions with O$_2$ at scattering energies below 1 eV are studied in the fixed-nuclei approximation for a range of internuclear separations using the ab initio molecular R-matrix method. The $^2Π_g$ scattering eigenphases and quantum defects are calculated. The parameters of the resonance and the energy of the bound negative ion are then extracted. Different models of the target that employ molecular orbitals calculated for the neutral target are compared with models based on anionic orbitals. A model using a basis of anionic molecular orbitals yields physically correct results in good agreement with experiment. An alternative method of calculation of the R-matrix is tested, where instead of performing a single complete diagonalization of the Hamiltonian matrix in the inner region, the system of linear equations is solved individually for every scattering energy. This approach is designed to handle problems where diagonalization of an extremely large Hamiltonian is numerically too demanding.

Dissociative electron attachment and vibrational excitation of $\mathbf{CF_3Cl}$: Effect of two vibrational modes revisited

We present a study of dissociative electron attachment and vibrational excitation processes in electron collisions with the CF$_3$Cl molecule. The calculations are based on the two-dimensional nuclear dynamics including the C-Cl symmetric stretch coordinate and the CF$_3$ symmetric deformation (umbrella) coordinate. The complex potential energy surfaces are calculated using the ab initio R-matrix method. The results for dissociative attachment and vibrational excitation of the umbrella mode agree quite well with experiment while the cross section for excitation of the C-Cl symmetric stretch vibrations is about a factor of three low as compared to experimental data.

Femtosecond transparency in the extreme ultraviolet

Electromagnetically induced transparency-like behavior in the extreme ultraviolet (XUV) is studied theoretically, including the effect of intense 800 nm laser dressing of He 2s2p (1Po) and 2p^2 (1Se) autoionizing states. We present an ab initio solution of the time-dependent Schrodinger equation (TDSE) in an LS-coupling configuration interaction basis set. The method enables a rigorous treatment of optical field ionization of these coupled autoionizing states into the N = 2 continuum in addition to N = 1. Our calculated transient absorption spectra show encouraging agreement with experiment.
