$DK$ $I=0,$ $D\bar{K}$ $I=0,1$ scattering and the $D_{s0}^\ast(2317)$ from lattice QCD

Elastic scattering amplitudes for $I=0$ $DK$ and $I=0,1$ $D\bar{K}$ are computed in $S$, $P$ and $D$ partial waves using lattice QCD with light-quark masses corresponding to $m_π= 239$ MeV and $m_π= 391$ MeV. The $S$-waves contain interesting features including a near-threshold $J^P=0^+$ bound state in $I=0$ $DK$, corresponding to the $D_{s0}^\ast(2317)$, with an effect that is clearly visible above threshold, and suggestions of a $0^+$ virtual bound state in $I=0$ $D\bar{K}$. The $S$-wave $I=1$ $D\bar{K}$ amplitude is found to be weakly repulsive. The computed finite-volume spectra also contain a deeply-bound $D^\ast$ vector resonance, but negligibly small $P$-wave $DK$ interactions are observed in the energy region considered; the $P$ and $D$-wave $D\bar{K}$ amplitudes are also small. There is some evidence of $1^+$ and $2^+$ resonances in $I=0$ $DK$ at higher energies.

Adapted nested force-gradient integrators: the Schwinger model case

We study a novel class of numerical integrators, the adapted nested force-gradient schemes, used within the molecular dynamics step of the Hybrid Monte Carlo (HMC) algorithm. We test these methods in the Schwinger model on the lattice, a well known benchmark problem. We derive the analytical basis of nested force-gradient type methods and demonstrate the advantage of the proposed approach, namely reduced computational costs compared with other numerical integration schemes in HMC.

Coupled-Channel $Dπ$, $Dη$ and $D_{s}\bar{K}$ Scattering from Lattice QCD

We present the first lattice QCD study of coupled-channel $Dπ$, $Dη$ and $D_{s}\bar{K}$ scattering in isospin-1/2 in three partial waves. Using distillation, we compute matrices of correlation functions with bases of operators capable of resolving both meson and meson-meson contributions to the spectrum. These correlation matrices are analysed using a variational approach to extract the finite-volume energy eigenstates. Utilising Lüscher's method and its extensions, we constrain scattering amplitudes in $S$, $P$ and $D$-wave as a function of energy. By analytically continuing the scattering amplitudes to complex energies, we investigate the $S$-matrix singularities. Working at $m_π\approx 391$ MeV, we find a pole corresponding to a $J^{P} = 0^{+}$ near-threshold bound state with a large coupling to $Dπ$. We also find a deeply bound $J^{P} = 1^{-}$ state, and evidence for a $J^{P} = 2^{+}$ narrow resonance coupled predominantly to $Dπ$. Elastic $Dπ$ scattering in the isospin-$3/2$ channel is studied and we find a weakly repulsive interaction in $S$-wave.

Spectroscopy of doubly-charmed baryons from lattice QCD

We present the ground and excited state spectra of doubly charmed baryons from lattice QCD with dynamical quark fields. Calculations are performed on anisotropic lattices of size 16^3 X 128, with inverse spacing in temporal direction 1/a_t = 5.67(4) GeV and with a pion mass of about 390 MeV. A large set of baryonic operators that respect the symmetries of the lattice yet which retain a memory of their continuum analogues are used. These operators transform as irreducible representations of SU(3) symmetry for flavor, SU(4) symmetry for Dirac spins of quarks and O(3) for spatial symmetry. The distillation method is utilized to generate baryon correlation functions which are analysed using the variational fitting method to extract excited states. The lattice spectra obtained have baryonic states with well-defined total spins up to 7/2 and the pattern of low lying states does not support the diquark picture for doubly charmed baryons. On the contrary the calculated spectra are remarkably similar to the expectations from models with an SU(6)X O(3) symmetry. Various spin dependent energy splittings between the extracted states are also evaluated.

Excited-state spectroscopy of singly, doubly and triply-charmed baryons from lattice QCD

We present the ground and excited state spectra of singly, doubly and triply-charmed baryons by using dynamical lattice QCD. A large set of baryonic operators that respect the symmetries of the lattice and are obtained after subduction from their continuum analogues are utilized. These operators transform as irreducible representations of SU(3)$_F$ symmetry for flavour, SU(4) symmetry for Dirac spins of quarks and O(3) symmetry for orbital angular momenta. Using novel computational techniques correlation functions of these operators are generated and the variational method is exploited to extract excited states. The lattice spectra that we obtain have baryonic states with well-defined total spins up to 7/2 and the low lying states remarkably resemble the expectations of quantum numbers from SU(6)$\otimes$O(3) symmetry.

Spectroscopy of triply-charmed baryons from lattice QCD

The spectrum of excitations of triply-charmed baryons is computed using lattice QCD including dynamical light quark fields. Calculations are performed on anisotropic lattices with temporal and spatial spacings a_t = 0.0351(2) and a_s ~ 0.12 fm respectively and with pion mass of about 390 MeV. The spectrum obtained has baryonic states with well-defined total spin up to 7/2 and the low-lying states closely resemble the expectation from models with an SU(6)X O(3) symmetry. Energy splittings between extracted states, including those due to spin-orbit coupling in the heavy quark limit are computed and compared against data at other quark masses.

Excited $D$ and $D_{s}$ meson spectroscopy from lattice QCD

We present highly excited spectra of charm-light and charm-strange mesons from dynamical lattice QCD. Our calculations are performed on anisotropic $N_{f} = 2+1$ dynamical ensembles generated by the Hadron Spectrum Collaboration. The use of novel techniques and a large basis of interpolating operators have allowed us to extract these spectra to a high degree of statistical precision, extract states of high spin and observe candidate hybrid mesons. We interpret and discuss our results in light of the current experimental situation.

Excited spectroscopy of charmed mesons from lattice QCD

We present spectra of highly excited D and Ds mesons up to around 3.8 GeV determined using dynamical lattice QCD. We employ novel computational techniques and the variational method with a large basis of carefully constructed operators in order to extract and reliably identify the continuum spin of an extensive set of excited states. These include states with high spin and states identified as having an explicit gluonic contribution. Calculations were performed on two volumes, both with a pion mass of approximately 400 MeV, achieving a high statistical precision for both ground and excited states. We discuss our results in light of experimental observations, comment on the phenomenological implications and identify the lightest `supermultiplet' of hybrid mesons in each sector.

Excited spectroscopy of mesons containing charm quarks from lattice QCD

We present highly excited spectra of charmonium, charm-light and charm-strange mesons using the dynamical anisotropic lattices of the Hadron Spectrum Collaboration. The use of novel techniques has allowed us to extract these spectra with a high degree of statistical precision, while also enabling us to observe states as high as spin-4, states with exotic quantum numbers and candidate gluonic excitations. We discuss the phenomenology of these spectra, and also present preliminary results of Dπ scattering considering only the lowest partial wave in the isospin-3/2 channel.

Force-Gradient Nested Multirate Methods for Hamiltonian System

Force-gradient decomposition methods are used to improve the energy preservation of symplectic schemes applied to Hamiltonian systems. If the potential is composed of different parts with strongly varying dynamics, this multirate potential can be exploited by coupling force-gradient decomposition methods with splitting techniques for multi-time scale problems to further increase the accuracy of the scheme and reduce the computational costs. In this paper, we derive novel force-gradient nested methods and test them numerically. Such methods can be used to increase the acceptance rate for the molecular dynamics step of the Hybrid Monte Carlo algorithm (HMC) and hence improve its computational efficiency.

Spectroscopy of doubly and triply-charmed baryons from lattice QCD

We present the ground and excited state spectra of doubly and triply-charmed baryons by using lattice QCD with dynamical clover fermions. A large set of baryonic operators that respect the symmetries of the lattice and are obtained after subduction from their continuum analogues are utilized. Using novel computational techniques correlation functions of these operators are generated and the variational method is exploited to extract excited states. The lattice spectra that we obtain have baryonic states with well-defined total spins up to 7/2 and the low lying states remarkably resemble the expectations of quantum numbers from SU(6) $\otimes$ O(3) symmetry. Various energy splittings between the extracted states, including splittings due to hyperfine as well as spin-orbit coupling, are considered and those are also compared against similar energy splittings at other quark masses. Using those splittings for doubly-charmed baryons, and taking input of experimental $B_c$ meson mass, we predict the mass splittings of $B^*_c - B_c$ to be about 80 $\pm$ 8 MeV and $m_{Ω_{ccb}} = 8050\pm10$ MeV.

Excited and exotic charmonium spectroscopy from lattice QCD

We present a spectrum of highly excited charmonium mesons up to around 4.5 GeV calculated using dynamical lattice QCD. Employing novel computational techniques and the variational method with a large basis of carefully constructed operators, we extract and reliably identify the continuum spin of an extensive set of excited states, states with exotic quantum numbers (0+-, 1-+, 2+-) and states with high spin. Calculations are performed on two lattice volumes with pion mass approximately 400 MeV and the mass determinations have high statistical precision even for excited states. We discuss the results in light of experimental observations, identify the lightest 'supermultiplet' of hybrid mesons and comment on the phenomenological implications of the spectrum of exotic mesons.

A novel method for evaluating correlation functions in lattice hadron spectroscopy

We describe a new approach for evaluating hadronic correlation functions which combines Laplacian-Heaviside quark smearing with a stochastic estimator of quark propagators. This method utilizes noise dilution in a new way to reduce the variance in correlators. The efficacy of the new algorithm is demonstrated on a number of systems, including disconnected diagrams and multi-hadron correlators, on a small lattice where comparisons with the results obtained with exactly determined quark propagators are possible. On larger lattice volumes, the use of exact propagators becomes prohibitively expensive, while the stochastic method is still computationally feasible.
