Thermodynamics of 2+1 dimensional Coulomb-Like Black Holes from Non Linear Electrodynamics with a traceless energy momentum tensor

In this work we study thermodynamics of 2+1-dimensional static black holes with a nonlinear electric field. Besides employing the standard thermodynamic approach, we investigate the black hole thermodynamics by studying its thermodynamic geometry. We compute the Weinhold and Ruppeiner metrics and compare the thermodynamic geometry with the standard description on the black hole thermodynamics. We further consider the cosmological constant as an additional extensive thermodynamic variable. In the thermodynamic equilibrium three dimensional space, we compute the efficiency of the heat engine and show that it is possible to be built with this black hole.

Bayesian Comparison of Interacting Modified Holographic Ricci Dark Energy Scenarios

We perform a Bayesian model selection analysis for interacting scenarios of dark matter and modified holographic Ricci dark energy (MHRDE) with linear interacting terms. We use a combination of some of the latest cosmological data such as type Ia supernovae, cosmic chronometers, cosmic microwave background and baryon acoustic oscillations measurements. We find strong evidence against all the MHRDE interacting scenarios studied with respect to $Λ$CDM when the full joint analysis is considered.

Cosmic anisotropic doomsday in Bianchi type I universes

In order to investigate if the anisotropy of the spacetime may induce future singularities at a finite value of the cosmic time on the evolution of cosmological models, we study vacuum and non-vacuum Bianchi type I spacetimes exhibiting such future singularities. We show that in the case of Kasner vacuum cosmologies the spacetime may rip itself apart in a finite time, and only in the direction corresponding to the unique scale factor which diverges at this finite value of the cosmic time. The other two directional scale factors and the average scale factor do not diverge and tend to zero at this time, while the directional and average expansion rates also become infinite. Due to the absence of the matter content this anisotropic future singularity is induced by the shear scalar, which also blows up at this time. We call such a singularity "Vacuum Rip". For non-vacuum solutions we discuss fully anisotropic Bianchi type I spacetimes filled with a stiff fluid and ellipsoidal (axisymmetric) cosmological models filled with matter with isotropic and anisotropic barotropic pressure, and characterized by $σ/θ=const$, where $σ$ and $θ$ are the shear scalar and the expansion scalar respectively.

Static spherically symmetric wormholes with isotropic pressure

In this paper we study static spherically symmetric wormhole solutions sustained by matter sources with isotropic pressure. We show that such spherical wormholes do not exist in the framework of zero-tidal-force wormholes. On the other hand, it is shown that for the often used power-law shape function there is no spherically symmetric traversable wormholes sustained by sources with a linear equation of state $p=ωρ$ for the isotropic pressure, independently of the form of the redshift function $ϕ(r)$. We consider a solution obtained by Tolman at 1939 for describing static spheres of isotropic fluids, and show that it also may describe wormhole spacetimes with a power-law redshift function, which leads to a polynomial shape function, generalizing a power-law shape function, and inducing a solid angle deficit.

Morris-Thorne wormholes in static pseudo-spherically symmetric spacetimes

In this paper we study classical general relativistic static wormhole configurations with pseudo-spherical symmetry. We show that in addition to the hyperbolic wormhole solutions discussed by Lobo and Mimoso in the Ref. Phys.\ Rev.\ D {\bf 82}, 044034 (2010), there exists another wormhole class, which is truly pseudo-spherical counterpart of spherical Morris-Thorne wormhole (contrary to the Lobo-Mimoso wormhole class), since all constraints originally defined by Morris and Thorne for spherically symmetric wormholes are satisfied. We show that, for both classes of hyperbolic wormholes the energy density, at the throat, is always negative, while the radial pressure is positive, contrary to the spherically symmetric Morris-Thorne wormhole. Specific hyperbolic wormholes are constructed and discussed by imposing different conditions for the radial and lateral pressures, or by considering restricted choices for the redshift and the shape functions. In particular, we show that an hyperbolic wormhole can not be sustained at the throat by phantom energy, and that there are pseudo-spherically symmetric wormholes supported by matter with isotropic pressure and characterized by space sections with an angle deficit (or excess).

Accelerated FRW Solutions in Chern-Simons Gravity

We consider a five-dimensional Einstein-Chern-Simons action which is composed of a gravitational sector and a sector of matter, where the gravitational sector is given by a Chern-Simons gravity action instead of the Einstein-Hilbert action and where the matter sector is given by the so called perfect fluid. It is shown that (i) the Einstein-Chern-Simons (EChS) field equations subject to suitable conditions can be written in a similar way to the Einstein-Maxwell field equations; (ii) these equations have solutions that describe accelerated expansion for the three possible cosmological models of the universe, namely, spherical expansion, flat expansion and hyperbolic expansion when $α$, a parameter of theory, is greater than zero. This result allow us to conjeture that this solutions are compatible with the era of Dark Energy and that the energy-momentum tensor for the field $h^{a}$, a bosonic gauge field from the Chern-Simons gravity action, corresponds to a form of positive cosmological constant. It is also shown that the EChS field equations have solutions compatible with the era of matter: (i) In the case of an open universe, the solutions correspond to an accelerated expansion ($α>0$) with a minimum scale factor at initial time that, when the time goes to infinity, the scale factor behaves as a hyperbolic sine function. (ii) In the case of a flat universe, the solutions describing an accelerated expansion whose scale factor behaves as a exponencial function when time grows. \item In the case of a closed universe it is found only one solution for a universe in expansion, which behaves as a hyperbolic cosine function when time grows.

Radiation in (2+1)-dimensions

In this paper we discuss the radiation equation of state $p=ρ/2$ in (2+1)-dimensions. In (3+1)-dimensions the equation of state $p=ρ/3$ may be used to describe either actual electromagnetic radiation (photons) as well as a gas of massless particles in a thermodynamic equilibrium (for example neutrinos). In this work it is shown that in the framework of (2+1)-dimensional Maxwell electrodynamics the radiation law $p=ρ/2$ takes place only for plane waves, i.e. for $E = B$. Instead of the linear Maxwell electrodynamics, to derive the (2+1)-radiation law for more general cases with $E \neq B$, one has to use a conformally invariant electrodynamics, which is a 2+1-nonlinear electrodynamics with a trace free energy-momentum tensor, and to perform a volumetric spatial average of the corresponding Maxwell stress-energy tensor with its electric and magnetic components at a given instant of time $t$.

(N+1)-dimensional Lorentzian evolving wormholes supported by polytropic matter

In this paper we study $(N+1)$-dimensional evolving wormholes supported by energy satisfying a polytropic equation of state. The considered evolving wormhole models are described by a constant redshift function and generalizes the standard flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker spacetime. The polytropic equation of state allows us to consider in $(3+1)$-dimensions generalizations of the phantom energy and the generalized Chaplygin gas sources.

Canonical and phantom scalar fields as an interaction of two perfect fluids

In this article we investigate and develop specific aspects of Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) scalar field cosmologies related to the interpretation that canonical and phantom scalar field sources may be interpreted as cosmological configurations with a mixture of two interacting barotropic perfect fluids: a matter component $ρ_1(t)$ with a stiff equation of state ($p_1=ρ_1$), and an "effective vacuum energy" $ρ_2(t)$ with a cosmological constant equation of state ($p_2=-ρ_2$). An important characteristic of this alternative equivalent formulation in the framework of interacting cosmologies is that it gives, by choosing a suitable form of the interacting term $Q$, an approach for obtaining exact and numerical solutions. The choice of $Q$ merely determines a specific scalar field with its potential, thus allowing to generate closed, open and flat FRW scalar field cosmologies.

Friedmann-Robertson-Walker like cosmologies with spherical symmetry

We reconsider the cosmological model discussed by Sung-Won Kim [Phys. Rev D 53, 6889 (1996)] in the context of Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmologies with a traversable wormhole, where it is assumed that the matter content is divided into two parts: the cosmic part that depends on time only and the wormhole part that depends on space only. The cosmic part obeys the barotropic equation of state $p_c=γρ_c$. The complete analysis requires further care and reveals more interesting results than what was previously shown by the author. They can be readily applied to the evolution of a large class of cosmological models which are more general than FRW models.

Phantom evolving wormholes with big rip singularities

We investigate a family of inhomogeneous and anisotropic gravitational fields exhibiting a future singularity at a finite value of the proper time. The studied spherically symmetric spacetimes are asymptotically Friedmann-Robertson-Walker at spatial infinity and describe wormhole configurations filled with two matter components: one inhomogeneous and anisotropic fluid and another isotropic and homogeneously distributed fluid, characterized by the supernegative equation of state ω=p/ρ< -1. In previously constructed wormholes, the notion of the phantom energy was used in a more extended sense than in cosmology, where the phantom energy is considered a homogeneously distributed fluid. Specifically, for some static wormhole geometries the phantom matter was considered as an inhomogeneous and anisotropic fluid, with radial and lateral pressures satisfying the relations $p_{r}/ρ<-1$ and $p_{_l} \neq p_r$, respectively. In this paper we construct phantom evolving wormhole models filled with an isotropic and homogeneous component, described by a barotropic or viscous phantom energy, and ending in a big rip singularity. In two of considered cases the equation of state parameter is constrained to be less than -1, while in the third model the finite-time future singularity may occur for $ω<-1$, as well as for $-1 < ω\leq 1$.

Two-fluid evolving Lorentzian wormholes

We investigate the evolution of a family of wormholes sustained by two matter components: one with homogeneous and isotropic properties $ρ(t)$ and another inhomogeneous and anisotropic $ρ_{in}(t,r)$. The rate of expansion of these evolving wormholes is only determined by the isotropic and homogeneous matter component $ρ(t)$. Particularly, we consider a family of exact two-fluid evolving wormholes expanding with constant velocity and satisfying the dominant and the strong energy conditions in the whole spacetime. In general, for the case of vanishing isotropic fluid $ρ(t)$ and cosmological constant $Λ$ the space expands with constant velocity, and for $ρ(t)=0$ and $Λ\neq 0$ the rate of expansion is determined by the cosmological constant. The considered here two-fluid evolving wormholes are a generalization of single fluid models discussed in previous works of the present authors [Phys.\ Rev.\ D {\bf 78}, 104006 (2008); Phys.\ Rev.\ D {\bf 79}, 024005 (2009)].

Crossing the phantom divide with a classical Dirac field

In this paper we consider a spatially flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) cosmological model with cosmological constant, containing a stiff fluid and a classical Dirac field. The proposed cosmological scenario describes the evolution of effective dark matter and dark energy components reproducing, with the help of that effective multifluid configuration, the quintessential behavior. We find the value of the scale factor where the effective dark energy component crosses the phantom divide. The model we introduce, which can be considered as a modified $Λ$CDM one, is characterized by a set of parameters which may be constrained by the astrophysical observations available up to date.

Interacting Kasner-type cosmologies

It is well known that Kasner-type cosmologies provide a useful framework for analyzing the three-dimensional anisotropic expansion because of the simplification of the anisotropic dynamics. In this paper relativistic multi-fluid Kasner-type scenarios are studied. We first consider the general case of a superposition of two ideal cosmic fluids, as well as the particular cases of non-interacting and interacting ones, by introducing a phenomenological coupling function $q(t)$. For two-fluid cosmological scenarios there exist only cosmological scaling solutions, while for three-fluid configurations there exist not only cosmological scaling ones, but also more general solutions. In the case of triply interacting cosmic fluids we can have energy transfer from two fluids to a third one, or energy transfer from one cosmic fluid to the other two. It is shown that by requiring the positivity of energy densities there always is a matter component which violates the dominant energy condition in this kind of anisotropic cosmological scenarios.

N-dimensional static and evolving Lorentzian wormholes with cosmological constant

We present a family of static and evolving spherically symmetric Lorentzian wormhole solutions in N+1 dimensional Einstein gravity. In general, for static wormholes, we require that at least the radial pressure has a barotropic equation of state of the form $p_r=ω_r ρ$, where the state parameter $ω_r$ is constant. On the other hand, it is shown that in any dimension $N \geq 3$, with $ϕ(r)=Λ=0$ and anisotropic barotropic pressure with constant state parameters, static wormhole configurations are always asymptotically flat spacetimes, while in 2+1 gravity there are not only asymptotically flat static wormholes and also more general ones. In this case, the matter sustaining the three-dimensional wormhole may be only a pressureless fluid. In the case of evolving wormholes with $N \geq 3$, the presence of a cosmological constant leads to an expansion or contraction of the wormhole configurations: for positive cosmological constant we have wormholes which expand forever and, for negative cosmological constant we have wormholes which expand to a maximum value and then recollapse. In the absence of a cosmological constant the wormhole expands with constant velocity, i.e without acceleration or deceleration. In 2+1 dimensions the expanding wormholes always have an isotropic and homogeneous pressure, depending only on the time coordinate.

On a class of scaling FRW cosmological models

We study Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmological models with matter content composed of two perfect fluids $ρ_1$ and $ρ_2$, with barotropic pressure densities $p_1/ ρ_1=ω_1=const$ and $p_2/ ρ_2=ω_2=const$, where one of the energy densities is given by $ρ_1=C_1 a^α+ C_2 a^β$, with $C_1$, $C_2$, $α$ and $β$ taking constant values. We solve the field equations by using the conservation equation without breaking it into two interacting parts with the help of a coupling interacting term $Q$. Nevertheless, with the found solution may be associated an interacting term $Q$, and then a number of cosmological interacting models studied in the literature correspond to particular cases of our cosmological model. Specifically those models having constant coupling parameters $\tildeα$, $\tildeβ$ and interacting terms given by $Q=\tildeα H ρ_{_{DM}}$, $Q=\tildeα H ρ_{_{DE}}$, $Q=\tildeα H (ρ_{_{DM}}+ ρ_{_{DE}})$ and $Q=\tildeα H ρ_{_{DM}}+\tildeβ H ρ_{_{DE}}$, where $ρ_{_{DM}}$ and $ρ_{_{DE}}$ are the energy densities of dark matter and dark energy respectively. The studied set of solutions contains a class of cosmological models presenting a scaling behavior at early and at late times. On the other hand the two-fluid cosmological models considered in this paper also permit a three fluid interpretation which is also discussed. In this reinterpretation, for flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmologies, the requirement of positivity of energy densities of the dark matter and dark energy components allows the state parameter of dark energy to be in the range $-1.37 \lesssim ω_{_{DE}}<-1/3$.

Relic gravitons and viscous cosmologies

Previously it was shown that there exists a class of viscous cosmological models which violate the dominant energy condition for a limited amount of time after which they are smoothly connected to the ordinary radiation era (which preserves the dominant energy conditions). This violation of the dominant energy condition at an early cosmological epoch may influence the slopes of energy spectra of relic gravitons that might be of experimental relevance. However, the bulk viscosity coefficient of these cosmologies became negative during the ordinary radiation era, and then the entropy of the sources driving the geometry decreases with time. We show that in the presence of viscous sources with a linear barotropic equation of state $p=γρ$ we get viscous cosmological models with positive bulk viscous stress during all their evolution, and hence the matter entropy increases with the expansion time. In other words, in the framework of viscous cosmologies, there exist isotropic models compatible with the standard second law of thermodynamics which also may influence the slopes of energy spectra of relic gravitons.
