Mapping current and activity fluctuations in exclusion processes: consequences and open questions

Considering the large deviations of activity and current in the Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process (ASEP), we show that there exists a non-trivial correspondence between the joint scaled cumulant generating functions of activity and current of two ASEPs with different parameters. This mapping is obtained by applying a similarity transform on the deformed Markov matrix of the source model in order to obtain the deformed Markov matrix of the target model. We first derive this correspondence for periodic boundary conditions, and show in the diffusive scaling limit (corresponding to the Weakly Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Processes, or WASEP) how the mapping is expressed in the language of Macroscopic Fluctuation Theory (MFT). As an interesting specific case, we map the large deviations of current in the ASEP to the large deviations of activity in the SSEP, thereby uncovering a regime of Kardar-Parisi-Zhang in the distribution of activity in the SSEP. At large activity, particle configurations exhibit hyperuniformity [Jack et al., PRL 114 060601 (2015)]. Using results from quantum spin chain theory, we characterize the hyperuniform regime by evaluating the small wavenumber asymptotic behavior of the structure factor at half-filling. Conversely, we formulate from the MFT results a conjecture for a correlation function in spin chains at any fixed total magnetization (in the thermodynamic limit). In addition, we generalize the mapping to the case of two open ASEPs with boundary reservoirs, and we apply it in the WASEP limit in the MFT formalism. This mapping also allows us to find a symmetry-breaking dynamical phase transition (DPT) in the WASEP conditioned by activity, from the prior knowledge of a DPT in the WASEP conditioned by the current.

Matrix product state of multi-time correlations

For an interacting spatio-temporal lattice system we introduce a formal way of expressing multi-time correlation functions of local observables located at the same spatial point with a time state, i.e. a statistical distribution of configurations observed along a time lattice. Such a time state is defined with respect to a particular equilibrium state that is invariant under space and time translations. The concept is developed within the Rule 54 reversible cellular automaton, for which we explicitly construct a matrix product form of the time state, with matrices that act on the 3-dimensional auxiliary space. We use the matrix-product state to express equal-space time-dependent density-density correlation function, which, for special maximum-entropy values of equilibrium parameters, agrees with the previous results. Additionally, we obtain an explicit expression for the probabilities of observing all multi-time configurations, which enables us to study distributions of times between consecutive excitations and prove the absence of decoupling of timescales in the Rule 54 model.

Time-dependent matrix product ansatz for interacting reversible dynamics

We present an explicit time-dependent matrix product ansatz (tMPA) which describes the time-evolution of any local observable in an interacting and deterministic lattice gas, specifically for the rule 54 reversible cellular automaton of [Bobenko et al., Commun. Math. Phys. 158, 127 (1993)]. Our construction is based on an explicit solution of real-space real-time inverse scattering problem. We consider two applications of this tMPA. Firstly, we provide the first exact and explicit computation of the dynamic structure factor in an interacting deterministic model, and secondly, we solve the extremal case of the inhomogeneous quench problem, where a semi-infinite lattice in the maximum entropy state is joined with an empty semi-infinite lattice. Both of these exact results rigorously demonstrate a coexistence of ballistic and diffusive transport behaviour in the model, as expected for normal fluids.

Global bifurcation diagram of steady states of systems of PDEs via rigorous numerics: a 3-component reaction-diffusion system

In this paper, we use rigorous numerics to compute several global smooth branches of steady states for a system of three reaction-diffusion PDEs introduced by Iida et al. [J. Math. Biol., {\bf 53}, 617--641 (2006)] to study the effect of cross-diffusion in competitive interactions. An explicit and mathematically rigorous construction of a global bifurcation diagram is done, except in small neighborhoods of the bifurcations. The proposed method, even though influenced by the work of van den Berg et al. [Math. Comp., {\bf 79}, 1565--1584 (2010)], introduces new analytic estimates, a new {\em gluing-free} approach for the construction of global smooth branches and provides a detailed analysis of the choice of the parameters to be made in order to maximize the chances of performing successfully the computational proofs.
