Self-dual codes over $\mathbb{F}_5$ and $s$-extremal unimodular lattices

New $s$-extremal extremal unimodular lattices in dimensions $38$, $40$, $42$ and $44$ are constructed from self-dual codes over $\mathbb{F}_5$ by Construction A. In the process of constructing these codes, we obtain a self-dual $[44,22,14]$ code over $\mathbb{F}_5$. In addition, the code implies a $[43,22,13]$ code over $\mathbb{F}_5$. These codes have larger minimum weights than the previously known $[44,22]$ codes and $[43,22]$ codes, respectively.

Characterization and classification of optimal LCD codes

Linear complementary dual (LCD) codes are linear codes that intersect with their dual trivially. We give a characterization of LCD codes over $\mathbb{F}_q$ having large minimum weights for $q \in \{2,3\}$. Using the characterization, we determine the largest minimum weights among LCD $[n,k]$ codes over $\mathbb{F}_q$ for $(q,k) \in \{(2,4), (3,2),(3,3)\}$. Moreover, we give a complete classification of optimal LCD $[n,k]$ codes over $\mathbb{F}_q$ for $(q,k) \in \{(2,3), (2,4), (3,2),(3,3)\}$.

New self-dual additive $\mathbb{F}_4$-codes constructed from circulant graphs

In order to construct quantum $[[n,0,d]]$ codes for $(n,d)=(56,15)$, $(57,15)$, $(58,16)$, $(63,16)$, $(67,17)$, $(70,18)$, $(71,18)$, $(79,19)$, $(83,20)$, $(87,20)$, $(89,21)$, $(95,20)$, we construct self-dual additive $\mathbb{F}_4$-codes of length $n$ and minimum weight $d$ from circulant graphs. The quantum codes with these parameters are constructed for the first time.

On binary codes related to mutually quasi-unbiased weighing matrices

Some mutually quasi-unbiased weighing matrices are constructed from binary codes satisfying certain conditions. Motivated by this, in this note, we study binary codes satisfying the conditions. The weight distributions of binary codes satisfying the conditions are determined. We also give a classification of binary codes of lengths $8,16$ and binary maximal codes of length $32$ satisfying the conditions. As an application, sets of $8$ mutually quasi-unbiased weighing matrices for parameters $(16,16,4,64)$ and $4$ mutually quasi-unbiased weighing matrices for parameters $(32,32,4,256)$ are constructed for the first time.

On the performance of optimal double circulant even codes

In this note, we investigate the performance of optimal double circulant even codes which are not self-dual, as measured by the decoding error probability in bounded distance decoding. To do this, we classify the optimal double circulant even codes that are not self-dual which have the smallest weight distribution for lengths up to $72$. We also give some restrictions on the weight enumerators of (extremal) self-dual $[54,27,10]$ codes with shadows of minimum weight $3$. Finally, we consider the performance of extremal self-dual codes of lengths $88$ and $112$.

Performance of ternary double circulant, double twistulant, and self-dual codes

We study the performance of ternary isodual codes which are not self-dual and ternary self-dual codes, as measured by the decoding error probability in bounded distance decoding. We compare the performance of ternary double circulant and double twistulant codes which are not self-dual with ternary extremal self-dual codes. We also investigate the performance of ternary self-dual codes having large minimum weights.

Extremal Type I $\mathbb{Z}_k$-codes and $k$-frames of odd unimodular lattices

For some extremal (optimal) odd unimodular lattice $L$ in dimensions $12,16,20,28,32,36,40$ and $44$, we determine all integers $k$ such that $L$ contains a $k$-frame. This result yields the existence of an extremal Type I $\mathbb{Z}_{k}$-code of lengths $12,16,20,32,36,40$ and $44$, and a near-extremal Type I $\mathbb{Z}_k$-code of length $28$ for positive integers $k$ with only a few exceptions.

Note on the residue codes of self-dual $\mathbb{Z}_4$-codes having large minimum Lee weights

It is shown that the residue code of a self-dual $\mathbb{Z}_4$-code of length $24k$ (resp.\ $24k+8$) and minimum Lee weight $8k+4 \text{ or }8k+2$ (resp.\ $8k+8 \text{ or }8k+6$) is a binary extremal doubly even self-dual code for every positive integer $k$. A number of new self-dual $\mathbb{Z}_4$-codes of length $24$ and minimum Lee weight $10$ are constructed using the above characterization. These codes are Type I $\mathbb{Z}_4$-codes having the largest minimum Lee weight and the largest Euclidean weight among all Type I $\mathbb{Z}_4$-codes of that length. In addition, new extremal Type II $\mathbb{Z}_4$-codes of length $56$ are found.

Quasi-unbiased Hadamard matrices and weakly unbiased Hadamard matrices: a coding-theoretic approach

This paper is concerned with quasi-unbiased Hadamard matrices and weakly unbiased Hadamard matrices, which are generalizations of unbiased Hadamard matrices, equivalently unbiased bases. These matrices are studied from the viewpoint of coding theory. As a consequence of a coding-theoretic approach, we provide upper bounds on the number of mutually quasi-unbiased Hadamard matrices. We give classifications of a certain class of self-complementary codes for modest lengths. These codes give quasi-unbiased Hadamard matrices and weakly unbiased Hadamard matrices. Some modification of the notion of weakly unbiased Hadamard matrices is also provided.

On a 5-design related to a putative extremal doubly even self-dual code of length a multiple of 24

By the Assmus and Mattson theorem, the codewords of each nontrivial weight in an extremal doubly even self-dual code of length 24m form a self-orthogonal 5-design. In this paper, we study the codes constructed from self-orthogonal 5-designs with the same parameters as the above 5-designs. We give some parameters of a self-orthogonal 5-design whose existence is equivalent to that of an extremal doubly even self-dual code of length 24m for m=3,...,6. If $m \in \{1,\ldots,6\}$, $k \in \{m+1,\ldots,5m-1\}$ and $(m,k) \ne (6,18)$, then it is shown that an extremal doubly even self-dual code of length 24m is generated by codewords of weight 4k.

On the Existence of Frames of Some Extremal Odd Unimodular Lattices and Self-Dual Zk-Codes

For some extremal (optimal) odd unimodular lattices L in dimensions n=12,16,20,32,36,40 and 44, we determine all positive integers k such that L contains a k-frame. This result yields the existence of an extremal Type I Zk-code of lengths 12,16,20,32,36,40 and 44 and a near-extremal Type I Zk-code of length 28 for positive integers k with only a few exceptions.

Some Extremal Self-Dual Codes and Unimodular Lattices in Dimension 40

In this paper, binary extremal singly even self-dual codes of length 40 and extremal odd unimodular lattices in dimension 40 are studied. We give a classification of extremal singly even self-dual codes of length 40. We also give a classification of extremal odd unimodular lattices in dimension 40 with shadows having 80 vectors of norm 2 through their relationships with extremal doubly even self-dual codes of length 40.

On the classification of weighing matrices and self-orthogonal codes

We provide a classification method of weighing matrices based on a classification of self-orthogonal codes. Using this method, we classify weighing matrices of orders up to 15 and order 17, by revising some known classification. In addition, we give a revised classification of weighing matrices of weight 5. A revised classification of ternary maximal self-orthogonal codes of lengths 18 and 19 is also presented.

On the Residue Codes of Extremal Type II Z4-Codes of Lengths 32 and 40

In this paper, we determine the dimensions of the residue codes of extremal Type II Z4-codes for lengths 32 and 40. We demonstrate that every binary doubly even self-dual code of length 32 can be realized as the residue code of some extremal Type II Z4-code. It is also shown that there is a unique extremal Type II Z4-code of length 32 whose residue code has the smallest dimension 6 up to equivalence. As a consequence, many new extremal Type II Z4-codes of lengths 32 and 40 are constructed.

Residue codes of extremal Type II Z_4-codes and the moonshine vertex operator algebra

In this paper, we study the residue codes of extremal Type II Z_4-codes of length 24 and their relations to the famous moonshine vertex operator algebra. The main result is a complete classification of all residue codes of extremal Type II Z_4-codes of length 24. Some corresponding results associated to the moonshine vertex operator algebra are also discussed.

Classification of generalized Hadamard matrices H(6,3) and quaternary Hermitian self-dual codes of length 18

All generalized Hadamard matrices of order 18 over a group of order 3, H(6,3), are enumerated in two different ways: once, as class regular symmetric (6,3)-nets, or symmetric transversal designs on 54 points and 54 blocks with a group of order 3 acting semi-regularly on points and blocks, and secondly, as collections of full weight vectors in quaternary Hermitian self-dual codes of length 18. The second enumeration is based on the classification of Hermitian self-dual [18,9] codes over GF(4), completed in this paper. It is shown that up to monomial equivalence, there are 85 generalized Hadamard matrices H(6,3), and 245 inequivalent Hermitian self-dual codes of length 18 over GF(4).
