$\mathcal I^{\mathcal K}$-Cauchy functions

In this paper we introduce the notion of $\mathcal I^{\mathcal K}$-Cauchy function, where $\mathcal I$ and $\mathcal K$ are ideals on the same set. The $\mathcal I^{\mathcal K}$-Cauchy functions are a generalization of $\mathcal I^*$-Cauchy sequences and $\mathcal I^*$-Cauchy nets. We show how this notion can be used to characterize complete uniform spaces and we study how $\mathcal I^{\mathcal K}$-Cauchy functions and $\mathcal I$-Cauchy functions are related. We also define and study $\mathcal I^{\mathcal K}$-divergence of functions.

Extreme points of the set of density measures

We study finitely additive measures on the set $\mathbb N$ which extend the asymptotic density (density measures). We show that there is a one-to-one correspondence between density measures and positive functionals in $\ell_\infty^*$, which extend Cesàro mean. Then we study maximal possible value attained by a density measure for a given set $A$ and the corresponding question for the positive functionals extending Cesàro mean. Using the obtained results, we can find a set of functionals such that their closed convex hull in $\ell_\infty^*$ with weak${}^*$ topology is precisely the set of all positive functionals extending Cesàro mean. Since we have a one-to-one correspondence between such functionals and density measures, this also gives a set of density measures, from which all density measures can be obtained as the closed convex hull.

Range of density measures

We investigate some properties of density measures -- finitely additive measures on the set of natural numbers $\N$ extending asymptotic density. We introduce a class of density measures, which is defined using cluster points of the sequence $\big(\frac{A(n)}{n}\big)$ as well as cluster points of some other similar sequences. We obtain range of possible values of density measures for any subset of $\N$. Our description of this range simplifies the description of Bhashkara Rao and Bhashkara Rao \cite{brbr} for general finitely additive measures. Also the values which can be attained by the measures defined in the first part of the paper are studied.

Gaps and the exponent of convergence of an integer sequence

Professor Tibor Šalát, at one of his seminars at Comenius University, Bratislava, asked to study the influence of gaps of an integer sequence A={a_1<a_2<...<a_n<...} on its exponent of convergence. The exponent of convergence of A coincides with its upper exponential density. In this paper we consider an extension of Professor Šalát's question and we study the influence of the sequence of ratios a_m/a_{m+1} and of the sequence (a_{m+1}-a_m)/a_m on the upper and on the lower exponential densities of A.

Hereditary, additive and divisible classes in epireflective subcategories of Top

Hereditary coreflective subcategories of an epireflective subcategory A of Top such that I_2\notin A (here I_2 is the 2-point indiscrete space) were studied in [C]. It was shown that a coreflective subcategory B of A is hereditary (closed under the formation of subspaces) if and only if it is closed under the formation of prime factors. The main problem studied in this paper is the question whether this claim remains true if we study the (more general) subcategories of A which are closed under topological sums and quotients in A instead of the coreflective subcategories of A. We show that this is true if A \subseteq Haus or under some reasonable conditions on B. E.g., this holds if B contains either a prime space, or a space which is not locally connected, or a totally disconnected space or a non-discrete Hausdorff space. We touch also other questions related to such subclasses of A. We introduce a method extending the results from the case of non-bireflective subcategories (which was studied in [C]) to arbitrary epireflective subcategories of Top. We also prove some new facts about the lattice of coreflective subcategories of Top and ZD. [C] J. Činčura: Heredity and coreflective subcategories of the category of topological spaces. Appl. Categ. On hereditary coreflective subcategories of Top

Let A be a topological space which is not finitely generated and CH(A) denote the coreflective hull of A in Top. We construct a generator of the coreflective subcategory SCH(A) consisting of all subspaces of spaces from CH(A) which is a prime space and has the same cardinality as A. We also show that if A and B are coreflective subcategories of Top such that the hereditary coreflective kernel of each of them is the subcategory FG of all finitely generated spaces, then the hereditary coreflective kernel of their join CH(A \cup B) is again FG.

Subspaces of pseudoradial spaces

We prove that every topological space (T0-space, T1-space) can be embedded in a pseudoradial space (in a pseudoradial T0-space, T1space). This answers the Problem 3 in [Arhangelskii, A.V. - Isler, R. - Tironi, G: On pseudo-radial spaces, Comment. Math. Univ. Carolin. 27 (1986), 137-156]. We describe the smallest coreflective subcategory A of Top such that the hereditary coreflective hull of A is the whole category Top. (The same result without any separation axiom was proved already in the master thesis E. Murtinová: Podprostory pseudoradiálních prostorů. I wasn't aware of this work when preparing this paper.)
