Fixed point groups of involutions of type O(q,k)\mathrm{O}(\mathrm{q},k) over a field of characteristic two

For O(q,k)\mathrm{O}(\mathrm{q},k), the orthogonal group over a field kk of characteristic 2 with respect to a quadratic form q\mathrm{q}, we discuss the isomorphism classes of fixed points of involutions. When the quadratic space is either totally singular or nonsingular, a full classification of the isomorphism classes is given. We also give some implications of these results for a general quadratic space over a field of characteristic 22.

Minimal Parabolic kk-subgroups acting on Symmetric kk-varieties Corresponding to kk-split Groups

Symmetric kk-varieties are a natural generalization of symmetric spaces to general fields kk. We study the action of minimal parabolic kk-subgroups on symmetric kk-varieties and define a map that embeds these orbits within the orbits corresponding to algebraically closed fields. We develop a condition for the surjectivity of this map in the case of kk-split groups that depends only on the dimension of a maximal kk-split torus contained within the fixed point group of the involution defining the symmetric kk-variety.

On involutions of type O(q,k)\mathrm{O}(\mathrm{q},k) over a field of characteristic two

In this article we study the involutions of O(V,q)\mathrm{O}(V,\mathrm{q}), an orthogonal group for a vector space VV with quadratic form q\mathrm{q} over a field of characteristic 2. The classification proceeds by discussing conjugacy classes of involutions arising as a product of transvections, involutions with respect to a hyperbolic space, and involutions acting nontrivially in the radical of VV. We achieve a complete classification of the conjugacy classes of involutions when the quadratic space (V,q)(V,\mathrm{q}) is non-defective, and conclude with a discussion of the defective case.

Isomorphy Classes of Finite Order Automorphisms of SL(2, k)

In this paper, we consider the order m k-automorphisms of SL(2,k). We first characterize the forms that order m k-automorphisms of SL(2,k) take and then we simple conditions on matrices A and B, involving eigenvalues and the field that the entries of A and B lie in, that are equivalent to isomorphy between the order m k-automorphisms Inn_A and Inn_B. We examine the number of isomorphy classes and conclude with examples for selected fields.
