Geometric properties of spin clusters in random triangulations coupled with an Ising Model

We investigate the geometry of a typical spin cluster in random triangulations sampled with a probability proportional to the energy of an Ising configuration on their vertices, both in the finite and infinite volume settings. This model is known to undergo a combinatorial phase transition at an explicit critical temperature, for which its partition function has a different asymptotic behavior than uniform maps. The purpose of this work is to give geometric evidence of this phase transition. In the infinite volume setting, called the Infinite Ising Planar Triangulation, we exhibit a phase transition for the existence of an infinite spin cluster: for critical and supercritical temperatures, the root spin cluster is finite almost surely, while it is infinite with positive probability for subcritical temperatures. Remarkably, we are able to obtain an explicit parametric expression for this probability, which allows to prove that the percolation critical exponent is $β=1/4$. We also derive critical exponents for the tail distribution of the perimeter and of the volume of the root spin cluster, both in the finite and infinite volume settings. Finally, we establish the scaling limit of the interface of the root spin cluster seen as a looptree. In particular in the whole supercritical temperature regime, we prove that the critical exponents and the looptree limit are the same as for critical Bernoulli site percolation. Our proofs mix combinatorial and probabilistic arguments. The starting point is the gasket decomposition, which makes full use of the spatial Markov property of our model. This decomposition enables us to characterize the root spin cluster as a Boltzmann planar map in the finite volume setting. We then combine precise combinatorial results obtained through analytic combinatorics and universal features of Boltzmann maps to establish our results.

Convergence of odd-angulations via symmetrization of labeled trees

Fix $p\geq 5$ an odd integer integer. Let $M_n$ be a uniform $p$-angulation with $n$ vertices and endowed with the uniform probability measure on its vertices. We prove that, there exists $C_p\in \mathbb{R}_+$ such that, after rescaling distances by $C_p/n^{1/4}$, $M_n$ converges in distribution for the Gromov-Hausdorff-Prokhorov topology towards the Brownian map. To prove the preceding fact, we introduce a `bootstrapping' principle for distributional convergence of random labelled plane trees. In particular, the latter allows to obtain an invariance principle for labeled multitype Galton-Watson trees, with only a weak assumption on the centering of label displacements

Local convergence of large random triangulations coupled with an Ising model

We prove the existence of the local weak limit of the measure obtained by sampling random triangulations of size $n$ decorated by an Ising configuration with a weight proportional to the energy of this configuration. To do so, we establish the algebraicity and the asymptotic behaviour of the partition functions of triangulations with spins for any boundary condition. In particular, we show that these partition functions all have the same phase transition at the same critical temperature. Some properties of the limiting object -- called the Infinite Ising Planar Triangulation -- are derived, including the recurrence of the simple random walk at the critical temperature.

The scaling limit of random simple triangulations and random simple quadrangulations

Let $M_n$ be a simple triangulation of the sphere $S^2$, drawn uniformly at random from all such triangulations with n vertices. Endow $M_n$ with the uniform probability measure on its vertices. After rescaling graph distance on $V(M_n)$ by $(3/(4n))^{1/4}$, the resulting random measured metric space converges in distribution, in the Gromov-Hausdorff-Prokhorov sense, to the Brownian map. In proving the preceding fact, we introduce a labelling function for the vertices of $M_n$. Under this labelling, distances to a distinguished point are essentially given by vertex labels, with an error given by the winding number of an associated closed loop in the map. We establish similar results for simple quadrangulations.

Convexity in partial cubes: the hull number

We prove that the combinatorial optimization problem of determining the hull number of a partial cube is NP-complete. This makes partial cubes the minimal graph class for which NP-completeness of this problem is known and improves some earlier results in the literature. On the other hand we provide a polynomial-time algorithm to determine the hull number of planar partial cube quadrangulations. Instances of the hull number problem for partial cubes described include poset dimension and hitting sets for interiors of curves in the plane. To obtain the above results, we investigate convexity in partial cubes and characterize these graphs in terms of their lattice of convex subgraphs, improving a theorem of Handa. Furthermore we provide a topological representation theorem for planar partial cubes, generalizing a result of Fukuda and Handa about rank three oriented matroids.

Generic method for bijections between blossoming trees and planar maps

This article presents a unified bijective scheme between planar maps and blossoming trees, where a blossoming tree is defined as a spanning tree of the map decorated with some dangling half-edges that enable to reconstruct its faces. Our method generalizes a previous construction of Bernardi by loosening its conditions of applications so as to include annular maps, that is maps embedded in the plane with a root face different from the outer face. The bijective construction presented here relies deeply on the theory of α-orientations introduced by Felsner, and in particular on the existence of minimal and accessible orientations. Since most of the families of maps can be characterized by such orientations, our generic bijective method is proved to capture as special cases all previously known bijections involving blossoming trees: for example Eulerian maps, m-Eulerian maps, non separable maps and simple triangulations and quadrangulations of a k-gon. Moreover, it also permits to obtain new bijective constructions for bipolar orientations and d-angulations of girth d of a k-gon. As for applications, each specialization of the construction translates into enumerative by-products, either via a closed formula or via a recursive computational scheme. Besides, for every family of maps described in the paper, the construction can be implemented in linear time. It yields thus an effective way to encode and generate planar maps. In a recent work, Bernardi and Fusy introduced another unified bijective scheme, we adopt here a different strategy which allows us to capture different bijections. These two approaches should be seen as two complementary ways of unifying bijections between planar maps and decorated trees.

On symmetric quadrangulations and triangulations

This article presents new enumerative results related to symmetric planar maps. In the first part a new way of enumerating rooted simple quadrangulations and rooted simple triangulations is presented, based on the description of two different quotient operations on symmetric simple quadrangulations and triangulations. In the second part, based on results of Bouttier, Di Francesco and Guitter and on quotient and substitution operations, the series of three families of symmetric quadrangular and triangular dissections of polygons are computed, with control on the distance from the central vertex to the outer boundary.

On the algebraic numbers computable by some generalized Ehrenfest urns

This article deals with some stochastic population protocols, motivated by theoretical aspects of distributed computing. We modelize the problem by a large urn of black and white balls from which at every time unit a fixed number of balls are drawn and their colors are changed according to the number of black balls among them. When the time and the number of balls both tend to infinity the proportion of black balls converges to an algebraic number. We prove that, surprisingly enough, not every algebraic number can be "computed" this way.

Constellations and multicontinued fractions: application to Eulerian triangulations

We consider the problem of enumerating planar constellations with two points at a prescribed distance. Our approach relies on a combinatorial correspondence between this family of constellations and the simpler family of rooted constellations, which we may formulate algebraically in terms of multicontinued fractions and generalized Hankel determinants. As an application, we provide a combinatorial derivation of the generating function of Eulerian triangulations with two points at a prescribed distance.
