A priori bounds and positive solutions for non-variational fractional elliptic systems

In this paper we study strongly coupled elliptic systems in non-variational form involving fractional Laplace operators. We prove Liouville type theorems and, by mean of the blow-up method, we establish a priori bounds of positive solutions for subcritical and superlinear nonlinearities in a coupled sense. By using those latter, we then derive the existence of positive solutions through topological methods.

Sharp Lp-entropy inequalities on manifolds

In 2003, Del Pino and Dolbeault [14] and Gentil [19] investigated, independently, best constants and extremals associated to Euclidean Lp-entropy inequalities for p > 1. In this work, we present some contributions in the Riemannian context. Namely, let (M,g) be a closed Riemannian manifold of dimension n >= 3. For 1 < p <= 2, we establish the validity of the sharp Riemannian Lp-entropy inequality int_M |u|^p log(|u|^p) dv_g <= n/p log ( A_{opt} int_M |Grad_g u|^p dv_g + B ) on all functions u em H^{1,p}(M) such that ||u||_{Lp(M)} = 1 for some constant B. Moreover, we prove that the first best constant A_{opt} is equal to the corresponding Euclidean one. Our approach is inspired on the Bakry, Coulhon, Ledoux and Sallof-Coste's idea [3] of getting Euclidean entropy inequalities as a limit case of suitable subcritical interpolation inequalities. It is conjectured that the inequality sometimes fails for p > 2.

Sharp L^p-entropy inequalities on manifolds

\small{In 2004, Del Pino and Dolbeault \cite{DPDo} and Gentil \cite{G} investigated, independently, best constants and extremals associated to sharp Euclidean $L^p$-entropy inequalities. In this work, we present some important advances in the Riemannian context. Namely, let $(M,g)$ be a compact Riemannian manifold of dimension $n \geq 3$. For $1 < p \leq 2$, we prove that the sharp Riemannian $L^p$-entropy inequality \[\int_M |u|^p \log(|u|^p) dv_g \leq \frac{n}{p} \log ({\cal A}_{opt} \int_M |\nabla u|_g^p dv_g + {\cal B}) \] \n holds on all functions $u \in H^{1,p}(M)$ such that $||u||_{L^p(M)} = 1$. Moreover, we show that the first best Riemannian constant ${\cal A}_{opt}$ is equal to the corresponding Euclidean one. Our approach is inspired on the Bakry, Coulhon, Ledoux and Sallof-Coste's idea \cite{Ba} of getting Euclidean entropy inequalities as a limit case of suitable Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequalities. It is conjectured that the above inequality sometimes fails for $p > 2$.}

The k-Yamabe problem on CR manifolds

We introduce the notion of pseudohermitian k-curvature, which is a natural extension of the Webster scalar curvature, on an orientable manifold endowed with a strictly pseudoconvex pseudohermitian structure (referred here as a CR manifold) and raise the k-Yamabe problem on a compact CR manifold. When k=1, the problem was proposed and partially solved by Jerison and Lee for CR manifolds non-locally CR-equivalent to the CR sphere. For k > 1, the problem can be translated in terms of the study of a fully nonlinear equation of type complex k-Hessian. We provide some partial answers related to the CR k-Yamabe problem. We establish that its solutions with null Cotton tensor are critical points of a suitable geometric functional constrained to pseudohermitian structures of unit volume. Thanks to this variational property, we establish a Obata type result for the problem and also compute the infimum of the functional on the CR sphere. Furthermore, we show that this value is an upper bound for the corresponding one on any compact CR manifolds and, assuming the CR Yamabe invariant is positive, we prove that such an upper bound is only attained for compact CR manifolds locally CR-equivalent to the CR sphere. In the Riemannian field, recent advances have been produced in a series of outstanding works.

Extremal maps in best constants vector theory - Part I: Duality and Compactness

We develop a comprehensive study on sharp potential type Riemannian Sobolev inequalities of order 2 by means of a local geometric Sobolev inequality of same kind and suitable De Giorgi-Nash-Moser estimates. In particular we discuss questions like continuous dependence of optimal constants and existence and compactness of extremal maps. The main obstacle arising in the present setting lies at fairly weak conditions of regularity assumed on potential functions.
