Stellar structure of quark stars in a modified Starobinsky gravity

We propose a form of gravity-matter interaction given by $ωRT$ in the framework of $f(R,T)$ gravity and examine the effect of such interaction in spherically symmetric compact stars. Treating the gravity-matter coupling as a perturbative term on the background of Starobinsky gravity, we develop a perturbation theory for equilibrium configurations. For illustration, we take the case of quark stars and explore their various stellar properties. We find that the gravity-matter coupling causes an increase in the stable maximal mass which is relevant for recent observations on binary pulsars.

Prospect of Chandrasekhar's limit against modified dispersion relation

Newtonian gravity predicts the existence of white dwarfs with masses far exceeding the Chandrasekhar limit when the equation of state of the degenerate electron gas incorporates the effect of quantum spacetime fluctuations (via a modified dispersion relation) even when the strength of the fluctuations is taken to be very small. In this paper, we show that this Newtonian "super-stability" does not hold true when the gravity is treated in the general relativistic framework. Employing dynamical instability analysis, we find that the Chandrasekhar limit can be reassured even for a range of high strengths of quantum spacetime fluctuations with the onset density for gravitational collapse practically remaining unaffected.

Reply to Comment on Nonlocal quartic interactions and universality classes in perovskite manganites

Comment [arXiv:cond-mat.stat.mech., 1602.02087v1 (2016)] has raised questions claiming that the nonlocal model Hamiltonian presented in [Phys. Rev. E 92, 012123 (2015)] is equivalent to the standard (short-ranged) Φ^4 theory. These claims are based on a low momentum expansion of the interaction vertex that cannot be applied to the vertex factors containing both low and high momenta inside the loop-integrals. Elaborating upon the important steps of the momentum shell decimation scheme, employed in the renormalization-group calculation, we explicitly show the interplay of internal (high) and external (low) momenta determining the loop integrals for self-energy and vertex functions giving rise to corrections (to the bare parameters) different from those of the standard (short-ranged) Φ^4 theory. Employing explicit mathematical arguments, we show that this difference persists when the range of interaction is assumed to be long (short) ranged with respect to the lattice constant (correlation-length), yielding the critical exponents as given in the original paper.

Steady-state skewness and kurtosis from renormalized cumulants in $(2+1)$-dimensional stochastic surface growth

The phenomenon of stochastic growth of a surface on a two-dimensional substrate occurs in Nature in a variety of circumstances and its statistical characterization requires the study of higher order cumulants. Here, we consider the statistical cumulants of height fluctuations governed by the $(2+1)$-dimensional KPZ equation for flat geometry. We follow a diagrammatic scheme to derive the expressions for renormalized cumulants up to fourth order in the stationary state. Assuming a value for the roughness exponent from reliable numerical predictions, we calculate the second, third and fourth cumulants, yielding skewness $S=0.2879$ and kurtosis $Q=0.1995$. These values agree well with the available numerical estimations.

A Renormalization Scheme and Skewness of Height Fluctuations in $(1+1)$-dimensional VLDS Dynamics

We study the $(1+1)$-dimensional Villain, Lai, and Das Sarma (VLDS) equation driven by a Gaussian white noise and implement a renormalization scheme without rescaling at one-loop order. Using a diagrammatic method, we calculate the renormalized second and third moments in the large-scale and long-time limits. The ensuing skewness value is $S=-0.0441$. This (negative) value is consistent with the numerical prediction of Das Sarma \emph{et al.} [Phys. Rev. E {\bf 53} 359 (1996)].

Hyperskewness of $(1+1)$-dimensional KPZ Height Fluctuations

We evaluate the fifth order normalized cumulant, known as hyperskewness, of height fluctuations dictated by the $(1+1)$-dimensional KPZ equation for the stochastic growth of a surface on a flat geometry in the stationary state. We follow a diagrammatic approach and invoke a renormalization scheme to calculate the fifth cumulant given by a connected loop diagram. This, together with the result for the second cumulant, leads to the hyperskewness value $\widetilde{S} = 0.0835$.

Skewness in (1+1)-dimensional Kardar-Parisi-Zhang-type growth

We use the $(1+1)$-dimensional Kardar-Parisi-Zhang equation driven by a Gaussian white noise and employ the dynamic renormalization-group of Yakhot and Orszag without rescaling [J.~Sci.\ Comput.~{\bf 1}, 3 (1986)]. Hence we calculate the second and third order moments of height distribution using the diagrammatic method in the large scale and long time limits. The moments so calculated lead to the value $S=0.3237$ for the skewness. This value is comparable with numerical and experimental estimates.
