On the definition of local spatial densities in hadrons

We show that the matrix element of a local operator between hadronic states gives rise to an unambiguous definition of the associated spatial density. As an explicit example, we consider the charge density of a spinless particle in the rest and moving frames and clarify its relationship to the electric form factor. Our results suggest that the interpretation of the spatial densities of local operators and their moments such as the mean square charge radius needs to be revised.

Chiral theory of $ρ$-meson gravitational form factors

The low-energy chiral effective field theory of vector mesons and Goldstone bosons in external gravitational field is considered. The energy-momentum tensor is obtained and the gravitational form factors of the $ρ$-meson are calculated up to next-to-leading order in the chiral expansion. This amounts to considering tree-level and one-loop order diagrams. The chiral expansion of the form factors at zero momentum transfer as well as of the slope parameters is worked out. Also, the long-range behaviour of the energy and internal force distributions is obtained and analysed.

On LHCb pentaquarks as a baryon-psi(2S) bound state -- prediction of isospin 3/2 pentaquarks with hidden charm

The pentaquark $P_c^+(4450)$ recently discovered by LHCb has been interpreted as a bound state of $Ψ(2S)$ and nucleon. The charmonium-nucleon interaction which provides the binding mechanism is given, in the heavy quark limit, in terms of charmonium chromoelectric polarizabilities and densities of the nucleon energy-momentum tensor (EMT). In this work we show in model-independent way, by exploring general properties of the effective interaction, that $Ψ(2S)$ can form bound states with nucleon and $Δ$. Using the Skyrme model to evaluate the effective interaction in the large-$N_c$ limit and estimate $1/N_c$ corrections, we confirm the results from prior work which were based on a different effective model (chiral quark soliton model). This shows that the interpretation of $P_c^+(4450)$ is remarkably robust and weakly dependent on the details of the effective theories for the nucleon EMT. We explore the formalism further and present robust predictions of isospin $\frac32$ bound states of $Ψ(2S)$ and $Δ$ with masses around $4.5\,{\rm GeV}$ and widths around $70\,{\rm MeV}$. The approach also predicts broader resonances in the $Ψ(2S)$-$Δ$ channel at $4.9\,{\rm GeV}$ with widths of the order of $150\,{\rm MeV}$. We discuss in which reactions these new isospin $\frac 32$ pentaquarks with hidden charm can be observed.

Dispersive evaluation of the D-term form factor in deeply virtual Compton scattering

We present a dispersive representation of the D-term form factor for hard exclusive reactions, using unsubtracted $t$-channel dispersion relations. The $t$-channel unitarity relation is saturated with the contribution of two-pion intermediate states, using the two-pion distributions amplitude for the $γ^*γ\rightarrow ππ$ subprocess and reconstructing the $ππ\rightarrow N\bar N$ subprocess from available information on pion-nucleon partial-wave helicity amplitudes. Results for the D-term form factor as function of $t$ as well as at $t=0$ are discussed in comparison with available model predictions and phenomenological parametrizations.

The neutron anomaly in the gamma N --> eta N cross section through the looking glass of the flavour SU(3) symmetry

We study the implications of the flavour SU(3) symmetry for various interpretations of the neutron anomaly in the $γN\toηN$ cross section. We show that the explanation of the neutron anomaly due to interference of known N(1535) and N(1650) resonances implies that N(1650) resonance should have a huge coupling to $ϕ$-meson -- at least 5 times larger than the corresponding $ρ^0$ coupling. In terms of quark degrees of freedom this means that the well-known N(1650) resonance must be a "cryptoexotic pentaquark"-- its wave function should contain predominantly an $s\bar s$ component. It turns out that the "conventional" interpretation of the neutron anomaly by the interference of known resonances metamorphoses into unconventional physics picture of N(1650).

Observation of a narrow structure in p(gamma,K_s)X via interference with phi-meson production

We report observation of a narrow peak structure at ~1.54 GeV with a Gaussian width sigma=6 MeV in the missing of K_s in the reaction gamma+p = pK_sK_L. The observed structure may be due to the interference between a strange (or anti-strange) baryon resonance in the pK_L system and the phi(K_sK_L) photoproduction leading to the same final state. The statistical significance of the observed excess of events estimated as the log likelihood ratio of the resonant signal+background hypothesis and the phi-production based background only hypothesis corresponds to 5.3 sigma.

Chiral Inflation of the Pion Radius

We derive expression for the large b_perp asymptotic of the 3D parton distributions q(x,b_perp) in the pion. The asymptotic depends exclusively on the mass scales F_pi and m_pi. Therefore it provides us with a nice example of a strict non-perturbative result for the partonic structure of Nambu-Goldstone bosons in QCD. Analyzing the x-dependent pion transverse radius we reveal a new phenomenon of "chiral inflation"-- in the parametrically wide region of Bjorken x (m_pi^2/(4 pi F_pi)^2 << x << 1) the pion radius grows exponentially fast with the rapidity eta=ln(1/x). We show that the partons in this interval of Bjorken x contribute to famous logarithmic divergency of the pion radius. In other words, the partonic picture of the classical result of ChPT is provided. The phenomenon of the chiral inflation is at variance with the Gribov diffusion, because of long-range interaction of the Nambu-Goldstone bosons.

Evidence for Narrow N*(1685) Resonance in Quasifree Compton Scattering on the Neutron

The first study of quasi-free Compton scattering on the neutron in the energy range of $E_γ=0.75 - 1.5$ GeV is presented. The data reveals a narrow peak at $W\sim 1.685$ GeV. This result, being considered in conjunction with the recent evidence for a narrow structure at $W\sim 1.68$GeV in the $η$ photoproduction on the neutron, suggests the existence of a new nucleon resonance with unusual properties: the mass $M\sim 1.685$GeV, the narrow width $Γ\leq 30$MeV, and the much stronger photoexcitation on the neutron than on the proton.

On Narrow Nucleon Excitation N*(1685)

We collected notes and simple estimates about putative narrow nucleon N*(1685) - the candidate for the non-strange member of the exotic anti-decuplet of baryons. In particular, we consider the recent high precision data on eta photoproduction off free proton obtained by the Crystal Ball Collaboration at MAMI. We show that it is difficult to describe peculiarities of these new data in the invariant energy interval of W ~ 1650-1750 MeV in terms of known wide resonances. Using very simple estimates, we show that the data may indicate an existence of a narrow N*(1685) with small photocoupling to the proton.

Search for Narrow Nucleon Resonance in $γp\to ηp$

Results of a partial wave analysis of new high-statistics data on $γp\to pη$ from MAMI are presented. A fit using known broad resonances and only standard background amplitudes can not describe the relatively narrow peaking structure in the cross section in the mass region of 1660-1750 MeV which follows a minimum. An improved description of the data can be reached by either assuming the existence of a narrow resonance at a mass of about 1700 MeV with small photo-coupling or by a threshold effect. In the latter case the observed structure is explained by a strong (resonant or non-resonant) $γp\toωp$ coupling in the $S_{11}$ partial wave. When the beam asymmetry data, published by part of the GRAAL collaboration, are included in the fit, the solution with a narrow $P_{11}$ state is slightly preferred. In that fit, mass and width of the hypothetical resonance are determined to $M\sim$1694 MeV and $Γ\sim 40$ MeV, respectively, and the photo-coupling to $\sqrt{{\rm Br}_{ηN}} A_{1/2}^p \sim 2.6\cdot 10^{-3}$ GeV$^{-1/2}$. High precision measurements of the target asymmetry and $F$-observable are mandatory to establish the possible existence of such a narrow state and to provide the necessary information to define which partial wave is responsible for the structure observed in the data.

Leading infrared logarithms for sigma-model with fields on arbitrary Riemann manifold

We derive non-linear recursion equation for the leading infrared logarithms (LL) in four dimensional sigma-model with fields on an arbitrary Riemann manifold. The derived equation allows one to compute leading infrared logarithms to essentially unlimited loop order in terms of geometric characteristics of the Riemann manifold. We reduce the solution of the SU(oo) principal chiral field in arbitrary number of dimensions in the LL approximation to the solution of very simple recursive equation. This result paves a way to the solution of the model in arbitrary number of dimensions at N-->oo

Leading Infrared Logarithms from Unitarity, Analyticity and Crossing

We derive non-linear recursion equations for the leading infrared logarithms in massless non-renormalizable effective field theories. The derivation is based solely on the requirements of the unitarity, analyticity and crossing symmetry of the amplitudes. That emphasizes the general nature of the corresponding equations. The derived equations allow one to compute leading infrared logarithms to essentially unlimited loop order without performing a loop calculation. For the implementation of the recursion equation one needs to calculate tree diagrams only. The application of the equation is demonstrated on several examples of effective field theories in four and higher space-time dimensions.

Chiral Logarithms Tamed

We derive non-linear recursion relations for the leading chiral logarithms (LLs). These relations not only provide a very efficient method of computation of LLs (e.g. the 33-loop contribution is calculated in a dozen of seconds on a PC) but also equip us with a powerful tool for the summation of the LLs. Our method is not limited to the chiral perturbation theory only, it is pertinent for any non-renormalizable effective field theory such as, for instance, the theory of critical phenomena, the low-energy quantum gravity, etc.

Photoproduction off the nucleon revisited: Evidence for a narrow N(1688) resonance?

Revised analysis of $Σ$ beam asymmetry for the $η$ photoproduction on the free proton reveals a structure at $W\sim 1.69$ GeV. Fit of the experimental data based on the E429 solution of the SAID partial wave analysis suggests a narrow ($Γ\leq 25$ MeV) resonance. Possible candidates are $P_{11}, P_{13}$, or $D_{13}$ resonances. The result is considered in conjunction with the recent evidence for a bump-like structure at $W\sim 1.67 - 1.68$ GeV in the quasi-free $η$ photoproduction on the neutron.

Spatial image of reaction area from scattering.II: On connection between the differential cross-sections in transverse momentum and in nearest approach parameter

We develop general formalism of how to relate cross-section for exclusive processes to spatial image of reaction area. More precisely we show how to determine the spatial distribution of outgoing particles in the space of so-called nearest approach parameter. This parameter characterizes the position in the coordinate space the place where the final particle is produced.

Extraction of radiative decay width for the non-strange partner of Theta^+

Using the results of the GRAAL collaboration on the ηphotoproduction from the neutron target, we attempt to extract the partial radiative width of the possible new nucleon resonance N^*(1675). The obtained estimates support this resonance to be a very attractive candidate for the non-strange member of the exotic antidecuplet of baryons -- a partner of the Θ^+ pentaquark. Our phenomenological value for the transition magnetic moment μ(n^* n), appears to be in good agreement with predictions of the Chiral Quark Soliton Model.

Light cone nucleon wave function in the quark-soliton model

The light-cone wave function of the nucleon is calculated in the limit N_c -> infinity in the quark-soliton model inspired by the theory of the instanton vacuum of QCD. The technique of the finite time evolution operator is used in order to derive expressions for all components of the Fock vector describing the nucleon in the infinite momentum frame. It is shown that nucleon wave function for large N_c can be expressed in terms of the wave function of the discrete level in the self-consistent meson field and light cone wave functions of 1,2, etc mesons. The 3-quark components of the nucleon and Delta-resonance are estimated. Wave function of the nucleon appears to be positive in the whole region of x and it has rather small asymmetry. It differs strongly both from Chernyak-Zhitnitsky wave function and the asymptotic one. Large momentum transfer asymptotic of the electromagnetic and axial form factors is discussed.

Hard Exclusive Reactions and the Structure of Hadrons

We outline in detail the properties of generalized parton distributions (GPDs), which contain new information on the structure of the nucleon and which enter the description of hard exclusive reactions. We highlight the physics content of the GPDs and discuss the quark GPDs in the large $N_c$ limit and within the context of the chiral quark-soliton model. Guided by this physics, we then present a general parametrization for these GPDs. Subsequently we discuss how these GPDs enter in a wide variety of hard electroproduction processes and how they can be accessed from them. We consider in detail deeply virtual Compton scattering and the hard electroproduction of mesons. We identify a list of key observables which are sensitive to the various nucleon structure aspects contained in the GPDs and which can be addressed by present and future experiments.

Transversity distributions in the nucleon in the large-N_c limit

We compute the quark and antiquark transversity distributions in the nucleon at a low normalization point of 600 MeV in the large-$N_c$ limit, where the nucleon can be described as a soliton of an effective chiral theory (chiral quark-soliton model). The flavor-nonsinglet distributions, $δu(x) - δd(x)$ and $δ\bar u(x) - δ\bar d(x)$, appear in leading order of the $1/N_c$-expansion, while the flavor-singlet distributions, $δu(x) + δd(x)$ and $δ\bar u(x) + δ\bar d(x)$, are non-zero only in next-to-leading order. The transversity quark and antiquark distributions are found to be significantly different from the longitudinally polarized distributions $Δu (x) \pm Δd (x)$ and $Δ\bar u (x) \pm Δ\bar d (x)$, respectively, in contrast to the prediction of the naive non-relativistic quark model. We show that this affects the predictions for the spin asymmetries in Drell-Yan pair production in transversely polarized pp and ppbar collisions.

Electron Scattering with Polarized Targets at TESLA

Measurements of polarized electron-nucleon scattering can be realized at the TESLA linear collider facility with projected luminosities that are about two orders of magnitude higher than those expected of other experiments at comparable energies. Longitudinally polarized electrons, accelerated as a small fraction of the total current in the e+ arm of TESLA, can be directed onto a solid state target that may be either longitudinally or transversely polarized. A large variety of polarized parton distribution and fragmentation functions can be determined with unprecedented accuracy, many of them for the first time. A main goal of the experiment is the precise measurement of the x- and Q^2-dependence of the experimentally totally unknown quark transversity distributions that will complete the information on the nucleon's quark spin structure as relevant for high energy processes. Comparing their Q^2-evolution to that of the corresponding helicity distributions constitutes an important precision test of the predictive power of QCD in the spin sector. Measuring transversity distributions and tensor charges allows access to the hitherto unmeasured chirally odd operators in QCD which are of great importance to understand the role of chiral symmetry. The possibilities of using unpolarized targets and of experiments with a real photon beam turn TESLA-N into a versatile next-generation facility at the intersection of particle and nuclear physics.

Flavor asymmetry of polarized antiquark distributions and semi-inclusive DIS

The $1/N_c$-expansion of QCD suggests large flavor asymmetries of the polarized antiquark distributions in the nucleon. This is confirmed by model calculations in the large-$N_c$ limit (chiral quark-soliton model), which give sizable results for $Δ\bar u (x) - Δ\bar d (x)$ and $Δ\bar u (x) + Δ\bar d (x) - 2 Δ\bar s (x)$. We compute the contributions of these flavor asymmetries to the spin asymmetries in hadron production in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering. We show that the large flavor asymmetries predicted by the chiral quark-soliton model are consistent with the recent HERMES data for spin asymmetries in charged hadron production.

Hard exclusive electroproduction of decuplet baryons in the large N_c limit

The cross sections and transverse spin asymmetries in the hard exclusive electroproduction of decuplet baryons are calculated in the large N_c limit and found to be comparable to that of octet baryons. Large N_c selection rules for the production amplitudes are derived, leading to new sensitive tests of the spin aspects of the QCD chiral dynamics both in the nonstrange and strange sectors. Importance of such studies for the reliable extraction of the pion form factor from pion electroproduction is explained.

Hard exclusive electroproduction of two pions and their resonances

We study the hard exclusive production of two pions in the virtual photon fragmentation region with various invariant masses including the resonance region. The amplitude is expressed in terms of two-pion light cone distribution amplitudes ($2π$DA's). We derive dispersion relations for these amplitudes, which enables us to fix them completely in terms of $ππ$ scattering phases and a few low-energy subtraction constants determind by the effective chiral lagrangian. Quantitative estimates of the resonance as well $ππ$ background DA's at low normalization point are made. We also prove certain new soft pion theorem relating two-pion DA's to the one-pion DA's. Crossing relations between $2π$DA's and parton distributions in a pion are discussed. We demontrate that by studying the \underline{shape} of the $ππ$ mass spectra (not absolute cross section!) in a diffractive electroproduction one can extract the deviation of the meson ($π,ρ,$ etc.) wave functions from their asymptotic form $6 z(1-z)$ and hence to get important information about the structure of mesons. We suggest (alternative to Söding's) parametrization of $ππ$ spectra which is suitable for large photon virtuality.

Nucleon structure functions from the instanton vacuum: Leading and non-leading twists

We review the description of nucleon structure functions in the instanton vacuum. This includes the calculation of the twist-2 parton distributions at a low normalization point as well as higher-twist matrix elements. The instanton vacuum with its inherent small parameter, the packing fraction of the instanton medium, $\barρ/ R$, provides a consistent picture of the non-perturbative gluon degrees of freedom at the scale $\barρ^{-1} \simeq 600 MeV$. The twist-2 quark and antiquark distributions are of order unity, while the twist-2 gluon distribution is of order $(\barρ/ R)^4$. Twist-4 matrix elements determining power corrections to the Bjorken, Ellis-Jaffe and Gross-Llewellyn-Smith sum rules are found to be of order $(\barρ/ R)^0$. We present numerical estimates for the parametrically large quantities.

Phenomenological $ πN \to ππN $ Amplitude and Analysis of Low Energy Data on Total Cross Sections and 1--D Distributions

We develop the phenomenological amplitude of the $πN \to ππN$ reaction describing the exchanges of $Δ$ and $N_{*}$ along with the OPE mechanism. The contribution of the latter contains 4 independent low energy parameters (up to $O(k^{4})$ order). The terms of the polynomial background are added to stand for far resonances and for contact terms originating from the off-mass-shell interactions. These terms are introduced with the account of isotopic, crossing, $ C $, $ P $ and $ T $ symmetries of strong interactions. The data consisting of total cross sections in the energy region $ 0.300 \le P_{Lab} \le 500 $~MeV/c and 1D distributions from the bubble-chamber experiments for three reaction channels were undergoing fittings to determine free parameters of the amplitude. The best solutions are characterized by $ χ^{2}_{DF} = $ 1.16. At the considered energies the isobar exchanges are found to be more important than OPE. The obtained solutions reveal the need in more precise data and/or in polarization measurements because of large correlations of isobar parameters with the OPE ones. The theoretical solutions were used for modeling the Chew-Low extrapolation and the Olsson-Turner threshold approach. It is shown that the noncritical application of the former results in 100% theoretical errors, the extracted values being in fact the random numbers. The results of the Olsson-Turner method are characterised by significant systematic errors coming from unknown details of isobar physics.

Contribution of the Sixth Order Effective Chiral Lagrangian to the $πK$ Scattering at Large $N_c$

Using the method of asymptotic sum rules we estimated the size of $O(m_s p_π^4)$ and $O(m_s^2 p_π^2)$ corrections to $πK$ scattering amplitude in large $N_c$ limit. These corrections arise from the sixth order effective chiral lagrangian (EChL). Our method enables us to estimate the corresponding terms of the sixth order EChL in leading order of $1/N_c$ expansion in model independent way. We found that the corrections numerically are suppressed in spite of naive expectation of 30--35\%. Our estimation gives the value of these corrections about 5--10\% .

Magnetic Moments of the SU(3) Octet Baryons in the semibosonized SU(3) Nambu-Jona-Lasinio Model

We investigate the magnetic moments of the SU(3) octet baryons in the framework of the $SU(3)$ semibosonized Nambu--Jona--Lasinio model. The rotational $1/N_c$ corrections and strange quark mass in linear order are taken into account. We derive general relations between magnetic moments of the SU(3) octet baryons, based on the symmetry of our model. These relations indicate that higher order corrections such as $O(m_s/N_c)$ and $O(m^{2}_{s})$ are relatively small. The magnetic moments of the octet baryons predicted by our model are quantitatively in a good agreement with experimental results within about 15$\%$.
