QCD isospin breaking ChPT low-energy constants from the instanton vacuum

In the framework of the instanton vacuum model we evaluate the Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT) low-energy constants h_3,l_7. We found that in the instanton vacuum model the constant l_7 is very sensitive to the shape of the instanton and the instanton vacuum parameters. We evaluated the constant l_7 for two different zero-mode profiles and as a function of the average instanton size ρand inter-instanton distance R. Our result agrees with an old "order of magnitude" estimate of this constant from [1]. The obtained value of l_7 implies that the pure QCD contribution to the pion mass difference is small, ~1% of the observed experimental value.

A possible explanation why the Theta+ is seen in some experiments and not in others

To understand the whole set of positive and null data on the Theta+(1530)-production, we suggest the hypothesis that multiquark hadrons are mainly generated from many-quark states, which emerge either as short-term hadron fluctuations, or as hadron remnants in hard processes. This approach allows us to describe both non-observation of the Theta+ in current null experiments and peculiar features of its production in positive experiments. Further, we are able to propose new experiments that might be decisive for the problem of the Theta+ existence. Distributions of the Theta+ in such experiments can give important information both on higher Fock components of conventional hadrons and about structure and hadronization properties of hadron remnants produced in hard processes. We also explain that description of multiquark hadrons may require a modified form of the constituent quark model, with quark masses and couplings being intermediate between their values for the familiar constituent quarks and the current ones.

How is Exotics Produced ? Where to Search for it ?

On the basis of existing data, we suggest such a mechanism of production for exotic hadrons that can explain, at least qualitatively, why the Theta+-baryon is seen in some experiments and not in others. With our hypothesis, production of exotic hadrons is a new kind of hard processes. We also can propose new experiments to check (and confirm?) existence of exotics and to provide new important information about both exotic and conventional hadrons [The talk is based on the papers by Ya. Azimuthal asymmetries and Collins analyzing power

Spin azimuthal asymmetries in pion electro-production in deep inelastic scattering off longitudinally polarized protons, measured by HERMES, are well reproduced theoretically with no adjustable parameters. Predictions for azimuthal asymmetries for a longitudinally polarized deuteron target are given. The z-dependence of the Collins fragmentation function is extracted. The first information on e(x) is extracted from CLAS A_LU asymmetry.

Erratum to "Azimuthal asymmetry in electro-production of neutral pions in semi-inclusive DIS" published in Phys. Lett. B522 (2001) 37

We correct our analysis of the HERMES experiment for the azimuthal sin(phi)-spin asymmetry in semi-inclusive hadroproduction in DIS on longitudinally (with respect to the lepton momentum) polarized target because of discovered misprint in sign in the paper P.J.Mulders and R.D.Tangerman, Nucl. Phys. B 461 (1996) 197.

Predictions for azimuthal asymmetries in pion and kaon production in SIDIS off a longitudinally polarized deuterium target at HERMES

Predictions are made for azimuthal asymmetries in pion and kaon production from SIDIS off a longitudinally polarized deuterium target for HERMES kinematics, based on information on the 'Collins fragmentation function' from DELPHI data and on predictions for the transversity distribution function from non-perturbative calculations in the chiral quark-soliton model. There are no free parameters in the approach, which has been already successfully applied to explain the azimuthal asymmetries from SIDIS off polarized proton targets observed by HERMES and SMC.

Hard Exclusive Reactions and the Structure of Hadrons

We outline in detail the properties of generalized parton distributions (GPDs), which contain new information on the structure of the nucleon and which enter the description of hard exclusive reactions. We highlight the physics content of the GPDs and discuss the quark GPDs in the large $N_c$ limit and within the context of the chiral quark-soliton model. Guided by this physics, we then present a general parametrization for these GPDs. Subsequently we discuss how these GPDs enter in a wide variety of hard electroproduction processes and how they can be accessed from them. We consider in detail deeply virtual Compton scattering and the hard electroproduction of mesons. We identify a list of key observables which are sensitive to the various nucleon structure aspects contained in the GPDs and which can be addressed by present and future experiments.

Spin-dependent twist-4 matrix elements from the instanton vacuum: Flavor-singlet and nonsinglet

We estimate the twist-4 spin-1 nucleon matrix element f_2 in an instanton-based description of the QCD vacuum. In addition to the flavor-nonsinglet we compute also the flavor-singlet matrix element, which appears in next-to-leading order of the (1/N_c)-expansion. The corresponding twist-3 spin-2 matrix elements d_2 are suppressed in the packing fraction of the instanton medium, (\bar ρ)/(\bar R) << 1. We use our results to estimate the leading (1/Q^2) power corrections to the first moment of the proton and neutron spin structure functions G_1, as well as the intrinsic charm contribution to the nucleon spin.

SU(3) Symmetry Breaking and Polarized Parton Densities

We analyze the semileptonic weak decays of the octet baryons in a "model independent" approach, based on the algebraic structure of the Chiral Quark-Soliton Model. We argue that this analysis is in fact more general than the model itself. While the symmetry breaking for the semileptonic decays themselves is not strong, other quantities like $Δs$ and $ΔΣ$ are much more affected. We calculate $ΔΣ$ and $Δq$ for all octet baryons. Unfortunately, large experimental errors of $Ξ^-$ decays propagate in our analysis, in particular, in the case of $ΔΣ$ and $Δs$. Only if the errors for these decays are reduced, the accurate theoretical predictions for $ΔΣ$ and $Δs$ will be possible.

Transversity distributions in the nucleon in the large-N_c limit

We compute the quark and antiquark transversity distributions in the nucleon at a low normalization point of 600 MeV in the large-$N_c$ limit, where the nucleon can be described as a soliton of an effective chiral theory (chiral quark-soliton model). The flavor-nonsinglet distributions, $δu(x) - δd(x)$ and $δ\bar u(x) - δ\bar d(x)$, appear in leading order of the $1/N_c$-expansion, while the flavor-singlet distributions, $δu(x) + δd(x)$ and $δ\bar u(x) + δ\bar d(x)$, are non-zero only in next-to-leading order. The transversity quark and antiquark distributions are found to be significantly different from the longitudinally polarized distributions $Δu (x) \pm Δd (x)$ and $Δ\bar u (x) \pm Δ\bar d (x)$, respectively, in contrast to the prediction of the naive non-relativistic quark model. We show that this affects the predictions for the spin asymmetries in Drell-Yan pair production in transversely polarized pp and ppbar collisions.

Electron Scattering with Polarized Targets at TESLA

Measurements of polarized electron-nucleon scattering can be realized at the TESLA linear collider facility with projected luminosities that are about two orders of magnitude higher than those expected of other experiments at comparable energies. Longitudinally polarized electrons, accelerated as a small fraction of the total current in the e+ arm of TESLA, can be directed onto a solid state target that may be either longitudinally or transversely polarized. A large variety of polarized parton distribution and fragmentation functions can be determined with unprecedented accuracy, many of them for the first time. A main goal of the experiment is the precise measurement of the x- and Q^2-dependence of the experimentally totally unknown quark transversity distributions that will complete the information on the nucleon's quark spin structure as relevant for high energy processes. Comparing their Q^2-evolution to that of the corresponding helicity distributions constitutes an important precision test of the predictive power of QCD in the spin sector. Measuring transversity distributions and tensor charges allows access to the hitherto unmeasured chirally odd operators in QCD which are of great importance to understand the role of chiral symmetry. The possibilities of using unpolarized targets and of experiments with a real photon beam turn TESLA-N into a versatile next-generation facility at the intersection of particle and nuclear physics.

Flavor asymmetry of polarized antiquark distributions and semi-inclusive DIS

The $1/N_c$-expansion of QCD suggests large flavor asymmetries of the polarized antiquark distributions in the nucleon. This is confirmed by model calculations in the large-$N_c$ limit (chiral quark-soliton model), which give sizable results for $Δ\bar u (x) - Δ\bar d (x)$ and $Δ\bar u (x) + Δ\bar d (x) - 2 Δ\bar s (x)$. We compute the contributions of these flavor asymmetries to the spin asymmetries in hadron production in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering. We show that the large flavor asymmetries predicted by the chiral quark-soliton model are consistent with the recent HERMES data for spin asymmetries in charged hadron production.

Symmetry conserving approach to the quantization of the non-topological SU(3) soliton

We reconsider canonical quantization of the rotating soliton in the SU(3) Chiral Quark-Soliton Model. We show that at the level of 1/N_c, in contrast to the SU(2) version of the model, there appear terms which spoil the commutation rules of the flavor generators. Terms of similar origin are also present in the expressions for axial couplings and magnetic moments. We investigate the small soliton limit of the model, and require that the results for the physical observables reduce to the ones of the non-relativistic quark model. This procedure allows to identify the troublesome terms. Next, we introduce a symmetry conserving approach by subtracting these terms and discuss numerical predictions obtained that way.

Analytic structure of meson propagators in the proper-time regularized Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model

We analyze the analytic structure of meson propagators in the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with a proper-time regulator. We show that the regulator produces unphysical complex singularities. As a result the naive use of the Wick rotation is no longer allowed. Formulas involving integration over mesonic momenta, such as meson-loop contributions or dispersion relations for meson Green's functions, cannot be written in usual forms.

$E2/M1$ Ratio for the $γN\rightarrow Δ$ Transition in the Chiral Quark Soliton Model

We calculate the electric quadrupole to magnetic dipole transition ratio $E2/M1$ for the reaction $γN \ra Δ(1232)$ in the chiral quark soliton model. The calculated $E2/M1$ ratio is in a good agreement with the very new experimental data. We obtain non-zero negative value for the electric quadrupole $N-Δ$ transition moment, which suggests an oblate deformed charge structure of the nucleon or/and the delta isobar. Other observables related to this quantity, namely the $N-Δ$ mass splitting, the isovector charge radius, and isovector magnetic moment, are properly reproduced as well.

Magnetic Moments of the SU(3) Octet Baryons in the semibosonized SU(3) Nambu-Jona-Lasinio Model

We investigate the magnetic moments of the SU(3) octet baryons in the framework of the $SU(3)$ semibosonized Nambu--Jona--Lasinio model. The rotational $1/N_c$ corrections and strange quark mass in linear order are taken into account. We derive general relations between magnetic moments of the SU(3) octet baryons, based on the symmetry of our model. These relations indicate that higher order corrections such as $O(m_s/N_c)$ and $O(m^{2}_{s})$ are relatively small. The magnetic moments of the octet baryons predicted by our model are quantitatively in a good agreement with experimental results within about 15$\%$.

NJL model with vector couplings vs. phenomenology

We study the pseudoscalar, vector and axial current correlation functions in SU(2)-NJL model with scalar and vector couplings. The correlation functions are evaluated in leading order in number of colors $N_c$. As it is expected in the pseudoscalar channel pions appear as Goldstone bosons, and after fixing the cutoff to reproduce the physical pion decay constant, we obtain well-known current-algebra results. For the vector and axial channels we use essentially that at spacelike momenta the correlation functions can be related to the experimentally known spectral density via dispersion relations. We show that the latter imposes strong bounds on the strength of the vector coupling in the model. We find that the commonly used on-shell treatment of the vector and axial mesons (identified as poles at large timelike momenta) fails to reproduce the behavior of the corresponding correlation functions at small spacelike momenta extracted from the physical spectral density. The parameters of the NJL model fixed by the correlation functions at small spacelike momenta differ noticeably from those of the on-shell treatment.

Hyperon in Chiral Effective Quark Models

Baryonic correlation functions are calculated within an effective chiral quark model motivated by the instanton liquid model of QCD. Using a flavour SU(3) symmetry for the local four-quark interaction and taking rotational zero modes for the quantization into account low-energy hadronic observables are in surprising agreement with experimental data. $1/N_c$ Rotational Corrections to $g_A$ and Isovector Magnetic Moment of the Nucleon

The $1/N_c$ rotational corrections to the axial vector constant and the isovector magnetic moment of the nucleon are studied in the Nambu -- Jona-Lasinio model. We follow a semiclassical quantization procedure in terms of path integrals in which we can include perturbatively corrections in powers of angular velocity $Ω\sim \frac 1{N_c}$. We find non-zero $1/N_c$ order corrections from both the valence and the Dirac sea quarks. These corrections are large enough to resolve the long-standing problem of a strong underestimation of both $g_A$ and $μ^{IV}$ in the leading order. The axial constant $g_A$ is well reproduced, whereas the isovector magnetic moment $μ^{IV}$ is still underestimated by 25 \%.

On Size and Shape of the Average Meson Fields in the Semibosonized Nambu & Jona-Lasinio Model

We consider a two-flavor Nambu \& Jona-Lasinio model in Hartree approximation involving scalar-isoscalar and pseudoscalar-isovector quark-quark interactions. Average meson fields are defined by minimizing the effective Euklidean action. The fermionic part of the action, which contains the full Dirac sea, is regularized within Schwinger's proper-time scheme. The meson fields are restricted to the chiral circle and to hedgehog configurations. The only parameter of the model is the constituent quark mass $M$ which simultaneously controls the regularization. We evaluate meson and quark fields self-consistently in dependence on the constituent quark mass. It is shown that the self-consistent fields do practically not depend on the constituent quark mass. This allows us to define a properly parameterized reference field which for physically relevant constituent masses can be used as a good approximation to the exactly calculated one. The reference field is chosen to have correct behaviour for small and large radii. To test the agreement between self-consistent and reference fields we calculate several observables like nucleon energy, mean square radius, axial-vector constant and delta-nucleon mass splitting in dependence on the constituent quark mass. The agreement is found to be very well. Figures available on request.

Rotational Corrections to Axial Currents in Semibosonized SU(3) Nambu--Jona-Lasinio Model

We examine $O(1/\Ne)$ rotational corrections to axial couplings \gt~ and \go~ in the framework of the semibosonized SU(3) Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. A novelty is due to the observation that the rotational (cranking) velocity and the rotation matrix itself do not commute within semiclassical quantization scheme. If time ordering in the quark loop is maintained new contributions, which have no analogue in the Skyrme model, appear. They substantially improve numerical results for the axial couplings which without the present corrections are badly underestimated.
