Lagrangian formulation of massive fermionic higher spin fields on a constant electromagnetic background

We consider massive half-integer higher spin fields coupled to an external constant electromagnetic field in flat space of an arbitrary dimension and construct a gauge invariant Lagrangian in the linear approximation in the external field. A procedure for finding the gauge-invariant Lagrangians is based on the BRST construction where no off-shell constraints on the fields and on the gauge parameters are imposed from the very beginning. As an example of the general procedure, we derive a gauge invariant Lagrangian for a massive fermionic field with spin 3/2 which contains a set of auxiliary fields and gauge symmetries.

Massive Higher Spin Fields Coupled to a Scalar: Aspects of Interaction and Causality

We consider in detail the most general cubic Lagrangian which describes an interaction between two identical higher spin fieldsin a triplet formulation with a scalar field, all fields having the same values of the mass. After performing the gauge fixing procedure we find that for the case of massive fields the gauge invariance does not guarantee the preservation of the correct number of propagating physical degrees of freedom. In order to get the correct number of degrees of freedom for the massive higher spin field one should impose some additional conditions on parameters of the vertex. Further independent constraints are provided by the causality analysis, indicating that the requirement of causality should be imposed in addition to the requirement of gauge invariance in order to have a consistent propagation of massive higher spin fields.

Current Exchanges for Reducible Higher Spin Modes on AdS

We show how to decompose a Lagrangian for reducible massless bosonic Higher Spin modes into the ones describing irreducible (Fronsdal) Higher Spin modes on a D dimensional AdS space. Using this decomposition we construct a new Nonabelian cubic interaction vertex for reducible higher spin modes and two scalars on AdS from the already known vertex which involves irreducible (Fronsdal) modes.

On the Tensionless Limit of String theory, Off - Shell Higher Spin Interaction Vertices and BCFW Recursion Relations

We construct an off-shell extension of cubic interaction vertices between massless bosonic Higher Spin fields on a flat background which can be obtained from perturbative bosonic string theory. We demonstrate how to construct higher quartic interaction vertices using a simple particular example. We examine whether BCFW recursion relations for interacting Higher Spin theories are applicable. We argue that for several interesting examples such relations should exist, but consistency of the theories might require that we supplement Higher Spin field theories with extended and possibly non-local objects.

Spinor-Vector Duality in Heterotic String Orbifolds

The three generation heterotic-string models in the free fermionic formulation are among the most realistic string vacua constructed to date, which motivated their detailed investigation. The classification of free fermion heterotic string vacua has revealed a duality under the exchange of spinor and vector representations of the SO(10) GUT symmetry over the space of models. We demonstrate the existence of the spinor-vector duality using orbifold techniques, and elaborate on the relation of these vacua to free fermionic models.

Current Exchanges for Reducible Higher Spin Multiplets and Gauge Fixing

We compute the current exchanges between triplets of higher spin fields which describe reducible representations of the Poincare group. Through this computation we can extract the propagator of the reducible higher spin fields which compose the triplet. We show how to decompose the triplet fields into irreducible HS fields which obey Fronsdal equations, and how to compute the current-current interaction for the cubic couplings which appear in ArXiv:0708.1399 [hep-th] using the decomposition into irreducible modes. We compare this result with the same computation using a gauge fixed (Feynman) version of the triplet Lagrangian which allows us to write very simple HS propagators for the triplet fields.

On higher spins and the tensionless limit of String Theory

We discuss string spectra in the low-tension limit using the BRST formalism, with emphasis on the role of triplets of totally symmetric tensors and spinor-tensors and their generalizations to cases with mixed symmetry and to (A)dS backgrounds. We also present simple compensator forms of the field equations for individual higher-spin gauge fields that display the {unconstrained} gauge symmetry of a previous non-local construction and reduce upon partial gauge fixing to the (Fang-)Fronsdal equations. For Bose fields we also show how a local Lagrangian formulation with {unconstrained} gauge symmetry is determined by a previous BRST construction.

On the n=4 Supersymmetry for the FRW Model

In this work we have constructed the n=4 extended local conformal time supersymmetry for the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) cosmological models. This is based on the superfield construction of the action, which is invariant under wordline local n=4 supersymmetry with $SU(2)_{local} \otimes SU(2)_{global}$ internal symmetry. It is shown that the supersymmetric action has the form of the localized (or superconformal) version of the action for n=4 supersymmetric quantum mechanics. This superfield procedure provides a well defined scheme for including supermatter.

A note on quantum Bohlin transformation

It is shown, that the reduction of the circular quantum oscillator by the $Z_2$-group action results to the two systems: a two-dimensional hydrogen atom, and a ``charge - charged magnetic vortex" one, with the spin $\frac 12$. Analogously, the $Z_N$-reduction of the two-dimensional system with the central potential $r^{2(N-1)}$ results into $N$ bound ``charge - magnetic vertex" systems with the interaction potential $r^{2(1/N-1)}$ and spins $σ=\frac kN$, $k =0,1,..., (N-1)$.
