Allen: A high level trigger on GPUs for LHCb

We describe a fully GPU-based implementation of the first level trigger for the upgrade of the LHCb detector, due to start data taking in 2021. We demonstrate that our implementation, named Allen, can process the 40 Tbit/s data rate of the upgraded LHCb detector and perform a wide variety of pattern recognition tasks. These include finding the trajectories of charged particles, finding proton-proton collision points, identifying particles as hadrons or muons, and finding the displaced decay vertices of long-lived particles. We further demonstrate that Allen can be implemented in around 500 scientific or consumer GPU cards, that it is not I/O bound, and can be operated at the full LHC collision rate of 30 MHz. Allen is the first complete high-throughput GPU trigger proposed for a HEP experiment.

Brazilian Participation in the Next-Generation Collider Experiments

This proposal concerns the participation of the Brazilian High-Energy Physics community in the next-generation collider experiments. As the LHC at CERN is getting ready for its third data-taking period, Run 3, with increased centre-of-mass energy at the nominal 14 TeV and upgraded detectors, the global High-Energy Physics community is converging towards the materialisation of new powerful colliders which could explore the characteristics of the Higgs boson and advance the search of physics beyond the Standard Model. This means that in the next couple of years the technical proposals for the experiments that will run in such colliders will be submitted for review, collaborations will be formed and large scale funding will be requested at different stages across the globe. Our aim is to organise a common effort from the Brazilian HEP community of optimised resources and time, in order to produce a higher impact contribution to our chosen experiment and more broadly in the field of High-Energy Physics.

Inclusive gauge boson production in the color dipole formalism

The inclusive production of the gauge bosons $W^{\pm}$ and $Z^0$ is studied within the color dipole formalism. Gluon saturation effects associated to non-linear corrections to the QCD dynamics, which are expected to contribute at high energies, are naturally included in such formalism. We estimate the contribution of these effects at LHC energies and compare our results with the next-to-next-to-leading order collinear predictions. A comparison with the current experimental data is performed and predictions for higher energies are presented.

Hybrid Pomeron Model of exclusive central diffractive production

Central diffractive production of heavy states (massive dijets, Higgs boson) is studied in the exclusive mode using a new Hybrid Pomeron Model (HPM). Built from Hybrid Pomerons defined by the combination of one hard and one soft color exchanges, the model describes well the centrally produced diffractive dijet data at the Tevatron. Predictions for the Higgs boson and dijet exclusive production at the LHC are presented.
