A classification of one dimensional affine rank three graphs

The rank three subgroups of a one-dimensional affine group over a finite field were classified in 1978 by Foulser and Kallaher. Although one can use their results for a classification of corresponding rank three graphs, the author did not find such a classification in a literature. The goal of this note is to present such a classification. It turned out that graph classification is much simpler than the group one. More precisely, it is shown that the graphs in the title are either the Paley graphs or one of the graphs constructed by Van Lint and Schrijver or by Peisert. Our approach is based on elementary group theory and does not use the classification of rank three affine groups.

On quasi-thin association schemes

An association scheme is called quasi-thin if the valency of each its basic relation is one or two. A quasi-thin scheme is Kleinian if the thin residue of it forms a Klein group with respect to the relation product. It is proved that any Kleinian scheme arises from near-pencil on~$3$ points, or affine or projective plane of order~$2$. The main result is that any non-Kleinian quasi-thin scheme a) is the two-orbit scheme of a suitable permutation group, and b) is characterized up to isomorphism by its intersection number array. An infinite family of Kleinian quasi-thin schemes for which neither a) nor b) holds is also constructed.

Jordan-Holder theorem for imprimitivity systems and maximal decompositions of rational functions

In this paper we prove several results about the lattice of imprimitivity systems of a permutation group containing a cyclic subgroup with at most two orbits. As an application we generalize the first Ritt theorem about functional decompositions of polynomials, and some other related results. Besides, we discuss examples of rational functions, related to finite subgroups of the automorphism group of the sphere for which the first Ritt theorem fails to be true.
