Measurement of the Q^2 Dependence of the Deuteron Spin Structure Function g_1 and its Moments at Low Q^2 with CLAS

We measured the g1g_1 spin structure function of the deuteron at low Q2Q^{2}, where QCD can be approximated with chiral perturbation theory (χχPT). The data cover the resonance region, up to an invariant mass of W≈1.9W\approx1.9~GeV. The generalized Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn sum, the moment Γˉ1d\barΓ_{1}^{d} and the integral Iˉγd\bar{I}_γ^d related to the spin polarizability γ0dγ_{0}^{d} are precisely determined down to a minimum Q2Q^2 of 0.02~GeV2^2 for the first time, about 2.5 times lower than that of previous data. We compare them to several χχPT calculations and models. These results are the first in a program of benchmark measurements of polarization observables in the χχPT domain.

Multidimensional, high precision measurements of beam single spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive π+π^{+} electroproduction off protons in the valence region

High precision measurements of the polarized electron beam-spin asymmetry in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) from the proton have been performed using a 10.6~GeV incident electron beam and the CLAS12 spectrometer at Jefferson Lab. We report here a high precision multidimensional study of single π+π^{+} SIDIS data over a large kinematic range in Bjorken x, fractional energy and transverse momentum of the hadron as well as photon virtualities Q2Q^{2} ranging from 1−7 1-7\,GeV2^{2}. In particular, the structure function ratio FLUsin⁡ϕ/FUUF^{\sinϕ}_{LU}/F_{UU} has been determined, where FLUsin⁡ϕF^{\sinϕ}_{LU} is a twist-3 quantity that can reveal novel aspects of emergent hadron mass and quark-gluon correlations within the nucleon. The data's impact on the evolving understanding of the underlying reaction mechanisms and their kinematic variation is explored using theoretical models for the different contributing transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions.

Multiwavelength Study of High-Redshift Blazars

High-redshift blazars are among the most powerful objects in the Universe. The spectral and temporal properties of thirty-three distant blazars (z>2.5z>2.5) detected in the high energy γγ-ray band are investigated by analyzing the {\it Fermi}-LAT and {\it Swift} UVOT/ XRT data. The considered sources have soft time averaged γγ-ray spectra (Γγ≥2.2Γ_{\rm γ}\geq2.2) whereas those that have been observed in the X-ray band have hard X-ray spectra (ΓX=1.01−1.86Γ_{\rm X}=1.01-1.86). The γγ-ray flux of high-redshift blazars ranges from 4.84×10−104.84\times10^{-10} to 1.50×10−7 photon cm−2 s−11.50\times10^{-7}\:{\rm photon\:cm^{-2}\:s^{-1}} and the luminosity is within (0.10−5.54)×1048 erg s−1(0.10-5.54)\times10^{48}\:{\rm erg\:s^{-1}} which during the γγ-ray flares increases up to (0.1−1)×1050 erg s−1(0.1-1)\times10^{50}\:{\rm erg\:s^{-1}}. In the X-ray band, only the emission of PKS 0438-43, B2 0743+25 and TXS 0222+185 is found to vary in different Swift XRT observations whereas in the γγ-ray band, the emission is variable for fourteen sources: the flux of B3 1343+451 and PKS 0537-286 changes in sub-day scales, that of PKS 0347-211 and PKS 0451-28 in day scales, while theγγ-ray variability of the others is in week or month scales. The properties of distant blazar jets are derived by modeling the multiwavelength spectral energy distributions within a one-zone leptonic scenario assuming that the X-ray and γγ-ray emissions are produced from inverse Compton scattering of synchrotron and dusty torus photons. From the fitting, the emission region size is found to be ≤0.05\leq0.05 pc and the magnetic field and the Doppler factor are correspondingly within 0.10−1.740.10-1.74 G and 10.0−27.410.0-27.4. By modeling the optical-UV excess, we found that the central black hole masses and accretion disk luminosities are within Ld≃(1.09−10.94)×1046 erg s−1L_{\rm d}\simeq(1.09-10.94)\times10^{46}\:{\rm erg \: s^{-1}} and (1.69−5.35)×109 M⊙(1.69-5.35)\times10^{9}\:M_\odot, respectively.

Photoproduction of ηη mesons off the proton for 1.2<Eγ<4.71.2 < E_γ< 4.7 GeV using CLAS at Jefferson Laboratory

Photoproduction cross sections are reported for the reaction γp→pηγp\to pη using energy-tagged photons and the CLAS spectrometer at Jefferson Laboratory. The ηη mesons are detected in their dominant charged decay mode, η→π+π−π0η\to π^+π^-π^0, and results on differential cross sections are presented for incident photon energies between 1.2 and 4.7 GeV. These new ηη photoproduction data are consistent with earlier CLAS results but extend the energy range beyond the nucleon resonance region into the Regge regime. The normalized angular distributions are also compared with the experimental results from several other experiments, and with predictions of ηη MAID\,2018 and the latest solution of the Bonn-Gatchina coupled-channel analysis. Differential cross sections dσ/dtdσ/dt are presented for incident photon energies Eγ>2.9E_γ> 2.9 GeV (W>2.5W > 2.5 GeV), and compared with predictions which are based on Regge trajectories exchange in the tt-channel (Regge models). The data confirm the expected dominance of ρρ, ωω vector-meson exchange in an analysis by the Joint Physics Analysis Center.

Probing few-body nuclear dynamics via 3H and 3He (e,e'p)pn cross-section measurements

We report the first measurement of the \eep three-body breakup reaction cross sections in helium-3 (3^3He) and tritium (3^3H) at large momentum transfer (⟨Q2⟩≈1.9\langle Q^2 \rangle \approx 1.9 (GeV/c)2^2) and xB>1x_B>1 kinematics, where the cross section should be sensitive to quasielastic (QE) scattering from single nucleons. The data cover missing momenta 40≤pmiss≤50040 \le p_{miss} \le 500 MeV/c that, in the QE limit with no rescattering, equals the initial momentum of the probed nucleon. The measured cross sections are compared with state-of-the-art ab-initio calculations. Overall good agreement, within ±20%\pm20\%, is observed between data and calculations for the full pmissp_{miss} range for 3^3H and for 100≤pmiss≤350100 \le p_{miss} \le 350 MeV/c for 3^3He. Including the effects of rescattering of the outgoing nucleon improves agreement with the data at pmiss>250p_{miss} > 250 MeV/c and suggests contributions from charge-exchange (SCX) rescattering. The isoscalar sum of 3^3He plus 3^3H, which is largely insensitive to SCX, is described by calculations to within the accuracy of the data over the entire pmissp_{miss} range. This validates current models of the ground state of the three-nucleon system up to very high initial nucleon momenta of 500500 MeV/c.
