Decomposition of Jacobian varieties of curves with dihedral actions via equisymmetric stratification

Given a compact Riemann surface XX with an action of a finite group GG, the group algebra Q[G] provides an isogenous decomposition of its Jacobian variety JXJX, known as the group algebra decomposition of JXJX. We consider the set of equisymmetric Riemann surfaces M(2n−1,D2n,θ)\mathcal{M}(2n-1, D_{2n}, θ) for all n≥2n\geq 2. We study the group algebra decomposition of the Jacobian JXJX of every curve X∈M(2n−1,D2n,θ)X\in \mathcal{M}(2n-1, D_{2n},θ) for all admissible actions, and we provide affine models for them. We use the topological equivalence of actions on the curves to obtain facts regarding its Jacobians. We describe some of the factors of JXJX as Jacobian (or Prym) varieties of intermediate coverings. Finally, we compute the dimension of the corresponding Shimura domains.

On Riemann Surfaces of genus g with 4g automorphisms

We determine, for all genus g≥2g\geq2 the Riemann surfaces of genus gg with 4g4g automorphisms. For g≠g\neq 3,6,12,153,6,12,15 or 3030, this surfaces form a real Riemann surface Fg\mathcal{F}_{g} in the moduli space Mg\mathcal{M}_{g}: the Riemann sphere with three punctures. The set of real Riemann surfaces in Fg\mathcal{F}_{g} consists of three intervals its closure in the Deligne-Mumford compactification of Mg\mathcal{M}_{g} is a closed Jordan curve.

Correlation-driven charge and spin fluctuations in LaCoO3_3

The spin transition in LaCoO3_3 has been investigated within the density-functional theory + dynamical mean-field theory formalism using continuous time quantum Monte Carlo. Calculations on the experimental rhombohedral atomic structure with two Co sites per unit cell show that an independent treatment of the Co atoms results in a ground state with strong charge fluctuations induced by electronic correlations. Each atom shows a contribution from either a d5d^5 or a d7d^7 state in addition to the main d6d^6 state. These states play a relevant role in the spin transition which can be understood as a low spin-high spin (LS-HS) transition with significant contributions (∼\sim 1010 %) to the LS and HS states of d5d^5 and d7d^7 states respectively. A thermodynamic analysis reveals a significant kinetic energy gain through introduction of charge fluctuations, which in addition to the potential energy reduction lowers the total energy of the system.

On the fixed-point set of automorphisms of non-orientable surfaces without boundary

Macbeath gave a formula for the number of fixed points for each non-identity element of a cyclic group of automorphisms of a compact Riemann surface in terms of the universal covering transformation group of the cyclic group. We observe that this formula generalizes to determine the fixed-point set of each non-identity element of a cyclic group of automorphisms acting on a closed non-orientable surface with one exception; namely, when this element has order 2. In this case the fixed-point set may have simple closed curves (called ovals) as well as fixed points. In this note we extend Macbeath's results to include the number of ovals and also determine whether they are twisted or not.
