Seiberg-Witten Map with Lorentz-Invariance and Gauge-Covariant Star Product

We develop the Seiberg-Witten map using the gauge-covariant star product with the noncommutativity tensor $θ^{μν}(x)$. The latter guarantees the Lorentz invariance of the theory. The usual form of this map and its other recent generalizations do not consider such a covariant star product. We construct the Seiberg-Witten map for the gauge parameter, the gauge field and the strength tensor to the first order in the noncommutativity parameter $θ^{μν}(x)$. Prescription for the generalization of the map to higher orders is also given. Interestingly, the associativity of the covariant star product both in the first and second orders requires the same constraints, namely, on the $θ^{μν}(x)$ and on the space-time connection. This fact suggests that the same constraints could be enough to ensure the associativity in all orders. The resulting Seiberg-Witten map applies both to the internal and space-time gauge theories. Comparisons with the Seiberg-Witten map based on other (non-covariant) star products are given and some characteristic properties are also presented. As an application, we consider the $GL(2, C)$ noncommutative gauge theory of gravitation, in which it is shown that the connection determines a space-time with symplectic structure (as proposed by Zumino et al [AIP Conf. Proc. 1200 (2010), 204, arXiv:0910.0459]). This example shows that the constraints required for the associativity of the gauge-covariant star product can be satisfied. The presented $GL(2, C)$ noncommutative gauge theory of gravitation is also compared to the one (given by Chamseddine [Phys. Rev. D 69 (2004), 024015, hep-th/0309166]) with non-covariant star product.

Partition functions for supersymmetric gauge theories on spheres

In this paper we briefly review the main idea of the localization technique and its extension suitable in supersymmetric gauge field theory. We analyze the partition function of the vector multiplets with supercharges and its blocks on the even- and odd-dimensional spheres and squashed spheres. We exploit so-called Faà di Bruno's formula and show that multipartite partition functions can be written in the form of expansion series of the Bell polynomials. Applying the restricted specialization argument we show that $q$-infinite-product representation of partition functions admits presentation in terms of the Patterson-Selberg (or the Ruelle-type) spectral functions.

Elliptic Genera and q-Series Development in Analysis, String Theory, and N=2 Superconformal Field Theory

In this article we examine the Ruelle type spectral functions $\cR(s)$,which define an overall description of the content of the work. We investigate the Gopakumar-Vafa reformulation of the string partition functions, describe the N=2 Landau-Ginzburg model in terms of Ruelle type spectral functions. Furthermore, we discuss the basic properties satisfied by elliptic genera in N=2 theories, construct the functional equations for $\cR(s)$, and analyze the modular transformation laws for the elliptic genus of the Landau-Ginzburg model and study their properties in details.

Towards an Axiomatic Formulation of Noncommutative Quantum Field Theory. II

Classical results of the axiomatic quantum field theory, namely the irreducibility of the set of field operators, Reeh and Schlieder's theorems and generalized Haag's theorem, are proven in $SO(1,1)$ invariant quantum field theory, of which an important example is noncommutative quantum field theory. New consequences of generalized Haag's theorem are obtained in $SO(1,3)$ invariant theories. It has been proven that the equality of four-point Wightman functions in two theories leads to the equality of elastic scattering amplitudes and thus the total cross-sections in these theories.

$S$-Functions, Spectral Functions of Hyperbolic Geometry, and Vertex Operators with Applications to Structure for Weyl and Orthogonal Group Invariants

In this paper we analyze the quantum homological invariants (the Poincaré polynomials of the $\mathfrak{sl}_N$ link homology). In the case when the dimensions of homologies of appropriate topological spaces are precisely known, the procedure of the calculation of the Kovanov-Rozansky type homology, based on the Euler-Poincaré formula can be appreciably simplified. We express the formal character of the irreducible tensor representation of the classical groups in terms of the symmetric and spectral functions of hyperbolic geometry. On the basis of Labastida-Mariño-Ooguri-Vafa conjecture, we derive a representation of the Chern-Simons partition function in the form of an infinite product in terms of the Ruelle spectral functions (the cases of a knot, unknot, and links have been considered). We also derive an infinite-product formula for the orthogonal Chern-Simons partition functions and analyze the singularities and the symmetry properties of the infinite-product structures.

Restricted f(R) Gravity and Its Cosmological Implications

We investigate the f(R) theory of gravity with broken diffeomorphism due to the change of the coefficient in front of the total divergence term in the (3+1)-decomposition of the scalar curvature. We perform the canonical analysis of this theory and show that its consistent, i.e. with no unphysical degrees of freedom, form is equivalent to the low-energy limit of the non-projectable f(R) Horava-Lifshitz theory of gravity. We also analyze its cosmological solutions and show that the de Sitter solution can be obtained also in the case of this broken symmetry. The consequences of the proposed theory on the asymptotic solutions of a few specific models in the cosmological context are also presented.

Elliptic Genera and Characteristic $q$-Series of Superconformal Field Theory

We analyze the characteristic series, the $KO$ series and the series associated with the Witten genus, and their analytic forms as the $q$-analogs of classical special functions (in particular $q$-analog of the beta integral and the gamma function). $q$-series admit an analytic interpretation in terms of the spectral Ruelle functions, and their relations to appropriate elliptic modular forms can be described. We show that there is a deep correspondence between the characteristic series of the Witten genus and $KO$ characteristic series, on one side, and the denominator identities and characters of $N=2$ superconformal algebras, and the affine Lie (super)algebras on the other. We represent the characteristic series in the form of double series using the Hecke-Rogers modular identity.

D-Branes on Spaces Stratified Fibered Over Hyperbolic Orbifolds

We apply the methods of homology and K-theory for branes wrapping spaces stratified fibered over hyperbolic orbifolds. In addition, we discuss the algebraic K-theory of any discrete co-compact Lie group in terms of appropriate homology and Atiyah-Hirzebruch type spectral sequence with its non-trivial lift to K-homology. We emphasize the fact that the physical D-branes properties are completely transparent within the mathematical framework of K-theory. We derive criteria for D-brane stability in the case of strongly virtually negatively curved groups. We show that branes wrapping spaces stratified fibered over hyperbolic orbifolds carry charge structure and change the additive structural properties in K-homology.

BRST-Invariant Deformations of Geometric Structures in Topological Field Theories

We study a Lie algebra of formal vector fields $W_n$ with its application to the perturbative deformed holomorphic symplectic structure in the A-model, and a Calabi-Yau manifold with boundaries in the B-model. A relevant concept in the vertex operator algebra and the BRST cohomology is that of the elliptic genera (the one-loop string partition function). We show that the elliptic genera can be written in terms of spectral functions of the hyperbolic three-geometry (which inherits the cohomology structure of BRST-like operator). We show that equivalence classes of deformations are described by a Hochschild cohomology theory of the DG-algebra ${\mathfrak A} = (A, Q)$, $Q =\bar{\partial}+\partial_{\rm deform}$, which is defined to be the cohomology of $(-1)^n Q +d_{\rm Hoch}$. Here $\bar{\partial}$ is the initial non-deformed BRST operator while $\partial_{\rm deform}$ is the deformed part whose algebra is a Lie algebra of linear vector fields ${\rm gl}_n$. We discuss the identification of the harmonic structure $(HT^\bullet(X); HΩ_\bullet(X))$ of affine space $X$ and the group ${\rm Ext}_{X}^n({\cal O}_{\triangle}, {\cal O}_{\triangle})$ (the HKR isomorphism), and bulk-boundary deformation pairing.

Quantum Black Holes, Elliptic Genera and Spectral Partition Functions

We study M-theory and D-brane quantum partition functions for microscopic black hole ensembles within the context of the AdS/CFT correspondence in terms of highest weight representations of infinite-dimensional Lie algebras, elliptic genera, and Hilbert schemes, and describe their relations to elliptic modular forms. The common feature in our examples lie in the modular properties of the characters of certain representations of the pertinent affine Lie algebras, and in the role of spectral functions of hyperbolic three-geometry associated with q-series in the calculation of elliptic genera. We present new calculations of supergravity elliptic genera on local Calabi-Yau threefolds in terms of BPS invariants and spectral functions, and also of equivariant D-brane elliptic genera on generic toric singularities. We use these examples to conjecture a link between the black hole partition functions and elliptic cohomology.

Extended Poincaré supersymmetry in three dimensions and supersymmetric anyons

We classify the unitary representations of the extended Poincaré supergroups in three dimensions. Irreducible unitary representations of any spin can appear, which correspond to supersymmetric anyons. Our results also show that all irreducible unitary representations necessarily have physical momenta. This is in sharp contrast to the ordinary Poincaré group in three dimensions, that admits in addition irreducible unitary representations with non-physical momenta, which are discarded on physical grounds.

Thermal Casimir-Polder interaction of different atoms with graphene

The thermal correction to the energy of Casimir-Polder interaction of atoms with a suspended graphene membrane described by the Dirac model is investigated. We show that a major impact on the thermal correction is made by the size of the gap in the energy spectrum of graphene quasiparticles. Specifically, if the temperature is much smaller than the gap parameter (alternatively, larger or of the order of the gap parameter), the thermal correction is shown to be relatively small (alternatively, large). We have calculated the free energy of the thermal Casimir-Polder interaction of atoms of He, Na, Rb, and Cs with graphene described by both the hydrodynamic and Dirac models. It is shown that in exact computations using the Dirac model, one should use the polarization operator at nonzero temperature. The computational results for the Casimir-Polder free energy obtained in the framework of hydrodynamic model of graphene are several times larger than in the Dirac model within the separation region below 2$μ$m. We conclude that the theoretical predictions following from the two models can be reliably discriminated in experiments on quantum reflection of different atoms on graphene.

Towards an Axiomatic Formulation of Noncommutative Quantum Field Theory

We propose new Wightman functions as vacuum expectation values of products of field operators in the noncommutative space-time. These Wightman functions involve the $\star$-product among the fields, compatible with the twisted Poincaré symmetry of the noncommutative quantum field theory (NC QFT). In the case of only space-space noncommutativity ($θ_{0i}=0$), we prove the CPT theorem using the noncommutative form of the Wightman functions. We also show that the spin-statistics theorem, demonstrated for the simplest case of a scalar field, holds in NC QFT within this formalism.

Covariant star product on symplectic and Poisson spacetime manifolds

A covariant Poisson bracket and an associated covariant star product in the sense of deformation quantization are defined on the algebra of tensor-valued differential forms on a symplectic manifold, as a generalization of similar structures that were recently defined on the algebra of (scalar-valued) differential forms. A covariant star product of arbitrary smooth tensor fields is obtained as a special case. Finally, we study covariant star products on a more general Poisson manifold with a linear connection, first for smooth functions and then for smooth tensor fields of any type. Some observations on possible applications of the covariant star products to gravity and gauge theory are made.

Massless Chiral Supermultiplets of Higher Spins and the $θ$-Twistor

Recently N. Berkovits, motivated by the supertwistor description of ${\cal N}=4 D=4$ super Yang-Mills, considered the generalization of the ${\cal N}=1 D=4$ $θ$-twistor construction to D=10 and applied it for a compact covariant description of ${\cal N}=1 D=10$ super Yang-Mills. This supports the relevance of the $θ$-twistor as a supersymmetric twistor alternative to the well-known supertwistor. The minimal breaking of superconformal symmetry is an inherent property of the $θ$-twistor received from its fermionic components, described by a Grassmannian vector instead of a Grassmannian scalar in the supertwistor. The $θ$-twistor description of the ${\cal N}=1 D=4$ massless chiral supermultiplets $(S, S + 1/2)$ with spins $S=0,1/2,1,3/2,2,...$ is considered here. The description permits to restore the auxiliary $F$ fields of the chiral supermultiplets absent in the supertwistor approach. The proposed formalism is naturally generalized to ${\cal N}=4 D=4 $ and can be used for an off-shell description of the corresponding super Yang-Mills theory.

Noncommutative gauge theory using covariant star product defined between Lie-valued differential forms

We develop an internal gauge theory using a covariant star product. The space-time is a symplectic manifold endowed only with torsion but no curvature. It is shown that, in order to assure the restrictions imposed by the associativity property of the star product, the torsion of the space-time has to be covariant constant. An illustrative example is given and it is concluded that in this case the conditions necessary to define a covariant star product on a symplectic manifold completely determine its connection.

Solution of the Stochastic Langevin Equations for Clustering of Particles in Turbulent Flows in Terms of Wiener Path Integral

We propose to take advantage of using the Wiener path integrals as the formal solution for the joint probability densities of coupled Langevin equations describing particles suspended in a fluid under the effect of viscous and random forces. Our obtained formal solution, giving the expression for the Lyapunov exponent, i) will provide the description of all the features and the behaviour of such a system, e.g. the aggregation phenomenon recently studied in the literature using appropriate approximations, ii) can be used to determine the occurrence and the nature of the aggregation - non-aggregation phase transition which we have shown for the one-dimensional case and iii) allows the use of a variety of approximative methods appropriate for the physical conditions of the problem such as instanton solutions in the WKB approximation in the aggregation phase for the one-dimensional case as presented in this paper. The use of instanton approximation gives the same result for the Lyapunov exponent in the aggregation phase, previously obtained by other authors using a different approximative method. The case of non-aggregation is also considered in a certain approximation using the general path integral expression for the one-dimensional case.

Can Seiberg-Witten Map Bypass Noncommutative Gauge Theory No-Go Theorem?

There are strong restrictions on the possible representations and in general on the matter content of gauge theories formulated on noncommutative Moyal spaces, termed as noncommutative gauge theory no-go theorem. According to the no-go theorem \cite{no-go}, matter fields in the noncommutative U(1) gauge theory can only have $\pm 1$ or zero charges and for a generic noncommutative $\prod_{i=1}^n U(N_i)$ gauge theory matter fields can be charged under at most two of the $U(N_i)$ gauge group factors. On the other hand, it has been argued in the literature that, since a noncommutative U(N) gauge theory can be mapped to an ordinary U(N) gauge theory via the Seiberg-Witten map, seemingly it can bypass the no-go theorem. In this note we show that the Seiberg-Witten map \cite{SW} can only be consistently defined and used for the gauge theories which respect the no-go theorem. We discuss the implications of these arguments for the particle physics model building on noncommutative space.

Searching for the triplet Higgs sector via central exclusive production at the LHC

We discuss the prospects of searching for the neutral Higgs bosons of the triplet model in central exclusive production at the LHC. A detailed Monte Carlo analysis is presented for six benchmark scenarios for the Higgs boson, $H_1^{0}$, these cover $m_{H_1^0}=$~120, 150 GeV and doublet-triplet mixing of $c_H=$~0.2, 0.5 or 0.8. We find that, for appropriate values of $c_H$, an excellent Higgs mass measurement is possible for the neutral Higgs in the triplet model, and discuss how to distinguish the triplet model Higgs boson from the Higgs boson of the Standard Model.

Noncommutative Quantum Field Theory: A Confrontation of Symmetries

The concept of a noncommutative field is formulated based on the interplay between twisted Poincaré symmetry and residual symmetry of the Lorentz group. Various general dynamical results supporting this construction, such as the light-wedge causality condition and the integrability condition for Tomonaga-Schwinger equation, are presented. Based on this analysis, the claim of the identity between commutative QFT and noncommutative QFT with twisted Poincaré symmetry is refuted.

Analyticity and Forward Dispersion Relations in Noncommutative Quantum Field Theory

We derive the analytical properties of the elastic forward scattering amplitude of two scalar particles from the axioms of the noncommutative quantum field theory. For the case of only space-space noncommutativity, i.e. $θ_{0i}=0$, we prove the dispersion relation which is similar to the one in commutative quantum field theory. The proof in this case is based on the existence of the analog of the usual microcausality condition and uses the Lehmann-Symanzik-Zimmermann (LSZ) or equivalently the Bogoliubov-Medvedev-Polivanov (BMP) reduction formalisms. The existence of the latter formalisms is also shown. We remark on the general noncommutative case, $θ_{0i}\neq0$, as well as on the nonforward scattering amplitude and mention their peculiarities.

Noncommutative Standard Model: Model Building

A noncommutative version of the usual electro-weak theory is constructed. We discuss how to overcome the two major problems: 1) although we can have noncommutative U(n) (which we denote by $U_{\star}(n)$) gauge theory we cannot have noncommutative SU(n) and 2) the charges in noncommutative QED are quantized to just $0, \pm 1$. We show how the problem with charge quantization, as well as with the gauge group, can be resolved by taking $U_{\star}(3)\times U_{\star}(2)\times U_{\star}(1)$ gauge group and reducing the extra U(1) factors in an appropriate way. Then we proceed with building the noncommutative version of the standard model by specifying the proper representations for the entire particle content of the theory, the gauge bosons, the fermions and Higgs. We also present the full action for the noncommutative Standard Model (NCSM). In addition, among several peculiar features of our model, we address the {\it inherent} CP violation and new neutrino interactions.

The Holographic Supercurrent Anomaly

The γ-trace anomaly of supersymmetry current in a supersymmetric gauge theory shares a superconformal anomaly multiplet with the chiral R-symmetry anomaly and the Weyl anomaly, and its holographic reproduction is a valuable test to the AdS/CFT correspondence conjecture. We investigate how the γ-trace anomaly of the supersymmetry current of {\cal N}=1 four-dimensional supersymmetric gauge theory in an {\cal N}=1 conformal supergravity background can be extracted out from the ${\cal N}=2$ gauged supergravity in five dimensions. It is shown that the reproduction of this super-Weyl anomaly originates from the following two facts: First the {\cal N}=2 bulk supersymmetry transformation converts into {\cal N}=1 superconformal transformation on the boundary, which consists of {\cal N}=1 supersymmetry transformation and special conformal supersymmetry (or super-Weyl) transformation; second the supersymmetry variation of the bulk action of five-dimensional gauged supergravity is a total derivative. The non-compatibility of supersymmetry and the super-Weyl transformation invariance yields the holographic supersymmetry current anomaly. Furthermore, we speculate on that the contribution from the external gauge and gravitational background fields to the superconformal anomaly may have different holographic origin.

Renormalization Constant of the Color Gauge Field as a Probe of Confinement

The mechanism of color confinement as a consequence of an unbroken non-abelian gauge symmetry and asymptotic freedom is elucidated and compared with that of other models based on an analogy with the type II superconductor. It is demonstrated that a sufficient condition for color confinement is given by $Z_3^{-1}=0$ where $Z_3$ denotes the renormalization constant of the color gauge field. It is shown that this condition is actually satisfied in quantum chromodynamics and that some of the characteristic features of other models follow from it.

New Superconformal Field Theories in Four Dimensions and N=1 Duality

Recently, developments in the understanding of low-energy N=1 supersymmetric gauge theory have revealed two important phenomena: the appearance of new four-dimensional superconformal field theories and a non-Abelian generalization of electric-magnetic duality at the IR fixed point. This report is a pedagogical introduction to these phenomena. After presenting some necessary background material, a detailed introduction to the low-energy non-perturbative dynamics of N=1 supersymmetric $SU(N_c)$ QCD is given. The emergence of new four-dimensional superconformal field theories and non-Abelian duality is explained. New non-perturbative phenomena in supersymmetric $SO(N_c)$ and $Sp(N_c=2n_c)$ gauge theories, such as the two inequivalent branches, oblique confinement and electric-magnetic-dyonic triality, are presented. Finally, some new features of these four-dimensional superconformal field theories are exhibited: the universal operator product expansion, evidence for a possible $c$-theorem in four dimensions and the critical behaviour of anomalous currents. The concluding remarks contain a brief history of electric-magnetic duality and a discussion on the possible applications of duality to ordinary QCD.

R-parity violation in $(t+\bar t)\tilde g$ production at LHC and Tevatron

We study the production of $(t+\bar{t}) \tilde{g}$ at the hadron colliders in an R-parity ($R_{p}$) violating supersymmetric model. This process provides us with information not only about $R_{p}$ violation, but may also help us in detecting the supersymmetry itself. It is possible to detect an $R_{p}$ violating signal (with single gluino production) at the future hadron colliders, such as Fermilab Tevatron Run II or CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), if the parameters in the supersymmetric $\rlap/ R_{p}$ interactions are not too small, e.g. for $m_{\tilde{g}}=1$ TeV, $λ^{''}=0.1$, still hundreds of events are produced at LHC with luminosity $30 fb^{-1}$. Even if we could not detect a signal of $ \rlap/R_{p}$ in the experiment, we get stringent constraints on the heavy flavour $\rlap/R_{p}$ couplings. In addition to the minimal supersymmetric standard model we have also considered some models with a heavy gluino as the lightest supersymmetric particle.

On Quantum Corrections to Chern-Simons Spinor Electrodynamics

We make a detailed investigation on the quantum corrections to Chern-Simons spinor electrodynamics. Starting from Chern-Simons spinor quantum electrodynamics with the Maxwell term $-1/(4γ){\int}d^3x F_{μν}F^{μν}$ and by calculating the vacuum polarization tensor, electron self-energy and on-shell vertex, we explicitly show that the Ward identity is satisfied and hence verify that the physical quantities are independent of the procedure of taking $γ{\to}{\infty}$ at one-loop and tree levels. In particular, we find the three-dimensional analogue of the Schwinger anomalous magnetic moment term of the electron produced from the quantum corrections.

$q$-Virasoro Algebra and the Point-Splitting

It is shown that a particular $q$-deformation of the Virasoro algebra can be interpreted in terms of the $q$-local field $Φ(x)$ and the Schwinger-like point-splitted Virasoro currents, quadratic in $Φ(x)$. The $q$-deformed Virasoro algebra possesses an additional index $α$, which is directly related to point-splitting of the currents. The generators in the $q$-deformed case are found to exactly reproduce the results obtained by probing the fields $X(z)$ (string coordinate) and $Φ(z)$ (string momentum) with the non-splitted Virasoro generators and lead to a particular representation of the $SU_q (1,1)$ algebra characterized by the standard conformal dimension $J$ of the field. Some remarks concerning the $q$-vertex operator for the interacting $q$-string theory are made.

Spinning Relativistic Particle in an External Electromagnetic Field

The Hamiltonian formulation of the motion of a spinning relativistic particle in an external electromagnetic field is considered. The approach is based on the introduction of new coordinates and their conjugated momenta to describe the spin degrees of freedom together with an appropriate set of constraints in the Dirac formulation. For particles with gyromagnetic ratio $g=2$, the equations of motion do not predict any deviation from the standard Lorentz force, while for $g \neq 2$ an additional force, which corresponds to the magnetic dipole force, is obtained.

New Phenomenon of Nonlinear Regge Trajectory and Quantum Dual String Theory

The relation between the spin and the mass of an infinite number of particles in a $q$-deformed dual string theory is studied. For the deformation parameter $q$ a root of unity, in addition to the relation of such values of $q$ with the rational conformal field theory, the Fock space of each oscillator mode in the Fubini-Veneziano operator formulation becomes truncated. Thus, based on general physical grounds, the resulting spin-(mass)$^2$ relation is expected to be below the usual linear trajectory. For such specific values of $q$, we find that the linear Regge trajectory turns into a square-root trajectory as the mass increases.
