Optimizing the potential of KM3NeT in detecting core-collapse supernovae

Core-collapse supernovae mark the end of life of massive stars. However, despite their importance in astrophysics, their underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Neutrinos that emerge from the dense core of the star offer a promising way to study supernova dynamics. A strategy is presented to improve the potential of the KM3NeT neutrino telescope to detect core-collapse supernovae in our Galaxy or the Large Magellanic Cloud by further exploiting the properties of its optical modules equipped with multiple photomultipliers. A supernova burst is expected to produce a sudden hit rate increase in the KM3NeT detectors. New observables have been defined for individual optical modules that exploit the geometry and time distribution of the detected hits, enabling a better discrimination between signal and background signatures. In addition, a thorough investigation of the related systematic uncertainties is presented for the first time. When implemented, this new methodology allowed KM3NeT to probe 46% more Galactic core-collapse supernova candidates than with the previous trigger strategy, reaching the dense Galactic bulge. It is now expected that, once completed, KM3NeT will achieve full Galactic sensitivity to core-collapse supernovae.

Search for non-standard neutrino interactions with 10 years of ANTARES data

Non-standard interactions of neutrinos arising in many theories beyond the Standard Model can significantly alter matter effects in atmospheric neutrino propagation through the Earth. In this paper, a search for deviations from the prediction of the standard 3-flavour atmospheric neutrino oscillations using the data taken by the ANTARES neutrino telescope is presented. Ten years of atmospheric neutrino data collected from 2007 to 2016, with reconstructed energies in the range from $\sim$16 GeV to $100$ GeV, have been analysed. A log-likelihood ratio test of the dimensionless coefficients $\varepsilon_{μτ}$ and $\varepsilon_{ττ} - \varepsilon_{μμ}$ does not provide clear evidence of deviations from standard interactions. For normal neutrino mass ordering, the combined fit of both coefficients yields a value 1.7$σ$ away from the null result. However, the 68% and 95% confidence level intervals for $\varepsilon_{μτ}$ and $\varepsilon_{ττ} - \varepsilon_{μμ}$, respectively, contain the null value. Best fit values, one standard deviation errors and bounds at the 90% confidence level for these coefficients are given for both normal and inverted mass orderings. The constraint on $\varepsilon_{μτ}$ is among the most stringent to date and it further restrains the strength of possible non-standard interactions in the $μ- τ$ sector.

Search for secluded dark matter towards the Galactic Centre with the ANTARES neutrino telescope

Searches for dark matter (DM) have not provided any solid evidence for the existence of weakly interacting massive particles in the GeV-TeV mass range. Coincidentally, the scale of new physics is being pushed by collider searches well beyond the TeV domain. This situation strongly motivates the exploration of DM masses much larger than a TeV. Secluded scenarios contain a natural way around the unitarity bound on the DM mass, via the early matter domination induced by the mediator of its interactions with the Standard Model. High-energy neutrinos constitute one of the very few direct accesses to energy scales above a few TeV. An indirect search for secluded DM signals has been performed with the ANTARES neutrino telescope using data from 2007 to 2015. Upper limits on the DM annihilation cross section for DM masses up to 6 PeV are presented and discussed.

Search for solar atmospheric neutrinos with the ANTARES neutrino telescope

Solar Atmospheric Neutrinos (SA$ν$s) are produced by the interaction of cosmic rays with the solar medium. The detection of SA$ν$s would provide useful information on the composition of primary cosmic rays as well as the solar density. These neutrinos represent an irreducible source of background for indirect searches for dark matter towards the Sun and the measurement of their flux would allow for a better assessment of the uncertainties related to these searches. In this paper we report on the analysis performed, based on an unbinned likelihood maximisation, to search for SA$ν$s with the ANTARES neutrino telescope. After analysing the data collected over 11 years, no evidence for a solar atmospheric neutrino signal has been found. An upper limit at 90\% confidence level on the flux of solar atmospheric neutrinos has been obtained, equal to 7$\times$$10^{-11}$ [TeV$^{-1}$cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$] at E$_ν=$ 1 TeV for the reference cosmic ray model assumed.

Search for Spatial Correlations of Neutrinos with Ultra-High-Energy Cosmic Rays

For several decades, the origin of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) has been an unsolved question of high-energy astrophysics. One approach for solving this puzzle is to correlate UHECRs with high-energy neutrinos, since neutrinos are a direct probe of hadronic interactions of cosmic rays and are not deflected by magnetic fields. In this paper, we present three different approaches for correlating the arrival directions of neutrinos with the arrival directions of UHECRs. The neutrino data is provided by the IceCube Neutrino Observatory and ANTARES, while the UHECR data with energies above $\sim$50 EeV is provided by the Pierre Auger Observatory and the Telescope Array. All experiments provide increased statistics and improved reconstructions with respect to our previous results reported in 2015. The first analysis uses a high-statistics neutrino sample optimized for point-source searches to search for excesses of neutrinos clustering in the vicinity of UHECR directions. The second analysis searches for an excess of UHECRs in the direction of the highest-energy neutrinos. The third analysis searches for an excess of pairs of UHECRs and highest-energy neutrinos on different angular scales. None of the analyses has found a significant excess, and previously reported over-fluctuations are reduced in significance. Based on these results, we further constrain the neutrino flux spatially correlated with UHECRs.

Determining the Neutrino Mass Ordering and Oscillation Parameters with KM3NeT/ORCA

The next generation of water Cherenkov neutrino telescopes in the Mediterranean Sea are under construction offshore France (KM3NeT/ORCA) and Sicily (KM3NeT/ARCA). The KM3NeT/ORCA detector features an energy detection threshold which allows to collect atmospheric neutrinos to study flavour oscillation. This paper reports the KM3NeT/ORCA sensitivity to this phenomenon. The event reconstruction, selection and classification are described. The sensitivity to determine the neutrino mass ordering was evaluated and found to be 4.4 $σ$ if the true ordering is normal and 2.3 $σ$ if inverted, after three years of data taking. The precision to measure $Δm^2_{32}$ and $θ_{23}$ were also estimated and found to be $85\cdot10^{-6}$ eV$^2$ and $(^{+1.9}_{-3.1})^{\circ}$ for normal neutrino mass ordering and, $75\cdot10^{-6}$ eV$^2$ and $(^{+2.0}_{-7.0})^{\circ}$ for inverted ordering. Finally, a unitarity test of the leptonic mixing matrix by measuring the rate of tau neutrinos is described. Three years of data taking were found to be sufficient to exclude $ν_τ$ and $\barν_τ$ event rate variations larger than 20% at $3σ$ level.

Implementation and first results of the KM3NeT real-time core-collapse supernova neutrino search

The KM3NeT research infrastructure is under construction in the Mediterranean Sea. KM3NeT will study atmospheric and astrophysical neutrinos with two multi-purpose neutrino detectors, ARCA and ORCA, primarily aimed at GeV-PeV neutrinos. Thanks to the multi-photomultiplier tube design of the digital optical modules, KM3NeT is capable of detecting the neutrino burst from a Galactic or near-Galactic core-collapse supernova. This potential is already exploitable with the first detection units deployed in the sea. This paper describes the real-time implementation of the supernova neutrino search, operating on the two KM3NeT detectors since the first months of 2019. A quasi-online astronomy analysis is introduced to study the time profile of the detected neutrinos for especially significant events. The mechanism of generation and distribution of alerts, as well as the integration into the SNEWS and SNEWS 2.0 global alert systems are described. The approach for the follow-up of external alerts with a search for a neutrino excess in the archival data is defined. Finally, an overview of the current detector capabilities and a report after the first two years of operation are given.

Nanobeacon: A time calibration device for the KM3NeT neutrino telescope

The KM3NeT Collaboration is currently constructing a multi-site high-energy neutrino telescope in the Mediterranean Sea consisting of matrices of pressure-resistant glass spheres, each holding a set of 31 small-area photomultipliers. The main goals of the telescope are the observation of neutrino sources in the Universe and the measurement of the neutrino oscillation parameters with atmospheric neutrinos. Both extraterrestrial and atmospheric neutrinos are detected through the Cherenkov light induced in seawater by charged particles produced in neutrino interactions in the surrounding medium. A relative time synchronization between photomultipliers of the order of 1 ns is needed to guarantee the required angular resolution of the detector. Due to the large detector volumes to be instrumented by KM3NeT, a cost reduction of the different systems is a priority. To this end, the inexpensive Nanobeacon has been designed and developed by the KM3NeT Collaboration to be used for detector time-calibration studies. At present, more than 600 Nanobeacons have been already produced. The characterization of the optical pulse and the wavelength emission profile of the devices are critical for the time calibration. In this paper, the main features of the Nanobeacon design, production and operation, together with the main properties of the light pulse generated are described.

Search for neutrino counterparts of gravitational-wave events detected by LIGO and Virgo during run O2 with the ANTARES telescope

An offline search for a neutrino counterpart to gravitational-wave (GW) events detected during the second observation run (O2) of Advanced-LIGO and Advanced-Virgo performed with ANTARES data is presented. In addition to the search for long tracks induced by $ν_μ$ ($\barν_μ$) charged current interactions, a search for showering events induced by interactions of neutrinos of any flavour is conducted. The severe spatial and time coincidence provided by the gravitational-wave alert allows regions above the detector horizon to be probed, extending the ANTARES sensitivity over the entire sky. The results of this all-neutrino-flavour and all-sky time dependent analysis are presented. The search for prompt neutrino emission within $\pm$500~s around the time of six GW events yields no neutrino counterparts. Upper limits on the neutrino spectral fluence and constraints on the isotropic radiated energy are set for each GW event analysed.

Search for neutrinos from the tidal disruption events AT2019dsg and AT2019fdr with the ANTARES telescope

On October 1, 2019, the IceCube Collaboration detected a muon track neutrino with high probability of being of astrophysical origin, IC191001A. After a few hours, the tidal disruption event (TDE) AT2019dsg, observed by the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF), was indicated as the most likely counterpart of the IceCube track. More recently, the follow-up campaign of the IceCube alerts by ZTF suggested a second TDE, AT2019fdr, as a promising counterpart of another IceCube muon track candidate, IC200530A, detected on May 30, 2020. These are the second and third associations between astrophysical sources and high-energy neutrinos after the compelling identification of the blazar TXS 0506+056. Here, the search for ANTARES neutrinos from the directions of AT2019dsg and AT2019fdr using a time-integrated approach is presented. As no significant evidence for space clustering is found in the ANTARES data, upper limits on the one-flavour neutrino flux and fluence are set.

ANTARES and IceCube Combined Search for Neutrino Point-like and Extended Sources in the Southern Sky

A search for point-like and extended sources of cosmic neutrinos using data collected by the ANTARES and IceCube neutrino telescopes is presented. The data set consists of all the track-like and shower-like events pointing in the direction of the Southern Sky included in the nine-year ANTARES point-source analysis, combined with the through-going track-like events used in the seven-year IceCube point-source search. The advantageous field of view of ANTARES and the large size of IceCube are exploited to improve the sensitivity in the Southern Sky by a factor $\sim$2 compared to both individual analyses. In this work, the Southern Sky is scanned for possible excesses of spatial clustering, and the positions of preselected candidate sources are investigated. In addition, special focus is given to the region around the Galactic Centre, whereby a dedicated search at the location of SgrA* is performed, and to the location of the supernova remnant RXJ 1713.7-3946. No significant evidence for cosmic neutrino sources is found and upper limits on the flux from the various searches are presented.

Deep-sea deployment of the KM3NeT neutrino telescope detection units by self-unrolling

KM3NeT is a research infrastructure being installed in the deep Mediterranean Sea. It will house a neutrino telescope comprising hundreds of networked moorings - detection units or strings equipped with optical instrumentation to detect the Cherenkov radiation generated by charged particles from neutrino-induced collisions in its vicinity. In comparison to moorings typically used for oceanography, several key features of the KM3NeT string are different: the instrumentation is contained in transparent and thus unprotected glass spheres; two thin Dyneema ropes are used as strength members; and a thin delicate backbone tube with fibre-optics and copper wires for data and power transmission, respectively, runs along the full length of the mooring. Also, compared to other neutrino telescopes such as ANTARES in the Mediterranean Sea and GVD in Lake Baikal, the KM3NeT strings are more slender to minimise the amount of material used for support of the optical sensors. Moreover, the rate of deploying a large number of strings in a period of a few years is unprecedented. For all these reasons, for the installation of the KM3NeT strings, a custom-made, fast deployment method was designed. Despite the length of several hundreds of metres, the slim design of the string allows it to be compacted into a small, re-usable spherical launching vehicle instead of deploying the mooring weight down from a surface vessel. After being lowered to the seafloor, the string unfurls to its full length with the buoyant launching vehicle rolling along the two ropes. The design of the vehicle, the loading with a string, and its underwater self-unrolling are detailed in this paper.

Dependence of atmospheric muon flux on seawater depth measured with the first KM3NeT detection units

KM3NeT is a research infrastructure located in the Mediterranean Sea, that will consist of two deep-sea Cherenkov neutrino detectors. With one detector (ARCA), the KM3NeT Collaboration aims at identifying and studying TeV-PeV astrophysical neutrino sources. With the other detector (ORCA), the neutrino mass ordering will be determined by studying GeV-scale atmospheric neutrino oscillations. The first KM3NeT detection units were deployed at the Italian and French sites between 2015 and 2017. In this paper, a description of the detector is presented, together with a summary of the procedures used to calibrate the detector in-situ. Finally, the measurement of the atmospheric muon flux between 2232-3386 m seawater depth is obtained.

Excited states of odd-mass nuclei with different deformation-dependent mass coefficients

Experimental data indicate that the mass tensor of collective Bohr Hamiltonian cannot be considered as a constant but should be considered as a function of the collective coordinates. In this work our purpose is to investigate the properties of low-lying collective states of the odd nuclei $^{173}$Yb and $^{163}$Dy by using a new generalized version of the collective quadrupole Bohr Hamiltonian with deformation-dependent mass coefficients. The proposed new version of the Bohr Hamiltonian is solved for Davidson potential in $β$ shape variable, while the $γ$ potential is taken to be equal to the harmonic oscillator. The obtained results of the excitation energies and B(E2) reduced transition probabilities show an overall agreement with the experimental data. Moreover, we investigate the effect of the deformation dependent mass parameter on energy spectra and transition rates in both cases, namely: when the mass coefficients are different and when they are equal. Besides, we will show the positive effect of the present formalism on the moment of inertia.

Monte Carlo simulations for the ANTARES underwater neutrino telescope

Monte Carlo simulations are a unique tool to check the response of a detector and to monitor its performance. For a deep-sea neutrino telescope, the variability of the environmental conditions that can affect the behaviour of the data acquisition system must be considered, in addition to a reliable description of the active parts of the detector and of the features of physics events, in order to produce a realistic set of simulated events. In this paper, the software tools used to produce neutrino and cosmic ray signatures in the telescope and the strategy developed to represent the time evolution of the natural environment and of the detector efficiency are described.

Observation of the cosmic ray shadow of the Sun with the ANTARES neutrino telescope

The ANTARES detector is an undersea neutrino telescope in the Mediterranean Sea. The search for point-like neutrino sources is one of the main goals of the ANTARES telescope, requiring a reliable method to evaluate the detector angular resolution and pointing accuracy. This work describes the study of the Sun "shadow" effect with the ANTARES detector. The shadow is the deficit in the atmospheric muon flux in the direction of the Sun caused by the absorption of the primary cosmic rays. This analysis is based on the data collected between 2008 and 2017 by the ANTARES telescope. The observed statistical significance of the Sun shadow detection is $3.7σ$, with an estimated angular resolution of $0.59^\circ\pm0.10^\circ$ for downward-going muons. The pointing accuracy is found to be consistent with the expectations and no evidence of systematic pointing shifts is observed.

On Einstein-non linear-Maxwell-Yukawa de-Sitter black hole thermodynamics

We investigate the thermodynamics of the Einstein-non linear-Maxwell-Yukawa black hole solution in de-Sitter spacetime. After presenting the black hole solution and its horizons, we use different thermodynamics points of view to probe the phase structure of such a black hole, ranging from local, global thermodynamics to the effective thermodynamics formalism with two horizons. Our analysis shows that the black hole can undergo a thermal phase transition between an unstable phase and stable phase. These results are consolidated by our proposal of generalizing effective thermodynamics to three horizons black holes. As by product, we find that the effective temperatures behave as an association of ohmic resistances in an electric circuit, which may reveal a possible analogy between the electric and thermodynamic systems.

Phase Transition of AdS Black hole in Massive Gravity Revisited via New Prescription

We apply the new thermodynamical method proposed initially by Hindi. et al \cite{base} to revisit the phase structure of the AdS black hole in the massive gravity framework. In comparison to the standard thermodynamical method used in literature \cite{mass}, we show that this new technical approach can easily reproduce the critical behavior inherent to this black hole configuration and addresses some of the shortcomings of the standard method. We also show the ability of this new perception to find all possible critical points and regions in which phase transitions occur, an impossible task in the standard method.

Thermodynamic criticality of d-dimensional charged AdS black holes surrounded by quintessence with a cloud of strings background

We focus on the study of the exact solution corresponding to charged AdS black holes surrounded by quintessence with a cloud of strings present in higher dimensional spacetime. We then investigate its corresponding thermodynamic criticality in the extended phase space and show that the spacetime dimension has no effect on the existence of small/large phase transition for such black holes. The heat capacity is evaluated and the geothermodynamics of Quevedo analyzed for different spacetime dimensions with the cloud of strings and quintessence parameters. We calculate the critical exponents describing the behavior of relevant thermodynamic quantities near the critical point. Finally, we also discuss the uncharged case, show how it is sensitive to the quintessence and strings cloud parameters, and when the thermodynamic behavior of the uncharged black holes is similar to Van der Waals fluid.

A Search for Cosmic Neutrino and Gamma-Ray Emitting Transients in 7.3 Years of ANTARES and Fermi LAT Data

We analyze 7.3 years of ANTARES high-energy neutrino and Fermi LAT γ-ray data in search of cosmic neutrino + γ-ray (ν+γ) transient sources or source populations. Our analysis has the potential to detect either individual ν+γ transient sources (durations δt < 1000~s), if they exhibit sufficient γ-ray or neutrino multiplicity, or a statistical excess of ν+γ transients of lower multiplicities. Treating ANTARES track and cascade event types separately, we establish detection thresholds by Monte Carlo scrambling of the neutrino data, and determine our analysis sensitivity by signal injection against scrambled datasets. We find our analysis is sensitive to ν+γ transient populations responsible for $>$5\% of the observed gamma-coincident neutrinos in the track data at 90\% confidence. Applying our analysis to the unscrambled data reveals no individual ν+γ events of high significance; two ANTARES track + Fermi γ-ray events are identified that exceed a once per decade false alarm rate threshold ($p=17\%$). No evidence for subthreshold ν+γ source populations is found among the track ($p=39\%$) or cascade ($p=60\%$) events. While TXS 0506+056, a blazar and variable (non-transient) Fermi γ-ray source, has recently been identified as the first source of high-energy neutrinos, the challenges in reconciling observations of the Fermi γ-ray sky, the IceCube high-energy cosmic neutrinos, and ultra-high energy cosmic rays using only blazars suggest a significant contribution by other source populations. Searches for transient sources of high-energy neutrinos remain interesting, with the potential for neutrino clustering or multimessenger coincidence searches to lead to discovery of the first ν+γ transients.

Probing correlation between photon orbits and phase structure of charged AdS black hole in massive gravity background

The phase structure of charged Anti-de Sitter black hole in massive gravity is investigated using the unstable circular photon orbits formalism, concretely we establish a direct link between the null geodesics and the critical behavior thermodynamic of such black hole solution. Our analysis reveals that the radius and the impact parameter corresponding to the unstable circular orbits can be used to probe the thermodynamic phase structure. We also show that the latter are key quantities to characterize the order of Van der Waals-like phase transition. Namely, we found a critical exponent around $ δ= 1/2 $. All these results support further that the photon trajectories can be used as a useful and crucial tool to probe the thermodynamic black holes criticality.

Sensitivity of the KM3NeT/ARCA neutrino telescope to point-like neutrino sources

KM3NeT will be a network of deep-sea neutrino telescopes in the Mediterranean Sea. The KM3NeT/ARCA detector, to be installed at the Capo Passero site (Italy), is optimised for the detection of high-energy neutrinos of cosmic origin. Thanks to its geographical location on the Northern hemisphere, KM3NeT/ARCA can observe upgoing neutrinos from most of the Galactic Plane, including the Galactic Centre. Given its effective area and excellent pointing resolution, KM3NeT/ARCA will measure or significantly constrain the neutrino flux from potential astrophysical neutrino sources. At the same time, it will test flux predictions based on gamma-ray measurements and the assumption that the gamma-ray flux is of hadronic origin. Assuming this scenario, discovery potentials and sensitivities for a selected list of Galactic sources and to generic point sources with an $E^{-2}$ spectrum are presented. These spectra are assumed to be time independent. The results indicate that an observation with $3σ$ significance is possible in about six years of operation for the most intense sources, such as Supernovae Remnants RX\,J1713.7-3946 and Vela Jr. If no signal will be found during this time, the fraction of the gamma-ray flux coming from hadronic processes can be constrained to be below 50\% for these two objects.

The Control Unit of the KM3NeT Data Acquisition System

The KM3NeT Collaboration runs a multi-site neutrino observatory in the Mediterranean Sea. Water Cherenkov particle detectors, deep in the sea and far off the coasts of France and Italy, are already taking data while incremental construction progresses. Data Acquisition Control software is operating off-shore detectors as well as testing and qualification stations for their components. The software, named Control Unit, is highly modular. It can undergo upgrades and reconfiguration with the acquisition running. Interplay with the central database of the Collaboration is obtained in a way that allows for data taking even if Internet links fail. In order to simplify the management of computing resources in the long term, and to cope with possible hardware failures of one or more computers, the KM3NeT Control Unit software features a custom dynamic resource provisioning and failover technology, which is especially important for ensuring continuity in case of rare transient events in multi-messenger astronomy. The software architecture relies on ubiquitous tools and broadly adopted technologies and has been successfully tested on several operating systems.

Search for Multi-messenger Sources of Gravitational Waves and High-energy Neutrinos with Advanced LIGO during its first Observing Run, ANTARES and IceCube

Astrophysical sources of gravitational waves, such as binary neutron star and black hole mergers or core-collapse supernovae, can drive relativistic outflows, giving rise to non-thermal high-energy emission. High-energy neutrinos are signatures of such outflows. The detection of gravitational waves and high-energy neutrinos from common sources could help establish the connection between the dynamics of the progenitor and the properties of the outflow. We searched for associated emission of gravitational waves and high-energy neutrinos from astrophysical transients with minimal assumptions using data from Advanced LIGO from its first observing run O1, and data from the ANTARES and IceCube neutrino observatories from the same time period. We focused on candidate events whose astrophysical origin could not be determined from a single messenger. We found no significant coincident candidate, which we used to constrain the rate density of astrophysical sources dependent on their gravitational wave and neutrino emission processes.

Behavior of Quasinormal Modes and high dimension RN-AdS Black Hole phase transition

In this work we use the quasinormal frequencies of a massless scalar perturbation to probe the phase transition of the high dimension charged-AdS black hole. The signature of the critical behavior of this black hole solution is detected in the isobaric as well as in isothermal process. This paper is a natural generalization of \cite{base} to higher dimensional spacetime. More precisely our study shows a clear signal for any dimension $d$ in the isobaric process. As to the isothermal case, we find out that this signature can be affected by other parameters like the pressure and the horizon radius. We conclude that the quasinormal modes can be an efficient tool to investigate the first order phase transition, but fail to disclose the signature of the second order phase transition.

Electric quadrupole transitions of the Bohr Hamiltonian with Manning-Rosen potential

Analytical expressions of the wave functions are derived for a Bohr Hamiltonian with the Manning{Rosen potential in the cases of γ-unstable nuclei and axially symmetric prolate deformed ones with γ=0. By exploiting the results we have obtained in a recent work on the same theme Ref. Nuclear shape phase transition within a conjonction of γ-rigid and γ-stable collective behaviours in deformation dependent mass formalism

In this paper, we present a theoretical study of a conjonction of $γ$-rigid and $γ$-stable collective motions in critical point symmetries of the phase transitions from spherical to deformed shapes of nuclei using exactly separable version of the Bohr Hamiltonian with deformation-dependent mass term. The deformation-dependent mass is applied simultaneously to $γ$-rigid and $γ$-stable parts of this famous collective Hamiltonian. Moreover, the $β$ part of the problem is described by means of Davidson potential, while the $γ$-angular part corresponding to axially symmetric shapes is treated by a Harmonic Osillator potential. The energy eigenvalues and normalized eigenfunctions of the problem are obtained in compact forms by making use of the asymptotic iteration method. The combined effect of the deformation-dependent mass and rigidity as well as harmonic oscillator stiffness parameters on the energy spectrum and wave functions is duly investigated. Also, the electric quadrupole transition ratios and energy sprectrum of some $γ$-stable and prolate nuclei are calculated and compared with the experimental data as well as with other theoretical models.

Ehrenfest Scheme of Higher Dimensional Topological AdS Black Holes in The Third Order Lovelock-Born-Infeld Gravity

Interpreting the cosmological constant as a thermodynamic pressure and its conjugate quantity as a thermodynamic volume, we reconsider the investigation of P-V critical behaviors of (1+n)-dimensional topological AdS black holes in Lovelock-Born-Infeld gravity. In particular, we give an explicit expression of the universal number χ=\frac{P_c v_c}{T_c} in terms of the space dimension $n$. Then, we examine the phase transitions at the critical points of such topological black holes for 6 \leq n \leq 11 as required by the physical condition of the thermodynamical quantities. More precisely, the Ehrenfest equations have been checked revealing that the black hole system undergoes a second phase transition at the critical points.

Maxwell's equal-area law for Gauss-Bonnet Anti-de Sitter black holes

Interpreting the cosmological constant Λas a thermodynamic pressure and its conjugate quantity as a thermodynamic volume, we study the Maxwell's equal area law of higher dimensional Gauss-Bonnet-AdS black holes in extended phase space. These black hole solutions critically behave like Van der Waals systems. It has been realized that below the critical temperature T_c the stable equilibrium is violated. We show through calculations that the critical behaviors for the uncharged black holes only appear in d=5. For the charged case, we analyse solutions in d = 5 and d = 6 separately and find that, up to some constrains, the critical behaviors only appear in the spherical topology. Using the Maxwell's construction, we also find the isobar line for which the liquid-gas-like phases coexist.

On Heat Properties of AdS Black Holes in Higher Dimensions

We investigate the heat properties of AdS Black Holes in higher dimensions. We consider the study of the corresponding thermodynamical properties including the heat capacity explored in the determination of the black hole stability. In particular, we compute the heat latent. To overcome the instability problem, the Maxwell construction, in the (T,S)-plane, is elaborated. This method is used to modify the the Hawking-Page phase structure by removing the negative heat capacity regions. Then, we discuss the thermodynamic cycle and the heat engines using the way based on the extraction of the work from a black hole solution.

On Thermodynamics of AdS Black Holes in M-Theory

Motivated by a recent work on asymptotically AdS_4 black holes in M-theory, we investigate the thermodynamics and thermodynamical geometry of AdS black holes from M2 and M5-branes. Concretely, we consider AdS black holes in AdS_{p+2}\times S^{11-p-2}, where p=2,5 by interpreting the number of M2 (and M5-branes) as a thermodynamical variable. We study the corresponding phase transition to examine their stabilities by calculating and discussing various thermodynamical quantities including the chemical potential. Then, we compute the thermodynamical curvatures from the Quevedo metric for M2 and M5-branes geometries to reconsider the stability of such black objects. The Quevedo metric singularities recover similar stability results provided by the phase transition program.

Thermodynamics of Charged AdS Black Holes in Extended Phases Space via M2-branes Background

Motivated by a recent work on asymptotically Ad$S_4$ black holes in M-theory, we investigate both thermodynamics and thermodynamical geometry of Raissner-Nordstrom-AdS black holes from M2-branes. More precisely, we study AdS black holes in $AdS_{4}\times S^{7}$, with the number of M2-branes interpreted as a thermodynamical variable. In this context, we calculate various thermodynamical quantities including the chemical potential, and examine their phase transitions along with the corresponding stability behaviors. In addition, we also evaluate the thermodynamical curvatures of the Weinhold, Ruppeiner and Quevedo metrics for M2-branes geometry to study the stability of such black object. We show that the singularities of these scalar curvature's metrics reproduce similar stability results obtained by the phase transition program via the heat capacities in different ensembles either when the number of the M2 branes or the charge are held fixed. Also, we note that all results derived in [1] are recovered in the limit of the vanishing charge.

Vibrational and rotational excited states within Bohr Hamiltonian with deformation-dependent mass formalism

In a recent work (Phys.Rev.C84, 044321, 2011) M.J. Ermamatov and P.R. Fraser have studied rotational and vibrational excited states of axially symmetric nuclei within the Bohr Hamiltonian with different mass parameters. However, the energy formula that the authors have used contains some inaccuracies. So, the numerical results they obtained seem to be controversial. In this paper, we revisit all calculations related to this problem and determine the appropriate formula for the energy spectrum. Moreover, in order to improve such calculations, we reconsider this problem within the framework of the deformation dependent mass formalism. Also, unlike the work of Bonatsos et al. (Phys.Rev.C83, 044321, 2011) where the mass parameter has not been considered, we will show the importance of this parameter and its effect on numerical predictions.

Critical Behaviors of 3D Black Holes with a Scalar Hair

The principal focus of the present work concerns the critical behaviors of a class of three dimensional black holes with a scalar field hair. Since the cosmological constant is viewed as a thermodynamic pressure and its conjugate quantity as a volume, we examine such properties in terms of two parameters B and a. The latters are related to the scalar field and the angular momentum respectively. In particular, we give the equation of state predicting a critical universal number depending on the (B,a) moduli space. In the vanishing limit of the B parameter, we recover the usual perfect gas behavior appearing in the case of the non rotating BTZ black hole. We point out that in a generic region of the (B,a) moduli space, the model behaves like a Van der Waals system.

Degenerate Higgs bosons decays to ${γγ}$ and ${Zγ}$ in the type II Seesaw Model

Using the most recent results of CMS and ATLAS, we study the Higgs decays to $γγ$ and $Zγ$ in the scenario where the two CP even Higgs predicted by the type II seesaw model (HTM) are close to mass degenerate with a mass near $125$ GeV. We analyse the effects of the Higgs potential parameters constrained by the full set of perturbative unitarity, boundedness from below (BFB) as well as from precision electroweak measurements on these decay modes. Our analysis demonstrates that the observed excess in the diphoton Higgs decay channel can be interpreted in our scenario within a delineated region controlled by $λ_{1}$ and $λ_{4}$ coupling. We also find a deviation in the Higgs decay to $Zγ$ with respect to the Standard Model prediction and the largest enhancement is found for a ratio $R_{Zγ}$ of the order $1.6$. Furthermore we show that consistency with current ATLAS data on the diphoton decay channel favours a light doubly charged Higgs with mass in the range $92 - 180$~GeV. Finally, we find that the $γγ$ and $Z γ$ Higgs decay modes are generally correlated and the magnitude of correlation is sensitive to the sign of the $λ_{1}$ parameter.

On Thermodynamics of 2d Black Holes in Brane Inflationary Potentials

Inspired from the inflation brane world cosmology, we study the thermodynamics of a black hole solution in two dimensional dilaton gravity with an arctangent potential background. We first derive the two dimensional black hole geometry, then we examine its asymptotic behaviors. More precisely, we find that such behaviors exhibit properties appearing in some known cases including the Anti de Sitter and the Schwarzchild black holes. Using the complex path method, we compute the Hawking radiation. The entropy function can be related to the value of the potential at the horizon.

Statistical Physics of 3D Hairy Black Holes

We investigate the statistical behaviors of 3D hairy black holes in the presence of a scalar field. The present study is made in terms of two relevant parameters: rotation parameter a and B parameter related to the scalar field. More precisely, we compute various statistical quantities including the partition function for non-charged and charged black hole solutions. Using a partition function calculation, we show that the probability is independent of a and B parameters.

On Thermodynamical Behaviors of Kerr-Newman AdS Black Holes

We reconsider the study of critical behaviors of Kerr-Newman AdS black holes in four dimensions. The study is made in terms of the moduli space parameterized by the charge Q and the rotation parameter a, relating the mass M of the black hole and its angular momentum J via the relation a=J/M. Specifically, we discuss such thermodynamical behaviors in the presence of a positive cosmological constant considered as a thermodynamic pressure and its conjugate quantity as a thermodynamic volume. The equation of state for a charged RN-AdS black hole predicts a critical universal number depending on the (Q,a) moduli space. In the vanishing limit of the a parameter, this prediction recovers the usual universal number in four dimensions. Then, we find the bounded regions of the moduli space allowing the consistency of the model with real thermodynamical variables.

Analytic l-state solutions of the Klein-Gordon equation for q-deformed Woods-Saxon plus generalized ring shape potential

The analytical expressions for the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the Klein-Gordon equation for q-deformed Woods-Saxon plus new generalized ring shape potential are derived within the asymptotic iteration method. The obtained eigenvalues are given in a closed form and the corresponding normalized eigenvectors, for any l, are formulated in terms of the generalized Jacobi polynomials for the radial part of the Klein-Gordon equation and associated Legendre polynomials for its angular one. When the shape deformation is canceled, we recover the same solutions previously obtained by the Nikiforov-Uvarov method for the standard spherical Woods-Saxon potential. It is also shown that, from the obtained results, we can derive the solutions of this problem for Hulthen potential.

On Thermodynamics of AdS Black Holes in Arbitrary Dimensions

Considering the cosmological constant $Λ$ as a thermodynamic pressure and its conjugate quantity as a thermodynamic volume as proposed in Kubiznak and Mann (2012), we discuss the critical behavior of charged AdS black hole in arbitrary dimensions $d$. In particular, we present a comparative study in terms of the spacetime dimension $d$ and the displacement of critical points controlling the transition between the small and the large black holes. Such behaviors vary nicely in terms of $d$. Among our result in this context consists in showing that the equation of state for a charged RN-AdS black hole predicts an universal number given by $\frac{2d-5}{4d-8}$. The three dimensional solution is also discussed.

Higgs boson decay into 2 photons in the type~II Seesaw Model

We study the two photon decay channel of the Standard Model-like component of the CP-even Higgs bosons present in the type II Seesaw Model. The corresponding cross-section is found to be significantly enhanced in parts of the parameter space, due to the (doubly-)charged Higgs bosons' $(H^{\pm \pm})H^\pm$ virtual contributions, while all the other Higgs decay channels remain Standard Model(SM)-like. In other parts of the parameter space $H^{\pm \pm}$ (and $H^{\pm}$) interfere destructively, reducing the two photon branching ratio tremendously below the SM prediction. Such properties allow to account for any excess such as the one reported by ATLAS/CMS at $\approx 125$ GeV if confirmed by future data; if not, for the fact that a SM-like Higgs exclusion in the diphoton channel around 114-115 GeV as reported by ATLAS, does not contradict a SM-like Higgs at LEP(!), and at any rate, for the fact that ATLAS/CMS exclusion limits put stringent lower bounds on the $H^{\pm \pm}$ mass, particularly in the parameter space regions where the direct limits from same-sign leptonic decays of $H^{\pm \pm}$ do not apply.

The Higgs Potential in the Type II Seesaw Model

We perform in the type II seesaw setting, a detailed study of the dynamical features of the corresponding general renormalizable doublet/triplet Higgs potential that depends on five dimensionless couplings and two mass parameters after spontaneous symmetry breaking, and highlight the implications for the Higgs phenomenology. In particular, we determine i) the complete set of tree-level unitarity constraints on the couplings of the potential and ii) the exact tree-level {\sl all directions} boundedness from below constraints on these couplings. When combined, these constraints delineate precisely the theoretically allowed parameter space domain within our perturbative approximation. Among the seven physical Higgs states of this model, the mass of the lighter (heavier) CP-even state h0 (H0) will always satisfy a theoretical upper (lower) bound that is reached for a critical value mu_c of mu (the mass parameter controlling triple couplings among the doublet/triplet Higgses). Saturating the unitarity bounds we find m_h0 < {\cal O}(0.7 - 1 TeV), while the upper bound for the remaining Higgses lies in the several tens of TeV. However, the actual masses can be much lighter. We identify two regimes corresponding to mu > mu_c and mu < mu_c. In the first regime the Higgs sector is typically very heavy and only h0 that becomes SM-like could be accessible to the LHC. In contrast, in the second regime, somewhat overlooked in the literature, most of the Higgs sector is light. In particular the heaviest state H0 becomes SM-like, the lighter states being the CP-odd Higgs, the (doubly) charged Higgses and a decoupled h0, possibly leading to a distinctive phenomenology at the colliders.

On the dilaton and the axion potentials

We extend the Vecchia-Veneziano-Witten (VVW) model of QCD in the chiral limit and for large colour number $N_c$, by introducing an effective dilaton-gluon coupling from which we derive both the axion and dilaton potentials. Furthermore, using a string inspired model, we determine a new interquark potential as a perturbative series in terms of the interquark distance $r$. Our potential goes beyond Dick one obtained in [8] and shares the same features as the Bian-Huang-Shen potential $V_{BHS}$ which depends only on odd powers of $r$ [22].

On the confining potential in 4d $SU(N_c)$ gauge theory with dilaton

Using the formal analogy between the Dick superstring inspired model of ref.[6] and the problem of building of Eguchi Hanson metric in 4d N=2 harmonic superspace (hs), we derive a general formula for the quark-quark interaction potential V(r) including the Dick confining potential. The interquark potential V(r) depends on the dilaton-gluon coupling and may be related to the parameterization of confinement by the quark and gluon vacuum condensates. It is also shown how the axion field may be incorporated in agreement with 10d type IIB superstring requirements. Others features are also discussed.
