Insight into ground-state spin arrangement and bipartite entanglement of the polymeric coordination compound [Dy$_2$Cu$_2$]$_n$ through the symmetric spin-1/2 Ising-Heisenberg orthogonal-dimer chain

The ground-state spin arrangement and the bipartite entanglement within Cu$^{2+}$-Cu$^{2+}$ dimers across the magnetization process of the 4f-3d heterometallic coordination polymer [{Dy(hfac)$_2$(CH$_3$OH)}$_2${Cu(dmg)(Hdmg)}$_2$]$_n$ (H$_2$dmg = dimethylglyoxime, Hhfac = 1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoropentane-2,4-dione) are theoretically examined using the symmetric isotropic spin-$1/2$ Ising-Heisenberg orthogonal-dimer chain. The numerical results point to five possible ground states of the compound with three different degrees of the quantum entanglement within Cu$^{2+}$-Cu$^{2+}$. Besides the standard ferrimagnetic and saturated phases without quantum entanglement of Cu$^{2+}$ ions, which are manifested in low-temperature magnetization curve as wide plateaus at the non-saturated magnetization $16.26μ_{\rm B}$ and at the saturation value $20.82μ_{\rm B}$, respectively, one also finds an intriguing singlet-like phase with just partial entanglement within Cu$^{2+}$-Cu$^{2+}$ and two singlet phases with fully entangled Cu$^{2+}$-Cu$^{2+}$ dimers. The former quantum phase can be identified in the low-temperature magnetization process as very narrow intermediate plateau at the magnetization $9.27μ_{\rm B}$ per unit cell, while the latter ones as zero magnetization plateau and intermediate plateau at the magnetization $18.54μ_{\rm B}$. Non-monotonous temperature variations of the concurrence, through which the entanglement within cooper dimers is quantified, point to the possible temporary thermal activation of the entangled states of Cu$^{2+}$-Cu$^{2+}$ also above non-entangled ferrimagnetic and saturated phases.

Bipartite entanglement in the spin-1/2 Ising-Heisenberg planar lattice constituted of identical trigonal bipyramidal plaquettes

The bipartite entanglement is rigorously examined in the spin-$1/2$ Ising-Heisenberg planar lattice composed of identical inter-connected bipyramidal plaquettes at zero and finite temperatures using the quantity called concurrence. It is shown that the Heisenberg spins of the same plaquette are twice stronger entangled in the two-fold degenerate quantum ground state than in the macroscopically degenerate quantum chiral one. The bipartite entanglement with chiral features completely disappears below or exactly at the critical temperature of the model, while that with no chirality may survive even above the critical temperature of the model. Non-monotonous temperature variations of the concurrence clearly evidence the activation of the entangled Heisenberg states also above classical ground state as well as their re-appearance above the critical temperature of the model.

Enhanced magnetoelectric effect near a field-driven zero-temperature quantum phase transition of the spin-1/2 Heisenberg-Ising ladder

Magnetoelectric effect of the spin-1/2 Heisenberg-Ising ladder in a presence of the external electric and magnetic fields is rigorously examined by taking into account Katsura-Nagaosa-Balatsky mechanism. It is shown that the applied electric field may control a quantum phase transition between the Néel (stripy) ordered phase and the disordered paramagnetic phase. The staggered magnetization vanishes according to a power law with the Ising-type critical exponent 1/8, the electric polarization exhibits a weak singularity and the dielectric susceptibility shows a logarithmic divergence at this particular quantum phase transition. The external electric field may alternatively invoke a discontinuous phase transition accompanied with abrupt jumps of the dielectric polarization and susceptibility on assumption that the external magnetic field becomes nonzero.

Ground state, magnetization process and magnetocaloric effect of the exactly tractable spin-electron tetrahedral chain

A hybrid spin-electron system on one-dimensional tetrahedral chain, in which the localized Ising spin regularly alternates with the mobile electron delocalized over three lattice sites, is exactly investigated using the generalized decoration-iteration transformation. The system exhibits either the ferromagnetic or antiferromagnetic ground state depending on whether the ferromagnetic or antiferromagnetic interaction between the Ising spins and mobile electrons is considered. The enhanced magnetocaloric effect during the adiabatic demagnetization suggests a potential use of the investigated system for low-temperature magnetic refrigeration.

Magnetocaloric effect in the spin-1/2 Ising-Heisenberg diamond chain with the four-spin interaction

The magnetocaloric effect in the symmetric spin-1/2 Ising-Heisenberg diamond chain with the Ising four-spin interaction is investigated using the generalized decoration-iteration mapping transformation and the transfer-matrix technique. The entropy and the Gruneisen parameter, which closely relate to the magnetocaloric effect, are exactly calculated to compare the capability of the system to cool in the vicinity of different field-induced ground-state phase transitions during the adiabatic demagnetization.
