Coupling Spin Defects in Hexagonal Boron Nitride to Titanium Oxide Ring Resonators

Spin-dependent optical transitions are attractive for a plethora of applications in quantum technologies. Here we report on utilization of high quality ring resonators fabricated from TiO2 to enhance the emission from negatively charged boron vacancies in hexagonal Boron Nitride. We show that the emission from these defects can efficiently couple into the whispering gallery modes of the ring resonators. Optically coupled boron vacancy showed photoluminescence contrast in optically detected magnetic resonance signals from the hybrid coupled devices. Our results demonstrate a practical method for integration of spin defects in 2D materials with dielectric resonators which is a promising platform for quantum technologies.

On q-deformed infinite-dimensional n-algebra

The $q$-deformation of the infinite-dimensional $n$-algebra is investigated. Based on the structure of the $q$-deformed Virasoro-Witt algebra, we derive a nontrivial $q$-deformed Virasoro-Witt $n$-algebra which is nothing but a sh-$n$-Lie algebra. Furthermore in terms of the pseud-differential operators on the quantum plane, we construct the (co)sine $n$-algebra and the $q$-deformed $SDiff(T^2)$ $n$-algebra. We prove that they are the sh-$n$-Lie algebras for the case of even $n$. An explicit physical realization of the (co)sine $n$-algebra is given.

Wavelength-sized GaAs optomechanical resonators with GHz frequency

We report on wavelength-sized GaAs optomechanical disk resonators showing ultra-strong optomechanical interaction. We observe optical transduction of a disk mechanical breathing mode with 1.4 GHz frequency and effective mass of ~ 2 pg. The measured vacuum optomechanical coupling rate reaches 0.8 MHz, with a related differential optomechanical coupling factor of 485 GHz/nm. The disk Brownian motion is optically resolved with a sensitivity of 10-17 m/{\sqrt}Hz at room temperature and pressure.

Ultra-low loss single-mode silica tapers manufactured by a microheater

Using a ceramic thermoelectric heater, we show highly reproducible fabrication of single-mode sub-wavelength silica tapers with ultra-low loss level. The reproducibility of the process is studied statistically, leading to an average taper transmission of 94%. The best tapers have a transmission superior to 99%, above common level reached by other fabrication methods. The taper profile is inspected along its length and closely follows the exponential profile predicted by the model of Birks and Li. This high degree of control over the taper shape allows a detailed analysis of the transition to the single-mode regime during tapering. As an application of this fabrication method, we present a micro-looped taper probe for evanescent coupling experiments requiring fine spatial selectivity.
