Exponential decay of transverse correlations for O(N) spin systems and related models

We prove exponential decay of transverse correlations in the Spin O(N) model for arbitrary (non-zero) values of the external magnetic field and arbitrary spin dimension N > 1. Our result is new when N > 3, in which case no Lee-Yang theorem is available, it is an alternative to Lee-Yang when N = 2, 3, and also holds for a wide class of multi-component spin systems with continuous symmetry. The key ingredients are a representation of the model as a system of coloured random paths, a `colour-switch' lemma, and a sampling procedure which allows us to bound from above the `typical' length of the open paths.

Site-monotonicity properties for reflection positive measures with applications to quantum spin systems

We consider a general statistical mechanics model on a product of local spaces and prove that, if the corresponding measure is reflection positive, then several site-monotonicity properties for the two-point function hold. As an application of such a general theorem, we derive site-monotonicity properties for the spin-spin correlation of the quantum Heisenberg antiferromagnet and $XY$ model, we prove that such spin-spin correlations are point-wise uniformly positive on vertices with all odd coordinates -- improving previous positivity results which hold for the Cesàro sum -- and we derive site-monotonicity properties for the probability that a loop connects two vertices in various random loop models, including the loop representation of the spin O(N) model, the double-dimer model, the loop O(N) model, lattice permutations, thus extending the previous results of \textit{Lees and Taggi (2019)}.

Site monotonicity and uniform positivity for interacting random walks and the spin O(N) model with arbitrary N

We provide a uniformly-positive point-wise lower bound for the two-point function of the classical spin $O(N)$ model on the torus of $\mathbb{Z}^d$, $d \geq 3$, when $N \in \mathbb{N}_{>0}$ and the inverse temperature $β$ is large enough. This is a new result when $N>2$ and extends the classical result of Fröhlich, Simon and Spencer (1976). Our bound follows from a new site-monotonicity property of the two-point function which is of independent interest and holds not only for the spin $O(N)$ model with arbitrary $N \in \mathbb{N}_{>0}$, but for a wide class of systems of interacting random walks and loops, including the loop $O(N)$ model, random lattice permutations, the dimer model, the double dimer model, and the loop representation of the classical spin $O(N)$ model.

Critical probabilities and convergence time of Percolation Probabilistic Cellular Automata

This paper considers a class of probabilistic cellular automata undergoing a phase transition with an absorbing state. Denoting by ${\mathcal{U}}(x)$ the neighbourhood of site $x$, the transition probability is $T(η_x = 1 | η_{\mathcal{U}(x)}) = 0$ if $η_{\mathcal{U}(x)}= \mathbf{0}$ or $p$ otherwise, $\forall x \in \mathbb{Z}$. For any $\mathcal{U}$ there exists a non-trivial critical probability $p_c({\mathcal{U}})$ that separates a phase with an absorbing state from a fluctuating phase. This paper studies how the neighbourhood affects the value of $p_c({\mathcal{U}})$ and provides lower bounds for $p_c({\mathcal{U}})$. Furthermore, by using dynamic renormalization techniques, we prove that the expected convergence time of the processes on a finite space with periodic boundaries grows exponentially (resp. logarithmically) with the system size if $p > p_c$ (resp. $p<p_c$). This provides a partial answer to an open problem in Toom et al. (1990, 1994).

Dynamical correlations in the escape strategy of Influenza A virus

The evolutionary dynamics of human Influenza A virus presents a challenging theoretical problem. An extremely high mutation rate allows the virus to escape, at each epidemic season, the host immune protection elicited by previous infections. At the same time, at each given epidemic season a single quasi-species, that is a set of closely related strains, is observed. A non-trivial relation between the genetic (i.e., at the sequence level) and the antigenic (i.e., related to the host immune response) distances can shed light into this puzzle. In this paper we introduce a model in which, in accordance with experimental observations, a simple interaction rule based on spatial correlations among point mutations dynamically defines an immunity space in the space of sequences. We investigate the static and dynamic structure of this space and we discuss how it affects the dynamics of the virus-host interaction. Interestingly we observe a staggered time structure in the virus evolution as in the real Influenza evolutionary dynamics.
