Dynamic Spatio-temporal Graph-based CNNs for Traffic Prediction

Forecasting future traffic flows from previous ones is a challenging problem because of their complex and dynamic nature of spatio-temporal structures. Most existing graph-based CNNs attempt to capture the static relations while largely neglecting the dynamics underlying sequential data. In this paper, we present dynamic spatio-temporal graph-based CNNs (DST-GCNNs) by learning expressive features to represent spatio-temporal structures and predict future traffic flows from surveillance video data. In particular, DST-GCNN is a two stream network. In the flow prediction stream, we present a novel graph-based spatio-temporal convolutional layer to extract features from a graph representation of traffic flows. Then several such layers are stacked together to predict future flows over time. Meanwhile, the relations between traffic flows in the graph are often time variant as the traffic condition changes over time. To capture the graph dynamics, we use the graph prediction stream to predict the dynamic graph structures, and the predicted structures are fed into the flow prediction stream. Experiments on real datasets demonstrate that the proposed model achieves competitive performances compared with the other state-of-the-art methods.

High Resolution Image Reconstruction Method for a Double-plane PET System with Changeable Spacing

Positron Emission Mammography (PEM) imaging systems with the ability in detection of millimeter-sized tumors were developed in recent years. And some of them have been well used in clinical applications. In consideration of biopsy application, a double-plane detector configuration is practical for the convenience of breast immobilization. However, the serious blurring effect in the double-plane system with changeable spacing for different breast size should be studied. Methods: We study a high resolution reconstruction method applicable for a double-plane PET system with a changeable detector spacing. Geometric and blurring components should be calculated at real time for different detector distance. Accurate geometric sensitivity is obtained with a tube area model. Resolution recovery is achieved by estimating blurring effects derived from simulated single gamma response information. Results: The results show that the new geometric modeling gives a more finite and smooth sensitivity weight in double-plane system. The blurring component yields contrast recovery levels that could not be reached without blurring modeling, as well as better visual recovery of the smallest spheres and better delineation of the structures in the reconstructed images. Statistical noise has lower variance at the voxel level with blurring modeling than without at matched resolution. Conclusion: In the distance-changeable double-plane PET, the finite resolution modeling during reconstruction achieves resolution recovery, without noise amplification.

Performance assessment of CsI(Tl) screens on various substrates for X-ray imaging

Thallium-doped cesium iodide (CsI(Tl)) screens are widely used in X-ray imaging devices because of the columnar structure of CsI(Tl) layer, but few reports focus on the optical role of the substrate in the screen system. In this paper, four substrates including fused silica (SiO2), silver-film coated SiO2, graphite (C) and fiber optic plate (FOP) are used to fabricate CsI(Tl) screens by thermal evaporation. Their imaging performance is evaluated by relative light output (RLO), modulation transfer function (MTF), normalized noise power spectrum (NNPS) and noise equivalent quanta (NEQ). The results reveal that although CsI(Tl) film on graphite plate yields images with the lowest light output, it presents relatively higher spatial resolution and better signal-to-noise characteristics. However, films on SiO2 plate obtain low MTF but high NNPS curves, whether or not coated with silver film. Furthermore, scintillation screens on FOP have bright images with low NNPS and high NEQ, but have the lowest MTF. By controlling the substrate optical features, CsI(Tl) films can be tailed to suit a given application.

A semi-empirical response function for Gamma-ray of Scintillation detector based on physical interaction mechanism

Scintillation detector has lower energy resolution for Gamma-ray as compared to semiconductor detector, better spectra analysis method is essential to traditional method. A model for describing the response function of scintillation detector over the range of incident Gamma-ray energies between 0.5 and 1.5 MeV has been established and applied to fitting radiation sources spectra. Each function form for describing the feature of Gamma-ray spectra are based on the analysis of fundamental interaction mechanism. These functions are combined to form a DRF model to fit experiment spectra by weighted least squares fitting method, parameters in this model are obtained simultaneously. Gaussian standard deviation can be calculated out by an individual procedure. Validity of the DRF model is demonstrated by fitting Co-60 and Cs-137 spectra measured by CsI(Tl) detector and comparing them to the normalized equivalent measured spectrum.

Attenuation correction with Region Growing Method used in the Positron Emission Mammography System

Positron Emission Mammography imaging system (PEMi) is a nuclear medicine diagnosis method dedicated for breast imaging. It provides a better resolution in detection of millimeter-sized breast tumors than whole-body PET. To address the requirement of semi-quantitative analysis with the radiotracer concentration map of the breast, a new attenuation correction method based on three-dimensional seeded region growing image segmentation (3DSRG-AC) solution was developed. The method gives a 3D connected region as the segmentation result instead of image slices. The continuously segmentation property makes this new method free of activity variation of breast tissues. Threshold value chosen is the key point for the segmentation process. The first valley of the grey level histogram of the reconstruction image is set as the lower threshold, which works fine in clinical application. Results show that attenuation correction for PEMi improves the image quality and the quantitative accuracy of radioactivity distribution determination. Attenuation correction also improves the probabilities to detect small and early breast tumors.

Design and performance of LLRF system for CSNS/RCS

The rapid cycling synchrotron (RCS) is part of China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS). The RCS provides 1.6GeV protons with a repetition rate of 25Hz. The RF system in RCS is mainly composed of a ferrite loaded RF cavity, a high power tetrode amplifier, a bias supply of 3300A and a digital low level RF (LLRF) system based on FPGA. The major challenge of the LLRF system is to solve problems caused by rapid frequency sweeping and heavy beam loading effect. This paper will present the design and structure of the LLRF system, and show results of performance tests.

Evaluation of imaging protocol for ECT based on CS image reconstruction algorithm

SPECT (Single-photon Emission Computerized Tomography) and PET (Positron Emission Tomography) are essential medical imaging tools, for which the sampling angle number, scan time should be chosen carefully to compromise between image quality and the radiopharmaceutical dose. In this study, the image quality of different acquisition protocol was evaluated via varied angle number and count number per angle with Monte Carlo simulation data. It was shown that when similar imaging counts were used, the factor of acquisition counts was more important than that of the sampling number in ECT (Emission Computerized Tomography). To further reduce the activity requirement and the scan duration, an iterative image reconstruction algorithm for limited-view and low-dose tomography based on compressed sensing theory has been developed. The total variation regulation was added in the reconstruction process to improve SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) and reduce the artifacts caused by the limited angle sampling. Maximization of maximum likelihood of the estimated image and the measured data and minimization of the total variation of the image are alternative implemented. By using this advanced algorithm, the reconstruction process is able to achieve image quality matching or exceeding that of normal scan with only half of the injection radiopharmaceutical dose.
