Initial traces and solvability for a semilinear heat equation on a half space of RN{\mathbb R}^N

We show the existence and the uniqueness of initial traces of nonnegative solutions to a semilinear heat equation on a half space of RN{\mathbb R}^N under the zero Dirichlet boundary condition. Furthermore, we obtain necessary conditions and sufficient conditions on the initial data for the solvability of the corresponding Cauchy--Dirichlet problem. Our necessary conditions and sufficient conditions are sharp and enable us to find optimal singularities of initial data for the solvability of the Cauchy--Dirichlet problem.

Existence and nonexistence of solutions to the Hardy parabolic equation

In this paper, we obtain necessary conditions and sufficient conditions on the initial data for the local-in-time solvability of the Cauchy problem \[ \partial_t u +(-Δ)^\fracθ{2} u=|x|^{-γ} u^p ,\quad x\in{\bf R}^N, t>0, \qquad u(0)=μ\quad \mbox{in} \quad {\bf R}^N, \] where N≥1N\ge 1, 0<θ≤20<θ\le2, p>1p>1, γ>0γ>0 and μμ is a nonnegative Radon measure on RN{\bf R}^N. Using these conditions, we attempt to identify the optimal strength of the singularity of μμ for the existence of solutions to this problem.

Optimal singularities of initial data for solvability of the Hardy parabolic equation

We consider the Cauchy problem for the Hardy parabolic equation ∂tu−Δu=∣x∣−γup\partial_t u-Δu=|x|^{-γ}u^p with initial data u0u_0 singular at some point zz. Our main results show that, if z≠0z\neq 0, then the optimal strength of the singularity of u0u_0 at zz for the solvability of the equation is the same as that of the Fujita equation ∂tu−Δu=up\partial_t u-Δu=u^p. Moreover, if z=0z=0, then the optimal singularity for the Hardy parabolic equation is weaker than that of the Fujita equation. We also obtain analogous results for a fractional case ∂tu+(−Δ)θ/2u=∣x∣−γup\partial_t u+(-Δ)^{θ/2} u=|x|^{-γ}u^p with 0<θ<20<θ<2.

Sharp estimate of the life span of solutions to the heat equation with a nonlinear boundary condition

Consider the heat equation with a nonlinear boundary condition ∂tu=Δu,x∈R+N,   t>0,∂νu=up,x∈∂R+N,   t>0,u(x,0)=κψ(x),x∈D:=R+N‾, \partial_t u=Δu,\quad x\in{\bf R}^N_+,\,\,\,t>0,\qquad \partial_νu=u^p, \quad x\in\partial{\bf R}^N_+,\,\,\,t>0,\qquad u(x,0)=κψ(x),\quad x\in D:=\overline{{\bf R}^N_+}, where N≥1N\ge 1, p>1p>1, κ>0κ>0 and ψψ is a nonnegative measurable function in R+N:={y∈RN:yN>0}{\bf R}^N_+ :=\{y\in{\bf R}^N:y_N>0 \}. Let us denote by T(κψ)T(κψ) the life span of solutions to this problem. We investigate the relationship between the singularity of ψψ at the origin and T(κψ)T(κψ) for sufficiently large κ>0κ>0 and the relationship between the behavior of ψψ at the space infinity and T(κψ)T(κψ) for sufficiently small κ>0κ>0. Moreover, we give an optimal estimate to T(κψ)T(κψ), as κ→∞κ\to\infty or κ→+0κ\to+0.

Existence of solutions for a fractional semilinear parabolic equation with singular initial data

In this paper we obtain necessary conditions and sufficient conditions on the initial data for the solvability of the Cauchy problem $$ \partial_t u+(-Δ)^{\fracθ{2}}u=u^p,\quad x\in{\bf R}^N,\,\,t>0, \qquad u(0)=μ\ge 0\quad\mbox{in}\quad{\bf R}^N, $$ where N≥1N\ge 1, 0<θ≤20<θ\le 2, p>1p>1 and μμ is a Radon measure or a measurable function in RN{\bf R}^N. Our conditions lead optimal estimates of the life span of the solution with μμ behaving like λ∣x∣−Aλ|x|^{-A} (A>0A>0) at the space infinity, as λ→+0λ\to +0.
