Half-quantized Non-Abelian Vortices in Neutron $^3P_2$ Superfluids inside Magnetars

We point out that half-quantized non-Abelian vortices exist as the minimum energy states in rotating neutron $^3P_2$ superfluids in the inner cores of magnetars with magnetic field greater than $3 \times 10^{15}$ Gauss, while they do not in ordinary neutron stars with smaller magnetic fields. One integer vortex is split into two half-quantized vortices. The number of vortices is about $10^{19}$ and they are separated at about $μ$m in a vortex lattice for typical parameters, while the vortex core size is about 10-100 fm. They are non-Abelian vortices characterized by non-Abelian first homotopy group, and consequently when two vortices corresponding to non-commutative elements collide, a rung vortex must be created between them, implying the formation of an entangled vortex network inside the cores of magnetars. We find the spontaneous magnetization in the vortex core showing anti-ferromagnetism whose typical magnitude is about $10^{8-9}$ Gauss that is ten times larger than that of integer vortices, when external magnetic fields are present along the vortex line.

Hadron-Quark Crossover and Hot Neutron Stars at Birth

We construct a new isentropic equation of state (EOS) at finite temperature "CRover" on the basis of the hadron-quark crossover at high density. By using the new EOS, we study the structure of hot neutron stars at birth with the typical lepton fraction ($Y_l=0.3-0.4$) and the typical entropy per baryon ($S=1-2$). Due to the gradual appearance of quark degrees of freedom at high density, the temperature T and the baryon density at the center of the hot neutron stars with the hadron-quark crossover are found to be smaller than those without the crossover by a factor of 2 or more. Typical energy release due to the contraction of a hot neutron star to a cold neutron star with 1.4 solarmass is shown to be about 0.04 solarmass with the spin-up rate about 14%.

Hyperon Puzzle, Hadron-Quark Crossover and Massive Neutron Stars

Bulk properties of cold and hot neutron stars (NSs) are studied on the basis of the hadron-quark crossover picture where a smooth transition from the hadronic phase to the quark phase takes place at finite baryon density. By using a phenomenological equation of state (EOS) "CRover" which interpolates the two phases at around 3 times the nuclear matter density, it is found that the cold NSs with the gravitational mass larger than 2-solarmass can be sustained. This is in sharp contrast to the case of the first-order hadron-quark transition. The radii of the cold NSs with the CRover EOS are in the narrow range which is insensitive to the NS masses. Due to the stiffening of the EOS induced by the hadron-quark crossover, the central density of the NSs is at most 4 times the nuclear matter density and the hyperon-mixing barely occurs inside the NS core. This constitutes a solution of the long-standing hyperon puzzle. The effect of color superconductivity (CSC) on the NS structures is also examined with the hadron-quark crossover. For the typical strength of the diquark attraction, a slight softening of the EOS due to two-flavor CSC (2SC) takes place and the maximum mass is reduced by about 0.2-solarmass. The CRover EOS is generalized to the supernova matter at finite temperature to describe the hot NSs at birth. The hadron-quark crossover is found to decrease the central temperature of the hot NSs under isentropic condition. The gravitational energy release and the spin-up rate during the contraction from the hot NS to the cold NS are also estimated.

Magnetic Properties of Quantized Vortices in Neutron $^3P_2$ Superfluids in Neutron Stars

We discuss quantized vortices in neutron $^3P_2$ superfluids, which are believed to realize in high density neutron matter such as neutron stars. By using the Ginzburg-Landau free energy for $^3P_2$ superfluids, we determine the ground state in the absence and presence of the external magnetic field, and numerically construct $^3P_2$ quantized vortices in the absence and presence of the external magnetic field along the vortex axis (poloidal) or angular direction (toroidal). We find in certain situations the spontaneous magnetization of the vortex core, whose typical magnitude is about $10^{7-8}$ Gauss, but the net magnetic field in a neutron star is negligible because of the ratio of the vortex core size $\sim 10$fm and the intervortex distance $\sim 10^{-6}$m in a vortex lattice.

Massive Neutron Stars with Hadron-Quark Transition Core : phenomenological approach by "3-window model"

By a new approach introducing a "3-window model" and constructing phenomenologically an equation of state for the hadron-quark (HQ) transition region, possible maximum mass of neutron stars (NSs) is discussed. It is found that neutron stars (NSs) with HQ transition core are able to have a mass exceeding two-solar mass, consistent with massive NSs recently observed.

Hadron-Quark Crossover and Massive Hybrid Stars

On the basis of the percolation picture from the hadronic phase with hyperons to the quark phase with strangeness, we construct a new equation of state (EOS) with the pressure interpolated as a function of the baryon density. The maximum mass of neutron stars can exceed $2M_{\odot}$ if the following two conditions are satisfied; (i) the crossover from the hadronic matter to the quark matter takes place at around three times the normal nuclear matter density, and (ii) the quark matter is strongly interacting in the crossover region and has stiff equation of state. This is in contrast to the conventional approach assuming the first order phase transition in which the EOS becomes always soft due to the presence of the quark matter at high density. Although the choice of the hadronic EOS does not affect the above conclusion on the maximum mass, the three-body force among nucleons and hyperons plays an essential role for the onset of the hyperon mixing and the cooling of neutron stars.

Hadron-Quark Crossover and Massive Hybrid Stars with Strangeness

Using the idea of a smooth crossover from the hadronic matter with hyperons to quark matter with strangeness, we show that the maximum mass of neutron stars with quark matter core can be larger than those without quark matter core. This is in contrast to the conventional softening of equation of state due to exotic components at high density. Essential conditions to reach our conclusion are (i) the crossover takes place at relatively low densities, around 3 times the normal nuclear density, and (ii) the quark matter is strongly interacting in the crossover region. By these, the pressure of the system can be greater than that of purely hadronic matter in the crossover region and leads to the maximum mass greater than 2 solar mass. This conclusion is insensitive to the different choice of the hadronic equation of state with hyperons. Several implications of this result to the nuclear incompressibility, the hyperon mixing, and the neutrino cooling are also remarked.
