Extra-natural inflation is (de)constructed. Explicit models are compared with cosmological observations. The models successfully achieve trans-Planckian inflaton field excursions.
An inflation model based on dimensional (de)construction of a massive gauge theory is proposed. The inflaton in this model is the "zero-mode" of a component of the massive gauge field in the (de)constructed extra dimensions. The inflaton potential originates from the gauge invariant Stueckelberg potential. At low energy, the field range of the inflaton is enhanced by a factor $N^{\frac{d}{2}}$ compared to the field range of the original fields in the model, where $d$ is the number of the (de)constructed extra dimensions and $N$ is the number of the lattice points in each (de)constructed dimension. This enhancement of the field range is used to achieve a trans-Planckian inflaton field excursion. The extension of the mechanism ``excursions through KK modes'' to the case of (de)constructed extra dimensions is also studied. The burst of particle productions by this mechanism may have observable consequences in a region of the model parameter space.
In this article we study Kaluza-Klein (KK) dimensional reduction of massive Abelian gauge theories with charged matter fields on a circle. Since local gauge transformations change position dependence of the charged fields, the decomposition of the charged matter fields into KK modes is gauge dependent. While whole KK mass spectrum is independent of the gauge choice, the mode number depends on the gauge. The masses of the KK modes also depend on the field value of the zero-mode of the extra dimensional component of the gauge field. In particular, one of the KK modes in the KK tower of each massless 5D charged field becomes massless at particular values of the extra-dimensional component of the gauge field. When the extra-dimensional component of the gauge field is identified with the inflaton, this structure leads to recursive cosmological particle productions.
We continue our investigation of large field inflation models obtained from higher-dimensional gauge theories, initiated in our previous study arXiv:1407.1951. We focus on Dante's Inferno model which was the most preferred model in our previous analysis. We point out the relevance of the IR obstruction to UV completion, which constrains the form of the potential of the massive vector field, under the current observational upper bound on the tensor to scalar ratio. We also show that in simple examples of the potential arising from DBI action of a D5-brane and that of an NS5-brane that the inflation takes place in the field range which is within the convergence radius of the Taylor expansion. This is in contrast to the well known examples of axion monodromy inflation where inflaton takes place outside the convergence radius of the Taylor expansion. This difference arises from the very essence of Dante's Inferno model that the effective inflaton potential is stretched in the inflaton field direction compared with the potential for the original field.
Motivated by the recent detection of B-mode polarization of CMB by BICEP2 which is possibly of primordial origin, we study large field inflation models which can be obtained from higher-dimensional gauge theories. The constraints from CMB observations on the gauge theory parameters are given, and their naturalness are discussed. Among the models analyzed, Dante's Inferno model turns out to be the most preferred model in this framework.
The interrelation between inflationary cosmology and new physics beyond the Standard Model (SM) is studied in a $U(1)_{B-L}$ extension of the SM embedded in a (4+1)-dimensional spacetime. In the scenario we study, the inflaton arises from the Wilson loop of the $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge group winding an extra-dimensional cycle. Particular attention is paid to the coupling between the inflaton and SM particles that are confined on a brane localised in the extra dimension. We find that the inflaton decay channels are rather restricted in this scenario and the resulting reheating temperature is relatively low.
We study the Affleck-Dine (AD) baryogenesis in the inflating curvaton scenario, when the curvaton is a moduli field with O($10-10^2$TeV) mass. A moduli field with such mass is known to be free from the Polonyi problem, and furthermore its decay products can explain the present cold dark matter abundance. In our scenario, it further explains the primordial curvature perturbation and the present baryon density all together. The current observational bound on the baryon isocurvature perturbation, which severely constrains the AD baryogenesis with the original oscillating moduli curvaton scenario, is shown to put practically negligible constraint if we replace the oscillating curvaton with the inflating curvaton.
We construct classical solutions in quiver gauge theories on D0-branes probing toric del Pezzo singularities in Calabi-Yau manifolds. Our solutions represent D4-branes wrapped around fuzzy del Pezzo surfaces. We study the fluctuation spectrum around the fuzzy CP^2 solution in detail. We also comment on possible applications of our fuzzy del Pezzo surfaces to the fuzzy version of F-theory, dubbed F(uzz) theory.
We propose gauge-Higgs unification in fuzzy extra dimensions as a possible solution to the Higgs naturalness problem. In our approach, the fuzzy extra dimensions are created spontaneously as a vacuum solution of certain four-dimensional gauge theory. As an example, we construct a model which has a fuzzy torus as its vacuum. The Higgs field in our model is associated with the Wilson loop wrapped on the fuzzy torus. We show that the quadratic divergence in the mass of the Higgs field in the one-loop effective potential is absent. We then argue based on symmetries that the quantum corrections to the Higgs mass is suppressed including all loop contributions. We also consider a realization on the worldvolume theory of D3-branes probing $C^3/(Z_N \times Z_N)$ orbifold with discrete torsion.
We continue our investigation on the Nambu-Poisson description of M5-brane in a large constant C-field background (NP M5-brane theory) constructed in Refs.[1, 2]. In this paper, the low energy limit where the NP M5-brane theory is applicable is clarified. The background independence of the NP M5-brane theory is made manifest using the variables in the BLG model of multiple M2-branes. An all order solution to the Seiberg-Witten map is also constructed.
The derivation of the self-dual relations for the two-form gauge field in the Nambu-bracket description of M5-brane in a constant C-field background initiated in arXiv:0907.4596 is completed by including contributions from all the fields in the M5-brane action. The result is used to examine Seiberg-Witten map of the BPS conditions for the string solitons, up to the first order in the expansion by the parameter $g$ which characterizes the strength of the interactions through the Nambu-bracket.
We analyze the reorganization of free field theory correlators to closed string amplitudes investigated in hep-th/0308184 hep-th/0402063 hep-th/0409233 hep-th/0504229 in the case of Euclidean thermal field theory and study how the dual bulk geometry is encoded on them. The expectation value of Polyakov loop, which is an order parameter for confinement-deconfinement transition, is directly reflected on the dual bulk geometry. The dual geometry of confined phase is found to be AdS space periodically identified in Euclidean time direction. The gluing of Schwinger parameters, which is a key step for the reorganization of field theory correlators, works in the same way as in the non-thermal case. In deconfined phase the gluing is made possible only by taking the dual geometry correctly. The dual geometry for deconfined phase does not have a non-contractible circle in the Euclidean time direction.
There are several equivalent descriptions for constant B-field background of open string. The background can be interpreted as constant B-field as well as constant gauge field strength or infinitely many D-branes with non-commuting Chan-Paton matrices. In this article, the equivalence of these open string theories is studied in Witten's cubic open string field theory. Through the map between these equivalent descriptions, both algebra of non-commutative coordinates as well as Chan-Paton matrix algebra are identified with subalgebras of open string field algebra.
The spacetime superalgebra via the supermembrane probe in the background of AdS_4 \times S^7 is discussed to the lowest order in the spinor coordinate $\t$. To obtain the correct spacetime superalgebras, all $\t^2$ order corrections for supervielbein and super 3-form gauge potential have to be included. The central extension of the superalgebra OSp(8|4) of the super isometries for AdS_4 \times S^7 is found.
