Limit theorems for quasi-arithmetic means of random variables with applications to point estimations for the Cauchy distribution

We establish some limit theorems for quasi-arithmetic means of random variables. This class of means contains the arithmetic, geometric and harmonic means. Our feature is that the generators of quasi-arithmetic means are allowed to be complex-valued, which makes considerations for quasi-arithmetic means of random variables which could take negative values possible. Our motivation for the limit theorems is finding simple estimators of the parameters of the Cauchy distribution. By applying the limit theorems, we obtain some closed-form unbiased strongly-consistent estimators for the joint of the location and scale parameters of the Cauchy distribution, which are easy to compute and analyze.

An equivalence criterion for infinite products of Cauchy measures

We give an equivalence-singularity criterion for infinite products of Cauchy measures under simultaneous shifts of the location and scale parameters. Our result is an extension of Lie and Sullivan's result giving an equivalence-singularity criterion under dilations of scale parameters. Our proof utilizes McCullagh's parameterization of the Cauchy distributions and maximal invariant, and a closed-form formula of the Kullback-Leibler divergence between two Cauchy measures given by Chyzak and Nielsen.

Bahadur efficiency of the maximum likelihood estimator and one-step estimator for quasi-arithmetic means of the Cauchy distribution

Some quasi-arithmetic means of random variables easily give unbiased strongly consistent closed-form estimators of the joint of the location and scale parameters of the Cauchy distribution. The one-step estimators of those quasi-arithmetic means of the Cauchy distribution are considered. We establish the Bahadur efficiency of the maximum likelihood estimator and the one-step estimators. We also show that the rate of the convergence of the mean-squared errors achieves the Cramer-Rao bound. Our results are also applicable to the circular Cauchy distribution.

Hausdorff dimensions for graph-directed measures driven by infinite rooted trees

We give upper and lower bounds for the Hausdorff dimensions for a class of graph-directed measures when its underlying directed graph is the infinite N-ary tree. These measures are different from graph-directed self-similar measures driven by finite directed graphs and are not necessarily Gibbs measures. However our class contains several measures appearing in fractal geometry and functional equations, specifically, measures defined by restrictions of non-constant harmonic functions on the two-dimensional SierpĂnski gasket, the Kusuoka energy measures on it, and, measures defined by solutions of de Rham's functional equations driven by linear fractional transformations.

Long time behavior of the volume of the Wiener sausage on Dirichlet spaces

In the present paper, we consider long time behaviors of the volume of the Wiener sausage on Dirichlet spaces. We focus on the volume of the Wiener sausage for diffusion processes on metric measure spaces other than the Euclid space equipped with the Lebesgue measure. We obtain the growth rate of the expectations and almost sure behaviors of the volumes of the Wiener sausages on metric measure Dirichlet spaces satisfying Ahlfors regularity and sub-Gaussian heat kernel estimates. We show that the growth rate of the expectations on a "bounded" modification of the Euclidian space is identical with the one on the Euclidian space equipped with the Lebesgue measure. We give an example of a metric measure Dirichlet space on which a scaled of the means fluctuates.

On regularity for de Rham's functional equations

We consider regularity for solutions of a class of de Rham's functional equations. Under some smoothness conditions of functions consisting the equation, we improve some results in Hata (Japan J. Appl. Math. 1985). Our results are applicable to some cases that the functions consisting the equation are non-linear functions on an interval, specifically, polynomials and linear fractional transformations. Our results imply singularity of some well-known singular functions, in particular, Minkowski's question-mark function, and, some small perturbed functions of the singular functions.

A new generalization of the Takagi function

We consider a one-parameter family of functions $\{F(t,x)\}_{t}$ on $[0,1]$ and partial derivatives $\partial_{t}^{k} F(t, x)$ with respect to the parameter $t$. Each function of the class is defined by a certain pair of two square matrices of order two. The class includes the Lebesgue singular functions and other singular functions. Our approach to the Takagi function is similar to Hata and Yamaguti. The class of partial derivatives $\partial_{t}^{k} F(t, x)$ includes the original Takagi function and some generalizations. We consider real-analytic properties of $\partial_{t}^{k} F(t, x)$ as a function of $x$, specifically, differentiability, the Hausdorff dimension of the graph, the asymptotic around dyadic rationals, variation, a question of local monotonicity and a modulus of continuity. Our results are extensions of some results for the original Takagi function and some generalizations.

Aftershocks and Omori's law in a modified Carlson-Langer model with nonlinear visco-elasticity

A modified Carlson-Langer model for earthquakes is proposed, which includes nonlinear visco-elasticity. Several aftershocks are generated after the main shock owing to the damping of the additional visco-elastic force. Both the Gutenberg-Richter law and Omori's law are reproduced in a numerical simulation of the modified Carlson-Langer model on a critical percolation cluster of a square lattice.

Large deviations for simple random walk on percolations with long-range correlations

We show quenched large deviations for the simple random walk on a certain class of percolations with long-range correlations. This class contains the supercritical Bernoulli percolations, the model considered by Drewitz, R'ath and Sapozhnikov and the random-cluster model up to the slab critical point. Our result is an extension of Kubota's result for the supercritical Bernoulli percolations. We also state a shape theorem for the chemical distance, which is an extension of Garet and Marchand's result for the supercritical Bernoulli percolations.

On the range of random walk on graphs satisfying a uniform condition

We consider the range of random walks up to time n, R_n, on graphs satisfying a uniform condition. This condition is characterized by potential theory. Not only all vertex transitive graphs but also many non-regular graphs satisfy the condition. We show certain weak laws of R_n from above and below. We also show that there is a graph such that it satisfies the condition and a sequence of the mean of R_n/n fluctuates. By noting the construction of the graph, we see that under the condition, the weak laws are best in a sense.

Singularity results for functional equations driven by linear fractional transformations

We consider functional equations driven by linear fractional transformations, which are special cases of de Rham's functional equations. We consider Hausdorff dimension of the measure whose distribution function is the solution. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for singularity. We also show that they have a relationship with stationary measures.
