The structure of the Sally module of integrally closed ideals

The first two Hilbert coefficients of a primary ideal play an important role in commutative algebra and in algebraic geometry. In this paper we give a complete algebraic structure of the Sally module of integrally closed ideals $I$ in a Cohen-Macaulay local ring $A$ satisfying the equality $\mathrm{e}_1(I)=\mathrm{e}_0(I)-\ell_A(A/I)+\ell_A(I^2/QI)+1, $ where $Q$ is a minimal reduction of $I$, and $\mathrm{e}_0(I)$ and $\mathrm{e}_1(I)$ denote the first two Hilbert coefficients of $I, $ respectively the multiplicity and the Chern number of $I$. This almost extremal value of $\mathrm{e}_1(I) $ with respect classical inequalities holds a complete description of the homological and the numerical invariants of the associated graded ring. Examples are given.

Sectional genera of parameter ideals

Let $M$ be a finitely generated module over a Noetherian local ring. This paper reports, for a given parameter ideal $Q$ for $M$, a criterion for the equality ${\mathrm{g}}_s(Q;M)=\operatorname{hdeg}_Q(M)-{\mathrm{e}}_Q^0(M)-{\mathrm{T}}_Q^1(M)$, where ${\mathrm{g}}_s(Q;M)$, ${\mathrm{e}}_Q^0(M)$, ${\mathrm{e}}_Q^1(M)$, and ${\mathrm{T}}_Q^1(M)$ respectively denote the sectional genus, the multiplicity, the first Hilbert coefficient, and the Homological torsion of $M$ with respect to $Q$.

The Chern Numbers and Euler Characteristics of Modules

The set of the first Hilbert coefficients of parameter ideals relative to a module--its Chern coefficients--over a local Noetherian ring codes for considerable information about its structure--noteworthy properties such as that of Cohen-Macaulayness, Buchsbaumness, and of having finitely generated local cohomology. The authors have previously studied the ring case. By developing a robust setting to treat these coefficients for unmixed rings and modules, the case of modules is analyzed in a more transparent manner. Another series of integers arise from partial Euler characteristics and are shown to carry similar properties of the module. The technology of homological degree theory is also introduced in order to derive bounds for these two sets of numbers.

The first Euler characteristics versus the homological degrees

Let $M$ be a finitely generated module over a Noetherian local ring. This paper reports, for a given parameter ideal $Q$ for $M$, a criterion for the equality $χ_1(Q;M)=\operatorname{hdeg}_Q(M)-\mathrm{e}_Q^0(M)$, where $χ_1(Q;M)$, $\operatorname{hdeg}_Q(M)$, and $\mathrm{e}_Q^0(M)$ respectively denote the first Euler characteristic, the homological degree, and the multiplicity of $M$ with respect to $Q$. We also study homological torsions of $M$ and give a criterion for a certain equality of the first Hilbert coefficients of parameters and the homological torsions of $M$.

The second Hilbert coefficients and the homological torsions of parameters

Let $M$ be a finitely generated module over a Noetherian local ring. This paper gives, for a given parameter ideal $Q$ for $M$, bounds for the second Hilbert coefficients ${\mathrm{e}}_Q^2(M)$ in terms of the homological degrees and torsions of modules. We also report a criterion for a certain equality of the second Hilbert coefficients of parameters and the homological torsions of modules.

Ulrich ideals and modules over two-dimensional rational singularities

The main aim of this paper is to classify Ulrich ideals and Ulrich modules over two-dimensional Gorenstein rational singularities (rational double points) from a geometric point of view. To achieve this purpose, we introduce the notion of (weakly) special Cohen-Macaulay modules with respect to ideals, and study the relationship between those modules and Ulrich modules with respect to good ideals.
