An elementary counterexample to a coefficient conjecture

In this article, we consider the family of functions $f$ meromorphic in the unit disk $\ID=\{z :\,|z| < 1\}$ with a pole at the point $z=p$, a Taylor expansion \[f(z)= z+\sum_{k=2}^{\infty} a_kz^k, \quad |z|<p, \] and satisfying the condition \[\left |\left(\frac{z}{f(z)}\right)-z\left(\frac{z}{f(z)}\right)'-1\right |<λ,\, \forall z\in\ID, \] for some $λ$, $0<λ< 1$. We denote this class by $\mathcal{U}_m(λ)$ and we shall prove a representation theorem for the functions in this class. As consequences, we get a simple proof for the estimates of $|a_2|$ and obtain inequalities for the initial coefficients of the Laurent series of $f\in \mathcal{U}_m(λ)$ at its pole. In \cite{PW2} it had been conjectured that for $f\in \mathcal{U}_m(λ)$ the inequalities \[|a_n|\,\leq\,\frac{1}{p^{n-1}}\sum_{k=0}^{n-1}(λp^2)^k, \quad n\geq 2 \] are valid. We provide a counterexample to this conjecture for the case $n=3$.

Bohr type inequalities for functions with a multiple zero at the origin

Recently, there has been a number of good deal of research on the Bohr's phenomenon in various setting including a refined formulation of his classical version of the inequality. Among them, in \cite{PaulPopeSingh-02-10} the authors considered the cases in which the above functions have a multiple zero at the origin. In this article, we present a refined version of Bohr's inequality for these cases and give a partial answer to a question from \cite{PaulPopeSingh-02-10} for the revised setting.

Refinement of the Classical Bohr Inequality

The classical inequality of Bohr asserts that if a power series converges in the unit disk and its sum has modulus less than or equal to $1$, then the sum of absolute values of its terms is less than or equal to $1$ for the subdisk $|z|<1/3$ and $1/3$ is the best possible constant. Recently, there has been a number of investigations on this topic. In this article, we present a refined version of Bohr's inequality along with few other related improved versions of previously known results.

On relations between the classes $\mathcal S$ and $\mathcal U$

Let ${\mathcal A}$ denote the family of all functions $f$ analytic in the unit disk $\ID$ and satisfying the normalization $f(0)=0= f'(0)-1$. Let $\mathcal{S}$ denote the subclass of ${\mathcal A}$ consisting of univalent functions in $\ID$. We consider the subclass $\mathcal{U} $ of $\mathcal{S}$ that is defined by the condition that for its members $f$ the condition $$\left |\left (\frac{z}{f(z)} \right )^{2}f'(z)-1\right | < 1 ~\mbox{ for $z\in \ID$} $$ holds. To theses relations belong striking similarities and on the other hand big differences. We show that some results about $\mathcal{S}$ can be improved for $\mathcal{U}$, while others cannot.

Geometric studies on the class ${\mathcal U}(λ)$

The article deals with the family ${\mathcal U}(λ)$ of all functions $f$ normalized and analytic in the unit disk such that $\big |\big (z/f(z)\big )^{2}f'(z)-1\big |<λ$ for some $0<λ\leq 1$. The family ${\mathcal U}(λ)$ has been studied extensively in the recent past and functions in this family are known to be univalent in $\ID$. However, the problem of determining sharp bounds for the second coefficients of functions in this family was solved recently in \cite{VY2013} by Vasudevarao and Yanagihara but the proof was complicated. In this article, we first present a simpler proof. We obtain a number of new subordination results for this family and their consequences. In addition, we show that the family ${\mathcal U}(λ)$ is preserved under a number of elementary transformations such as rotation, conjugation, dilation and omitted value transformations, but surprisingly this family is not preserved under the $n$-th root transformation for any $n\geq 2$. This is a basic here which helps to generate a number of new theorems and in particular provides a way for constructions of functions from the family ${\mathcal U}(λ)$. Finally, we deal with a radius problem.

Where is $f(z)/f'(z)$ univalent?

Let ${\mathcal S}$ denote the family of all univalent functions $f$ in the unit disk $\ID$ with the normalization $f(0)=0= f'(0)-1$. There is an intimate relationship between the operator $P_f(z)=f(z)/f'(z)$ and the Danikas-Ruscheweyh operator $T_f:=\int_{0}^{z}(tf'(t)/f(t))\,dt$. In this paper we mainly consider the univalence problem of $F=P_f$, where $f$ belongs to some subclasses of ${\mathcal S}$. Among several sharp results and non-sharp results, we also show that if $f\in {\mathcal S}$, then $F \in {\mathcal U}$ in the disk $|z|<r$ with $r\leq r_6\approx 0.360794$ and conjecture that the upper bound for such $r$ is $\sqrt{2}-1$.
