Nucleon and ΔΔ resonances in γn→K+Σ−γn \to K^+Σ^- photoproduction

The most recent data on beam asymmetries, ΣΣ, and beam-target asymmetries, EE, from the CLAS Collaboration, together with the previous data on differential cross sections and beam asymmetries from the CLAS and LEPS Collaborations, for the γn→K+Σ−γn \to K^+Σ^- reaction are studied based on an effective Lagrangian approach in the tree-level Born approximation. The tt-channel KK and K∗(892)K^\ast(892) exchanges, the uu-channel ΣΣ exchange, the interaction current, and the exchanges of NN, ΔΔ, and their excited states in the ss channel are considered in constructing the reaction amplitudes to describe the available experimental data. The reaction mechanisms of γn→K+Σ−γn \to K^+Σ^- are analyzed, and the associated resonances' parameters are extracted. The numerical results show that the ΔΔ exchange and the N(1710)1/2+N(1710)1/2^+, N(1880)1/2+N(1880)1/2^+, N(1900)3/2+N(1900)3/2^+, and Δ(1920)3/2+Δ(1920)3/2^+ resonance exchanges in the ss-channel dominate the γn→K+Σ−γn \to K^+Σ^- reaction in the lower energy region, and the tt-channel K∗(892)K^\ast(892) exchange plays a crucial role at forward angles in the higher energy region.

Strange Hadron Spectroscopy with Secondary KL Beam in Hall D

We propose to create a secondary beam of neutral kaons in Hall D at Jefferson Lab to be used with the GlueX experimental setup for strange hadron spectroscopy. The superior CEBAF electron beam will enable a flux on the order of 1×104 KL/sec1\times 10^4~K_L/sec, which exceeds the flux of that previously attained at SLAC by three orders of magnitude. The use of a deuteron target will provide first measurements ever with neutral kaons on neutrons. The experiment will measure both differential cross sections and self-analyzed polarizations of the produced ΛΛ, ΣΣ, ΞΞ, and ΩΩ hyperons using the GlueX detector at the Jefferson Lab Hall D. The measurements will span CM cos⁡θ\cosθ from −0.95-0.95 to 0.95 in the range W = 1490 MeV to 2500 MeV. The new data will significantly constrain the partial wave analyses and reduce model-dependent uncertainties in the extraction of the properties and pole positions of the strange hyperon resonances, and establish the orbitally excited multiplets in the spectra of the ΞΞ and ΩΩ hyperons. Comparison with the corresponding multiplets in the spectra of the charm and bottom hyperons will provide insight into he accuracy of QCD-based calculations over a large range of masses. The proposed facility will have a defining impact in the strange meson sector through measurements of the final state KπKπ system up to 2 GeV invariant mass. This will allow the determination of pole positions and widths of all relevant K∗(Kπ)K^\ast(Kπ) SS-,PP-,DD-,FF-, and GG-wave resonances, settle the question of the existence or nonexistence of scalar meson κ/K0∗(700)κ/K_0^\ast(700) and improve the constrains on their pole parameters. Subsequently improving our knowledge of the low-lying scalar nonet in general.

Model-independent aspects of the reaction Kˉ+N→K+Ξ\bar{K} + N \to K + Ξ

Various model-independent aspects of the KˉN→KΞ\bar{K} N \to K Ξ reaction are investigated, starting from the determination of the most general structure of the reaction amplitude for ΞΞ baryons with JP=12±J^P=\frac12^\pm and 32±\frac32^\pm and the observables that allow a complete determination of these amplitudes. Polarization observables are constructed in terms of spin-density matrix elements. Reflection symmetry about the reaction plane is exploited, in particular, to determine the parity of the produced ΞΞ in a model-independent way. In addition, extending the work of Biagi et al. [Z.Phys. C34,175(1987)]\mathrm{\textit{et al. } [Z. Phys.\ C \textbf{34}, 175 (1987)]}, a way is presented of determining simultaneously the spin and parity of the ground state of ΞΞ baryon as well as those of the excited ΞΞ states.

Gauge-invariant theory of two-pion photo- and electro-production off the nucleon

A field-theoretical description of the photoproduction of two pions off the nucleon is presented that applies to real as well as virtual photons in the one-photon approximation. The Lorentz-covariant theory is complete at the level of all explicit Faddeev-type three-body final-state mechanisms of dressed interacting hadrons, including those of the nonlinear Dyson-Schwinger type. All electromagnetic currents are constructed to satisfy their respective (generalized) Ward-Takahashi identities and thus satisfy local gauge invariance as a matter of course. The Faddeev-type ordering structure results in a natural expansion of the full two-pion photoproduction current $\Mpp^μ$ in terms of multiple loops that preserve gauge invariance order by order in the number of loops, which in turn lends itself naturally to practical applications of increasing sophistication with increasing number of loops.

Production and parity determination of ΞΞ baryons

To understand the structure of hadrons and their production mechanisms, it is very important to be able to identify their quantum numbers. For investigating the spin and parity quantum numbers of ΞΞ and ΩΩ baryons, in particular, it is very important to understand strong interactions in the strangeness sector. At present, such quantum numbers are known for only a few of the ΞΞ baryons, and even the parity of the ground state Ξ(1318)Ξ(1318) has never been measured. In this article, we present a novel, model-independent way to determine the parity of ΞΞ baryons solely based on symmetry considerations for the hadronic reaction KˉN→KΞ\bar{K} N \to K Ξ.
