We give a characterization of a contact metric manifold as a special almost contact metric manifold and discuss an almost contact metric manifold which is {a} natural generalization of the contact metric manifolds introduced by Y. Tashiro.
We say that a germ G of a geometric structure can be transplanted into a manifold M if there is a suitable geometric structure on M which agrees with G on a neighborhood of some point P of M. We show for a wide variety of geometric structures that this transplantation is always possible provided that M does in fact admit some such structure of this type. We use this result to show that a curvature identity which holds in the category of compact manifolds admitting such a structure holds for germs as well and we present examples illustrating this result. We also use this result to show geometrical realization problems which can be solved for germs of structures can in fact be solved in the compact setting as well.
We relate certain universal curvature identities for Kaehler manifolds to the Euler-Lagrange equations of the scalar invariants which are defined by pairing characteristic forms with powers of the Kaehler form.
The paper "Minimal unit vector fields" by O. Gil-Medrano and E. Llinares-Fuster \cite{GilLli1}. is a seminal paper in the field that has been cited by many authors. It contains, however, a minor technical mistake in Theorem 14 that is important to fix. In this short note, we will provide a correction to that result.
We examine universal curvature identities for pseudo-Riemannian manifolds with boundary. We determine the Euler-Lagrange equations associated to the Chern-Gauss-Bonnet formula and show that they are given solely in terms of curvature {and the second fundamental form and do not involve covariant derivatives thus generalizing a conjecture of Berger to this context.
We study scalar and symmetric 2-form valued universal curvature identities. We use this to establish the Gauss-Bonnet theorem using heat equation methods, to give a new proof of a result of Kuz'mina and Labbi concerning the Euler-Lagrange equations of the Gauss-Bonnet integral, and to give a new derivation of the Euh-Park-Sekigawa identity.
We give a curvature identity derived from the generalized Gauss-Bonnet formula for 4-dimensional compact oriented Riemannian manifolds. We prove that the curvature identity holds on any 4-dimensional Riemannian manifold which is not necessarily compact. We also provide some applications of the identity.
A weakly Einstein manifold is a generalization of a 4-dimensional Einstein manifold, which is defined as an application of a curvature identity derived from the generalized Gauss-Bonnet formula for a 4-dimensional compact oriented Riemannian manifold. In this paper, we shall give a characterization of a weakly Einstein manifold.
