Kondo Force in Shuttling Devices: Dynamical Probe for a Kondo Cloud

We consider electromechanical properties of a single-electronic device consisting of movable quantum dot attached to a vibrating cantilever, forming a tunnel contact with a non-movable source electrode. We show that the resonance Kondo tunneling of electrons amplify exponentially the strength of nanoelectromechanical (NEM) coupling in such device and makes the latter to be insensitive to mesoscopic fluctuations of electronic levels in a nano-dot. It is also shown that the study of Kondo-NEM phenomenon provides an additional (as compared with a standard conductance measurements in a non-mechanical device) information on retardation effects in formation of many-particle cloud accompanied the Kondo tunneling. A possibility for superhigh tunability of mechanical dissipation as well as supersensitive detection of mechanical displacement is demonstrated.

Electron self-trapping in intermediate-valent SmB6

SmB6 exhibits intermediate valence in the ground state and unusual behaviour at low temperatures. The resistivity and the Hall effect cannot be explained either by conventional sf-hybridization or by hopping transport in an impurity band. At least three different energy scales determine three temperature regimes of electron transport in this system. We consider the ground state properties, the soft valence fluctuations and the spectrum of band carriers in n-doped SmB6. The behaviour of excess conduction electrons in the presence of soft valence fluctuations and the origin of the three energy scales in the spectrum of elementary excitations is discussed. The carriers which determine the low-temperature transport in this system are self-trapped electron-polaron complexes rather than simply electrons in an impurity band. The mechanism of electron trapping is the interaction with soft valence fluctuations.

Spin diffusion and relaxation in three-dimensional isotropic Heisenberg antiferromagnets

A theory is proposed for kinetic effects in isotropic Heisenberg antiferromagnets at temperatures above the Neel point. A metod based on the analysis of a set of Feynman diagrams for the kinetic coefficients is developed for studying the critical dynamics. The scaling behavior of the generalized coefficient of spin diffusion and relaxation constant in the paramagnetic phase is studied in terms of the approximation of coupling modes. It is shown that the kinetic coefficients in an antiferromagnetic system are singular in the fluctuation region. The corresponding critical indices for diffusion and relaxation processes are calculated. The scaling dimensionality of the kinetic coefficients agrees with the predictions of dynamic scaling theory and a renormalization group analysis. The proposed theory can be used to study the momentum and frequency dependence of the kinetic parameters, and to determine the form of the scaling functions. The role of nonlocal correlations and spin-liquid effects in magnetic systems is briefly discussed.
