A fully-nonlinear flow and quermassintegral inequalities in the sphere

This expository paper presents the current knowledge of particular fully nonlinear curvature flows with local forcing term, so-called locally constrained curvature flows. We focus on the spherical ambient space. The flows are designed to preserve a quermassintegral and to de-/increase the other quermassintegrals. The convergence of this flow to a round sphere would settle the full set of quermassintegral inequalities for convex domains of the sphere, but a full proof is still missing. Here we collect what is known and hope to attract wide attention to this interesting problem.

Mean curvature flow in null hypersurfaces and the detection of MOTS

We study the mean curvature flow in 3-dimensional null hypersurfaces. In a spacetime a hypersurface is called null, if its induced metric is degenerate. The speed of the mean curvature flow of spacelike surfaces in a null hypersurface is the projection of the codimension-two mean curvature vector onto the null hypersurface. We impose fairly mild conditions on the null hypersurface. Then for an outer un-trapped initial surface, a condition which resembles the mean-convexity of a surface in Euclidean space, we prove that the mean curvature flow exists for all times and converges smoothly to a marginally outer trapped surface (MOTS). As an application we obtain the existence of a global foliation of the past of an outermost MOTS, provided the null hypersurface admits an un-trapped foliation asymptotically.

Orlicz-Minkowski flows

We study the long-time existence and behavior for a class of anisotropic non-homogeneous Gauss curvature flows whose stationary solutions, if exist, solve the regular Orlicz-Minkowski problems. As an application, we obtain old and new results for the regular even Orlicz-Minkowski problems; the corresponding $L_p$ version is the even $L_p$-Minkowski problem for $p>-n-1$. Moreover, employing a parabolic approximation method, we give new proofs of some of the existence results for the general Orlicz-Minkowski problems; the $L_p$ versions are the even $L_p$-Minkowski problem for $p>0$ and the $L_p$-Minkowski problem for $p>1$. In the final section, we use a curvature flow with no global term to solve a class of $L_p$-Christoffel-Minkowski type problems.

Parabolic approaches to curvature equations

We employ curvature flows without global terms to seek strictly convex, spacelike solutions of a broad class of elliptic prescribed curvature equations in the simply connected Riemannian spaceforms and the Lorentzian de Sitter space, where the prescribed function may depend on the position and the normal vector. In particular, in the Euclidean space we solve a class of prescribed curvature measure problems, intermediate $L_p$-Aleksandrov and dual Minkowski problems as well as their counterparts, namely the $L_{p}$-Christoffel-Minkowski type problems. In some cases we do not impose any condition on the anisotropy except positivity, and in the remaining cases our condition resembles the constant rank theorem/convexity principle due to Caffarelli-Guan-Ma (Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 60 (2007), 1769--1791). Our approach does not rely on monotone entropy functionals and it is suitable to treat curvature problems that do not possess variational structures.

Negatively Curved Three-Manifolds, Hyperbolic Metrics, Isometric Embeddings In Minkowski Space And The Cross Curvature Flow

This short note is a mostly expository article examining negatively curved three-manifolds. We look at some rigidity properties related to isometric embeddings into Minkowski space. We also review the Cross Curvature Flow (XCF) as a tool to study the space of negatively curved metrics on hyperbolic three-manifolds, the largest and least understood class of model geometries in Thurston's Geometrisation. The relationship between integrability and embedability yields interesting insights, and we show that solutions with fixed Einstein volume are precisely the integrable solutions, answering a question posed by Chow and Hamilton when they introduced the XCF.

Alexandrov-Fenchel inequalities for convex hypersurfaces with free boundary in a ball

In this paper we first introduce quermassintegrals for free boundary hypersurfaces in the $(n+1)$-dimensional Euclidean unit ball. Then we solve some related isoperimetric type problems for convex free boundary hypersurfaces, which lead to new Alexandrov-Fenchel inequalities. In particular, for $n=2$ we obtain a Minkowski-type inequality and for $n=3$ we obtain an optimal Willmore-type inequality. To prove these estimates, we employ a specifically designed locally constrained inverse harmonic mean curvature flow with free boundary.

Harnack inequalities for curvature flows in Riemannian and Lorentzian manifolds

We obtain Harnack estimates for a class of curvature flows in Riemannian manifolds of constant non-negative sectional curvature as well as in the Lorentzian Minkowski and de Sitter spaces. Furthermore, we prove a Harnack estimate with a bonus term for mean curvature flow in locally symmetric Riemannian Einstein manifold of non-negative sectional curvature. Using a concept of "duality" for strictly convex hypersurfaces, we also obtain a new type of inequalities, so-called "pseudo"-Harnack inequalities, for expanding flows in the sphere and in the hyperbolic space.

Pinching and asymptotical roundness for inverse curvature flows in Euclidean space

We consider inverse curvature flows in the $(n+1)$-dimensional Euclidean space, $n\geq 2,$ expanding by arbitrary negative powers of a 1-homogeneous, monotone curvature function $F$ with some concavity properties. We obtain asymptotical roundness, meaning that circumradius minus inradius of the flow hypersurfaces decays to zero and that the flow becomes close to a flow of spheres.

Gradient estimates for inverse curvature flows in hyperbolic space

We prove gradient estimates for hypersurfaces in the hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^{n+1},$ expanding by negative powers of a certain class of homogeneous curvature functions. We obtain optimal gradient estimates for hypersurfaces evolving by certain powers $p>1$ of $F^{-1}$ and smooth convergence of the properly rescaled hypersurfaces. In particular, the full convergence result holds for the inverse Gauss curvature flow of surfaces without any further pinching condition besides convexity of the initial hypersurface.
