Anisotropic Lifshitz holography in Einstein-Proca theory with stable negative mass spectrum

In this article we focus on constructing a new family of spatially anisotropic Lifshitz spacetimes with arbitrary dynamical exponent z and constant negative curvature in d+1 dimensions within the framework of the Einstein-Proca theory. The constructed metric tensor depends on both the spacetime dimensionality and the critical exponent, while the curvature scalar depends just on the number of dimensions. We also obtained a novel spectrum with negative squared mass that respects the corresponding Breitenlohner-Freedman bound. Hence these new solutions are stable and can be useful within the gravity/condensed matter theory holographic duality, since the spectrum with negative squared mass is complementary to the positive ones already known in the literature.

Exact solutions for optimal execution of portfolios transactions and the Riccati equation

We propose two methods to obtain exact solutions for the Almgren-Chriss model about optimal execution of portfolio transactions. In the first method we rewrite the Almgren-Chriss equation and find two exact solutions. In the second method, employing a general reparametrized time, we show that the Almgren-Chriss equation can be reduced to some known equations which can be exactly solved in different cases. For this last case we obtain a quantity conserved. In addition, we show that in both methods the Almgren-Chriss equation is equivalent to a Riccati equation.

The dengue fever in four municipalities of the Colima state, Mexico, from 2008 to 2015 and its relation with some climatological normals

Although dengue fever is an ancient disease that should have been eradicated since time ago, in Mexico as well as in other regions worldwide the cases of classic and hemorrhagic dengue continue to be reported presently. Since 2002 (and before), a worrying outbreak of dengue was observed in several states of Mexico, notably the case of Colima for which a "descacharrizacion" campaign was implemented in 2009 to encourage the population to get rid of old objects accumulated in their backyards and outdoors so as to prevent proliferation of mosquitoes Aedes Aegypti. To understand the effect of such campaign, we studied the incidence of dengue in four municipalities of the mentioned state, namely Manzanillo, Armeria, Tecoman and Ixtlahuacan. In particular, we observed that the incidence of dengue in these four municipalities had a strong relationship with climatological normals, specifically precipitation and minimum temperature. Furthermore, the results showed that the mentioned campaign helped prevent mosquito eggs incubation and their development, thus leading to reduction of the incidence of dengue in the human population.

Lifshitz field theories, Snyder noncomutative space-time and momentum dependent metric

In this work, we propose three different modified relativistic particles. In the first case, we propose a particle with metrics depending on the momenta and we show that the quantum version of these systems includes different field theories, as Lifshitz field theories. As a second case we propose a particle that implies a modified symplectic structure and we show that the quantum version of this system gives different noncommutative space-times, for example the Snyder space-time. In the third case, we combine both structures before mentioned, namely noncommutative space-times and momentum dependent metrics. In this last case, we show that anisotropic field theories can be seen as a limit of noncommutative field theory.

Dendrites and conformal symmetry

Progress toward characterization of structural and biophysical properties of neural dendrites together with recent findings emphasizing their role in neural computation, has propelled growing interest in refining existing theoretical models of electrical propagation in dendrites while advocating novel analytic tools. In this paper we focus on the cable equation describing electric propagation in dendrites with different geometry. When the geometry is cylindrical we show that the cable equation is invariant under the Schrödinger group and by using the dendrite parameters, a representation of the Schrödinger algebra is provided. Furthermore, when the geometry profile is parabolic we show that the cable equation is equivalent to the Schrödinger equation for the 1-dimensional free particle, which is invariant under the Schrödinger group. Moreover, we show that there is a family of dendrite geometries for which the cable equation is equivalent to the Schrödinger equation for the 1-dimensional conformal quantum mechanics.

Hamiltonian analysis for Lifshitz type Fields

Using the Dirac Method, we study the Hamiltonian consistency for three field theories. First we study the electrodynamics a la Hořava and we show that this system is consistent for an arbitrary dynamical exponent $z.$ Second, we study a Lifshitz type electrodynamics, which was proposed in [1]. For this last system we found that the canonical momentum and the electrical field are related through a Proca type Green function, however this system is consistent. In addition, we show that the anisotropic Yang-Mills theory with dynamical exponent $z=2$ is consistent. Finally, we study a generalized anisotropic Yang-Mills theory and we show that this last system is consistent too.

Relativistic conformal symmetry of neural field propagation in the brain

In this paper, we address a neural field equation that characterizes spatio-temporal propagation of a neural population pulse. Due that the human brain is a complex system whose constituents interaction give rise to fundamental states of consciousness and behavior, it is crucial to gain insight into its functioning even at relativistic scales. To this end, we study the action of the relativistic conformal group on the accounted neural field propagation equation. In particular, we obtain an exact solution for the field propagation equation when the space-time is 3 or 4 dimensional. Furthermore, in the 4 dimensional case and the large distance limit, it is shown that the neural population pulse becomes a Yukawa potential.

Schrödinger group and quantum finance

Using the one dimensional free particle symmetries, the quantum finance symmetries are obtained. Namely, it is shown that Black-Scholes equation is invariant under Schrödinger group. In order to do this, the one dimensional free non-relativistic particle and its symmetries are revisited. To get the Black-Scholes equation symmetries, the particle mass is identified as the inverse of square of the volatility. Furthermore, using financial variables, a Schrödinger algebra representation is constructed.

Conformal quantum mechanics and Fick-Jacobs equation

It is found a relation between conformal quantum mechanics and Fick-Jacobs equation, which describes diffusion in channels. This relation is given between a family of channels and a family of conformal Hamiltonians. In addition, it is shown that a conformal Hamiltonian is associated with two channels with different geometry. Furthermore exact solutions for Fick-Jacobs equation are given for this family of channels.

Principle action for particles faster than light

A general action for particles faster than light is presented. It is demonstrated that this action is invariant under reparametrizations. For several cases, it is shown that in the high velocity regime the action is invariant under anisotropic space-time transformation and at quantum level the system has fractal behavior. For those cases, it is shown that the action describes a particle in Finsler geometry and equivalent to one dimensional field theory in a curved space, where the metric depends on temporal derivatives.

Very special relativity as particle in a gauge field and two-time physics

The action for a $(3+1)$-dimensional particle in very special relativity is studied. It is proved that massless particles only travel in effective $(2+1)$-dimensional space-time. It is remarkable that this action can be written as an action for a relativistic particle in a background gauge field and it is shown that this field causes the dimensional reduction. A new symmetry for this system is found. Furthermore, a general action with restored Lorentz symmetry is proposed for this system. It is shown that this new action contains very special relativity and two-time physics.

Lorentz violation, Two times physics and Strings

We study a recently proposed generalization of the relativistic particle by Kostelecký, that includes explicit Lorentz violation. We present an alternative action for this system and we show that this action can be interpreted as a particle in curved space with a metric that depends on the Lagrange multipliers. Furthermore, the following results are established for this model: (i) there exists a limit where this system has more local symmetries that the usual relativistic particle; (ii) in this limit if we restore the Lorentz symmetry we obtain a direct relationship with the two time physics; (iii) also we show that if we intent to restore the Poincaré symmetry we obtain the action of the relativistic bosonic string.

The Black-Scholes Equation and Certain Quantum Hamiltonians

In this paper a quantum mechanics is built by means of a non-Hermitian momentum operator. We have shown that it is possible to construct two Hermitian and two non-Hermitian type of Hamiltonians using this momentum operator. We can construct a generalized supersymmetric quantum mechanics that has a dual based on these Hamiltonians. In addition, it is shown that the non-Hermitian Hamiltonians of this theory can be related to Hamiltonians that naturally arise in the so-called quantum finance.

Electrodynamics a la Horava

We study an electrodynamics consistent with anisotropic transformations of space-time with an arbitrary dynamic exponent $z$. The equations of motion and conserved quantities are explicitly obtained. We show that the propagator of this theory can be regarded as a quantum correction to the usual propagator. Moreover we obtain that both the momentum and angular momentum are not modified, but their conservation laws do change. We also show that in this theory the speed of light and the electric charge are modified with $z$. The magnetic monopole in this electrodynamics and its duality transformations are also investigated. For that we found that there exists a dual electrodynamics, with higher derivatives in the electric field, invariant under the same anisotropic transformations.

Is it possible to relate MOND with Horava Gravity?

In this work we present a scalar field theory invariant under space-time anisotropic transformations with a dynamic exponet $z$. It is shown that this theory possess symmetries similar to Horava gravity and that in the limit $z=0$ the equations of motion of the non-relativistic MOND theory are obtained. This result allow us to conjecture the existence of a Horava type gravity that in the limit $z=0$ is consistent with MOND.

PT-Rotations, PT-Spherical Harmonics and the PT-Hydrogen Atom

We have constructed a set of non-Hermitian operators that satisfy the commutation relations of the SO(3)-Lie algebra. It is shown that this operators generate rotations in the configuration space and not in the momentum space but in a modified non-Hermitian momentum space. This generators are related with a new type of spherical harmonics that result to be PT-orthonormal. Additionally, we have shown that this operators represent conserved quantities for a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian with an additional complex term. As a particular case, the solutions of the corresponding PT-Hydrogen atom that includes a complex term are obtained, and it is found that a non-Hermitian Runge-Lenz vector is a conserved quantity. In this way, we obtain a set of non-Hermitian operators that satisfy the SO(4)-Lie algebra.

Conformal Anisotropic Mechanics

In this paper we implement scale anisotropic transformations in the space-time in classical mechanics. The resulting system is consistent with the dispersion relation of gravity at a Lifshitz point recently considered in arXiv:0901.3775. Also, we show that our model is a generalization of the conformal mechanics of Alfaro, Fubini and Furlan. For arbitrary $z$ we construct the dynamical symmetries that correspond to the Schroedinger algebra. Furthermore, we obtain the Boltzman distribution for a gas of free particles compatible with anisotropic scaling transformations and compare our result with the corresponding thermodynamics of the recent anisotropic black branes proposed in arXiv:0907.4755.

Cosmological Constant and Noncommutativity: A Newtonian point of view

We study a Newtonian cosmological model in the context of a noncommutative space. It is shown that the trajectories of a test particle undergo modifications such that it no longer satisfies the cosmological principle. For the case of a positive cosmological constant, spiral trajectories are obtained and corrections to the Hubble constant appear. It is also shown that, in the limit of a strong noncommutative parameter, the model is closely related to a particle in a Gödel-type metric.

The Kepler problem and non commutativity

We investigate the Kepler problem using a symplectic structure consistent with the commutation rules of the noncommutative quantum mechanics. We show that a noncommutative parameter of the order of $10^{-58} \text m^2$ gives observable corrections to the movement of the solar system. In this way, modifications in the physics of smaller scales implies modifications at large scales, something similar to the UV/IR mixing.

Boundary conditions as constraints

A new method to compute the symplectic structure of a quantum field theory with non trivial boundary conditions is proposed. Following the suggestion in \cite{ho:gnus, ardalan}, we regard that the boundary conditions are second class constraints in the sense of the Dirac's method. However, we show that this proposal is more useful if we consider an inverse of the Holographic map between a theory defined in the boundary to another with constraints but without boundary.
