Backward Reconstruction of the Chafee--Infante Equation via Physics-Informed WGAN-GP

We present a physics-informed Wasserstein GAN with gradient penalty (WGAN-GP) for solving the inverse Chafee--Infante problem on two-dimensional domains with Dirichlet boundary conditions. The objective is to reconstruct an unknown initial condition from a near-equilibrium state obtained after 100 explicit forward Euler iterations of the reaction-diffusion equation \[ u_t - γΔu + κ\left(u^3 - u\right)=0. \] Because this mapping strongly damps high-frequency content, the inverse problem is severely ill-posed and sensitive to noise. Our approach integrates a U-Net generator, a PatchGAN critic with spectral normalization, Wasserstein loss with gradient penalty, and several physics-informed auxiliary terms, including Lyapunov energy matching, distributional statistics, and a crucial forward-simulation penalty. This penalty enforces consistency between the predicted initial condition and its forward evolution under the \emph{same} forward Euler discretization used for dataset generation. Earlier experiments employing an Eyre-type semi-implicit solver were not compatible with this residual mechanism due to the cost and instability of Newton iterations within batched GPU training. On a dataset of 50k training and 10k testing pairs on $128\times128$ grids (with natural $[-1,1]$ amplitude scaling), the best trained model attains a mean absolute error (MAE) of approximately \textbf{0.23988159} on the full test set, with a sample-wise standard deviation of about \textbf{0.00266345}. The results demonstrate stable inversion, accurate recovery of interfacial structure, and robustness to high-frequency noise in the initial data.

Exponential Decay Results for Semilinear Parabolic PDE with $C^0$ Potentials: A "Mean Value" Approach

The asymptotic behavior of some semilinear parabolic PDEs is analyzed by means of a "mean value" property. This property allows us to determine, by means of appropriate {\em{a priori}} estimates, some exponential decay results for suitable global solutions. We also apply the method to investigate a well-known finite time blow-up result. An application is given to a one-dimensional semilinear parabolic PDE with boundary degeneracy. Our results shed further light onto the problem of determining initial data for which the corresponding solution is guaranteed to exponentially decay to zero or blow-up in finite time.

Robust Exponential Attractors for Coleman--Gurtin Equations with Dynamic Boundary Conditions Possessing Memory

The well-posedness of a generalized Coleman--Gurtin equation equipped with dynamic boundary conditions with memory was recently established by the author with C.G. Gal. In this article we report advances concerning the asymptotic behavior and stability of this heat transfer model. For the model under consideration, we obtain a family of exponential attractors that is robust/Hölder continuous with respect to a perturbation parameter occurring in a singularly perturbed memory kernel. We show that the basin of attraction of these exponential attractors is the entire phase space. The existence of (finite dimensional) global attractors follows. The results are obtained by assuming the nonlinear terms defined on the interior of the domain and on the boundary satisfy standard dissipation assumptions. Also, we work under a crucial assumption that dictates the memory response in the interior of the domain matches that on the boundary.

Attractors for Strongly Damped Wave Equations with Nonlinear Hyperbolic Dynamic Boundary Conditions

We establish the well-posedness of a strongly damped semilinear wave equation equipped with nonlinear hyperbolic dynamic boundary conditions. Results are carried out with the presence of a parameter distinguishing whether the underlying operator is analytic, $α>0$, or only of Gevrey class, $α=0$. We establish the existence of a global attractor for each $α\in[0,1],$ and we show that the family of global attractors is upper-semicontinuous as $α\rightarrow0.$ Furthermore, for each $α\in[0,1]$, we show the existence of a weak exponential attractor. A weak exponential attractor is a finite dimensional compact set in the weak topology of the phase space. This result insures the corresponding global attractor also possess finite fractal dimension in the weak topology; moreover, the dimension is independent of the perturbation parameter $α$. In both settings, attractors are found under minimal assumptions on the nonlinear terms.

Coleman-Gurtin type equations with dynamic boundary conditions

We present a new formulation and generalization of the classical theory of heat conduction with or without fading memory which includes the usual heat equation subject to a dynamic boundary condition as a special case. We investigate the well-posedness of systems which consist of Coleman-Gurtin type equations subject to dynamic boundary conditions, also with memory. Nonlinear terms are defined on the interior of the domain and on the boundary and subject to either classical dissipation assumptions, or to a nonlinear balance condition in the sense of [11]. Additionally, we do not assume that the interior and the boundary share the same memory kernel.

Hyperbolic Relaxation of Reaction Diffusion Equations with Dynamic Boundary Conditions

Under consideration is the hyperbolic relaxation of a semilinear reaction-diffusion equation on a bounded domain, subject to a dynamic boundary condition. We also consider the limit parabolic problem with the same dynamic boundary condition. Each problem is well-posed in a suitable phase space where the global weak solutions generate a Lipschitz continuous semiflow which admits a bounded absorbing set. We prove the existence of a family of global attractors of optimal regularity. After fitting both problems into a common framework, a proof of the upper-semicontinuity of the family of global attractors is given as the relaxation parameter goes to zero. Finally, we also establish the existence of exponential attractors.
