The ancestral selection graph for a $Λ$-asymmetric Moran model

Motivated by the question of the impact of selective advantage in populations with skewed reproduction mechanims, we study a Moran model with selection. We assume that there are two types of individuals, where the reproductive success of one type is larger than the other. The higher reproductive success may stem from either more frequent reproduction, or from larger numbers of offspring, and is encoded in a measure $Λ$ for each of the two types. Our approach consists of constructing a $Λ$-asymmetric Moran model in which individuals of the two populations compete, rather than considering a Moran model for each population. Under certain conditions, that we call the "partial order of adaptation", we can couple these measures. This allows us to construct the central object of this paper, the $Λ-$asymmetric ancestral selection graph, leading to a pathwise duality of the forward in time $Λ$-asymmetric Moran model with its ancestral process. Interestingly, the construction also provides a connection to the theory of optimal transport. We apply the ancestral selection graph in order to obtain scaling limits of the forward and backward processes, and note that the frequency process converges to the solution of an SDE with discontinous paths. Finally, we derive a Griffiths representation for the generator of the SDE and use it to find a semi-explicit formula for the probability of fixation of the less beneficial of the two types.

Double continuation regions for American options under Poisson exercise opportunities

We consider the Lévy model of the perpetual American call and put options with a negative discount rate under Poisson observations. Similar to the continuous observation case as in De Donno et al. [24], the stopping region that characterizes the optimal stopping time is either a half-line or an interval. The objective of this paper is to obtain explicit expressions of the stopping and continuation regions and the value function, focusing on spectrally positive and negative cases. To this end, we compute the identities related to the first Poisson arrival time to an interval via the scale function and then apply those identities to the computation of the optimal strategies. We also discuss the convergence of the optimal solutions to those in the continuous observation case as the rate of observation increases to infinity. Numerical experiments are also provided.

Effects of positive jumps of assets on endogenous bankruptcy and optimal capital structure: Continuous- and periodic-observation models

In this paper, we study the optimal capital structure model with endogenous bankruptcy when the firm's asset value follows an exponential Lévy process with positive jumps. In the Leland-Toft framework \cite{LelandToft96}, we obtain the optimal bankruptcy barrier in the classical continuous-observation model and the periodic-observation model, recently studied by Palmowski et al.\ \cite{palmowski2019leland}. We further consider the two-stage optimization problem of obtaining the optimal capital structure. Detailed numerical experiments are conducted to study the sensitivity of the firm's decision-making with respect to the observation frequency and positive jumps of the asset value.

The Leland-Toft optimal capital structure model under Poisson observations

We revisit the optimal capital structure model with endogenous bankruptcy first studied by Leland \cite{Leland94} and Leland and Toft \cite{Leland96}. Differently from the standard case, where shareholders observe continuously the asset value and bankruptcy is executed instantaneously without delay, we assume that the information of the asset value is updated only at intervals, modeled by the jump times of an independent Poisson process. Under the spectrally negative Lévy model, we obtain the optimal bankruptcy strategy and the corresponding capital structure. A series of numerical studies are given to analyze the sensitivity of observation frequency on the optimal solutions, the optimal leverage and the credit spreads.

Optimality of refraction strategies for a constrained dividend problem

We consider de Finetti's problem for spectrally one-sided Lévy risk models with control strategies that are absolutely continuous with respect to the Lebesgue measure. Furthermore, we consider the version with a constraint on the time of ruin. To characterize the solution to the aforementioned models, we first solve the optimal dividend problem with a terminal value at ruin and show the optimality of threshold strategies. Next, we introduce the dual Lagrangian problem and show that the complementary slackness conditions are satisfied, characterizing the optimal Lagrange multiplier. Finally, we illustrate our findings with a series of numerical examples.

On the Free Fractional Wishart Process

We investigate the process of eigenvalues of a fractional Wishart process defined as N=B*B, where B is a matrix fractional Brownian motion recently studied by Nualart and Pérez-Abreu. Using stochastic calculus with respect to the Young integral we show that the eigenvalues do not collide at any time with probability one. When the matrix process B has entries given by independent fractional Brownian motions with Hurst parameter $H\in(1/2,1)$ we derive a stochastic differential equation in a Malliavin calculus sense for the eigenvalues of the corresponding fractional Wishart process. Finally a functional limit theorem for the empirical measure-valued process of eigenvalues of a fractional Wishart process is obtained. The limit is characterized and referred to as the free fractional Wishart process which constitutes the family of fractional dilations of the free Poisson distribution.
