Semiclassical limits, Lagrangian states and coboundary equations

Assume that ff is a continuous transformation f:S1→S1f:S^1 \to S^1. We consider here the cases where ff is either the transformation f(z)=z2f(z)=z^2 or ff is a smooth diffeomorphism of the circle S1S^1. Consider a fixed continuous potential τ:S1=[0,1)→Rτ:S^1=[0,1) \to \mathbb{R}, ν∈Rν\in \mathbb{R} and φ:S1→Cφ:S^1 \to \mathbb{C} (a quantum state). The transformation F^ν\hat F_ν acting on φ:S1→Cφ:S^1 \to \mathbb{C}, F^ν(φ)=ϕ\hat F_ν(φ) = ϕ, defined by ϕ(z)=F^ν(φ(z))=φ(f(z))eiντ(z)\displaystyle ϕ(z) = \hat F_ν (φ(z)) = φ(f(z))e^{iντ(z)} describes a discrete time dynamical evolution of the quantum state φφ. Given S:R→RS: \mathbb{R}\to \mathbb{R} we define the Lagrangian state φxS(z)=∑k∈ZeiS(z−k)ℏe−(z−k−x)24ℏ.φ_{x}^S(z) = \sum_{k\in\mathbb{Z}} e^{\frac{iS (z-k)}{\hbar}} e^{-\frac{(z-k-x)^2}{4\hbar}}. In this case F^ν(φxS(z))=∑k∈ZeiS(f(z)−k)ℏe−(f(z)−k−x)24ℏeiντ(z)\hat F_ν(φ_{x}^S(z)) = \sum_{k\in\mathbb{Z}}e^{\frac{iS (f(z)-k)}{\hbar}}e^{-\frac{(f(z)-k-x)^2}{4\hbar}}e^{iντ(z)}. Under suitable conditions on SS the micro-support of φxS(z)φ^S_x (z), when ℏ→0\hbar \to 0, is (x,S′(x))(x,S'(x)). One of meanings of the semiclassical limit in Quantum Mechanics is to take ν=1ℏν=\frac{1}{\hbar} and ℏ→0\hbar \to 0. We address the question of finding SS such that φxSφ^S_x satisfies the property: ∀x \forall x, we have that F^ν(φxS)\hat{F}_ν(φ^S_x) has micro-support on the graph of y→S′(y)y\to S'(y) (which is the micro-support of φxSφ^S_x). In other words: which SS is such that F^ν\hat{F}_ν leaves the micro-support of φxSφ^S_x invariant? This is related to a coboundary equation for ττ, twist conditions and the boundary of the fat attractor.

Entropy and Variational Principle for one-dimensional Lattice Systems with a general a-priori probability: positive and zero temperature

We generalize several results of the classical theory of Thermodynamic Formalism by considering a compact metric space MM as the state space. We analyze the shift acting on MNM^\mathbb{N} and consider a general a-priori probability for defining the Transfer (Ruelle) operator. We study potentials AA which can depend on the infinite set of coordinates in MN.M^\mathbb{N}. We define entropy and by its very nature it is always a nonpositive number. The concepts of entropy and transfer operator are linked. If M is not a finite set there exist Gibbs states with arbitrary negative value of entropy. Invariant probabilities with support in a fixed point will have entropy equal to minus infinity. In the case M=S1M=S^1, and the a-priori measure is Lebesgue dxdx, the infinite product of dxdx on (S1)N(S^1)^\mathbb{N} will have zero entropy. We analyze the Pressure problem for a Hölder potential AA and its relation with eigenfunctions and eigenprobabilities of the Ruelle operator. Among other things we analyze the case where temperature goes to zero and we show some selection results. Our general setting can be adapted in order to analyze the Thermodynamic Formalism for the Bernoulli space with countable infinite symbols. Moreover, the so called XY model also fits under our setting. In this last case M is the unitary circle S1S^1. We explore the differentiable structure of (S1)N(S^1)^\mathbb{N} by considering potentials which are of class C1C^1 and we show some properties of the corresponding main eigenfunctions.

Continuous time finite state mean field games

In this paper we consider symmetric games where a large number of players can be in any one of d states. We derive a limiting mean field model and characterize its main properties. This mean field limit is a system of coupled ordinary differential equations with initial-terminal data. For this mean field problem we prove a trend to equilibrium theorem, that is convergence, in an appropriate limit, to stationary solutions. Then we study the N+1N+1-player problem, which the mean field model attempts to approximate. Our main result is the convergence as N→∞N\to \infty of the mean field model and an estimate of the rate of convergence. We end the paper with some further examples for potential mean field games.

Mean field limit of a continuous time finite state game

Mean field games is a recent area of study introduced by Lions and Lasry in a series of seminal papers in 2006. Mean field games model situations of competition between large number of rational agents that play non-cooperative dynamic games under certain symmetry assumptions. They key step is to develop a mean field model, in a similar way that what is done in statistical physics in order to construct a mathematically tractable model. A main question that arises in the study of such mean field problems is the rigorous justification of the mean field models by a limiting procedure. In this paper we consider the mean field limit of two-state Markov decision problem as the number of players N→∞N\to \infty. First we establish the existence and uniqueness of a symmetric partial information Markov perfect equilibrium. Then we derive a mean field model and characterize its main properties. This mean field limit is a system of coupled ordinary differential equations with initial-terminal data. Our main result is the convergence as N→∞N\to \infty of the NN player game to the mean field model and an estimate of the rate of convergence.

Wigner measures and the semi-classical limit to the Aubry-Mather measure

In this paper we investigate the asymptotic behavior of the semi-classical limit of Wigner measures defined on the tangent bundle of the one-dimensional torus. In particular we show the convergence of Wigner measures to the Mather measure on the tangent bundle, for energy levels above the minimum of the effective Hamiltonian. The Wigner measures μhμ_h we consider are associated to ψh,ψ_h, a distinguished critical solution of the Evans' quantum action given by ψh=ah eiuhhψ_h=a_h\,e^{i\frac{u_h}h}, with ah(x)=evh∗(x)−vh(x)2ha_h(x)=e^{\frac{v^*_h(x)-v_h(x)}{2h}}, uh(x)=P⋅x+vh∗(x)+vh(x)2,u_h(x)=P\cdot x+\frac{v^*_h(x)+v_h(x)}{2}, and vh,vh∗v_h,v^*_h satisfying the equations -\frac{h\, Δv_h}{2}+ 1/2 \, | P + D v_h \,|^2 + V &= \bar{H}_h(P), \frac{h\, Δv_h^*}{2}+ 1/2 \, | P + D v_h^* \,|^2 + V &= \bar{H}_h(P), where the constant Hˉh(P)\bar{H}_h(P) is the hh effective potential and xx is on the torus. L.\ C.\ Evans considered limit measures ∣ψh∣2|ψ_h|^2 in Tn\mathbb{T}^n, when h→0h\to 0, for any n≥1n\geq 1. We consider the limit measures on the phase space Tn×Rn\mathbb{T}^n\times\mathbb{R}^n, for n=1n=1, and, in addition, we obtain rigorous asymptotic expansions for the functions vhv_h, and vh∗v^*_h, when h→0h\to 0.
