Morse structures on open books

We use parameterized Morse theory on the pages of an open book decomposition to efficiently encode the contact topology in terms of a labelled graph on a disjoint union of tori (one per binding component). This construction allows us to generalize the notion of the front projection of a Legendrian knot from the standard contact $\mathbb{R}^3$ to arbitrary closed contact $3$-manifolds. We describe a complete set of moves on such front diagrams, extending the standard Legendrian Reidemeister moves, and we give a combinatorial formula to compute the Thurston-Bennequin number of a nullhomologous Legendrian knot from its front projection.

Heegaard Floer homology of (n,n)-torus links: computations and questions

In this article we study the Heegaard Floer link homology of $(n, n)$-torus links. The Alexander multigradings which support non-trivial homology form a string of $n-1$ unit hypercubes in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$, and we compute the ranks and gradings of the homology in nearly all Alexander gradings. We also conjecture a complete description of the link homology and provide some support for this conjecture. This article is taken from the author's 2007 Ph.D. thesis and contains several open questions.

Rational Seifert Surfaces in Seifert Fibered Spaces

Rationally null-homologous links in Seifert fibered spaces may be represented combinatorially via labeled diagrams. We introduce an additional condition on a labeled link diagram and prove that it is equivalent to the existence of a rational Seifert surface for the link. In the case when this condition is satisfied, we generalize Seifert's algorithm to explicitly construct a rational Seifert surface for any rationally null-homologous knot. As an application of the techniques developed in the paper, we derive closed formulae for the rational Thurston-Bennequin and rotation numbers of a Legendrian knot in a contact Seifert fibered space.

Legendrian Contact Homology in Seifert Fibered Spaces

We define a differential graded algebra associated to Legendrian knots in Seifert fibered spaces with transverse contact structures. This construction is distinguished from other combinatorial realizations of contact homology invariants by the existence of orbifold points in the Reeb orbit space of the contact manifold. These orbifold points are images of the exceptional fibers of the Seifert fibered manifold, and they play a key role in the definitions of the differential and the grading, as well as the proof of invariance. We apply the invariant to distinguish Legendrian knots whose homology is torsion and whose underlying topological knot types are isotopic; such examples exist in any sufficiently complicated contact Seifert fibered space.

Legendrian grid number one knots and augmentations of their differential algebras

In this article we study the differential graded algebra (DGA) invariant associated to Legendrian knots in tight lens spaces. Given a grid number one diagram for a knot in L(p, q), we show how to construct a special Lagrangian diagram suitable for computing the DGA invariant for the Legendrian knot specified by the diagram. We then specialize to L(p, p - 1) and show that for two families of knots, the existence of an augmentation of the DGA depends solely on the value of p.
