Schatten-von Neumann properties for Hörmander classes on compact Lie groups

Let $G$ be a compact Lie group of dimension $n.$ In this work we characterise the membership of classical pseudo-differential operators on $G$ in the trace class ideal $S_{1}(L^2(G)),$ as well as in the setting of the Schatten ideals $S_{r}(L^2(G)),$ for all $r>0.$ In particular, we deduce Schatten characterisations of elliptic pseudo-differential operators of $(ρ,δ)$-type for the large range $0\leq δ<ρ\leq 1.$ Additional necessary and sufficient conditions are given in terms of the matrix-valued symbols of the operators, which are global functions on the phase space $G\times \widehat{G},$ with the momentum variables belonging to the unitary dual $\widehat{G}$ of $G$. In terms of the parameters $(ρ,δ),$ on the torus $\mathbb{T}^n,$ we demonstrate the sharpness of our results showing the existence of atypical operators in the exotic class $Ψ^{-\varkappa}_{0,0}(\mathbb{T}^n),$ $\varkappa>0,$ belonging to all the Schatten ideals. Additional order criteria are given in the setting of classical pseudo-differential operators. We present also some open problems in this setting.

An excursion to multiplications and convolutions on modulation spaces

We give a self-contained introduction to (quasi-)Banach modulation spaces of ultradistributions, and review results on boundedness for multiplications and convolutions for elements in such spaces. Furthermore, we use these results to study the Gabor product. As an example, we show how it appears in a phase-space formulation of the nonlinear cubic Schrödinger equation.

Wick and anti-Wick characterizations of linear operators on spaces of power series expansions

We study the link between Wick, anti-Wick and analytic kernel operators on the Bargmann transform side. We find classes of kernels, e.g. $\wideparen {\mathcal B} _s$, whose corresponding operators agree with the sets of linear and continuous operators on $\mathcal A _s$, the images of Pilipovi{ć} under the Bargmann transform. We show that in several situations, the sets of Wick, anti-Wick and kernel operators with symbols and kernels in $\wideparen {\mathcal B} _s$ agree. We also show some ring, module and composition properties for $\wideparen {\mathcal B} _s$, and similarly for other spaces related to $\wideparen {\mathcal B} _s$.

Pseudo-differential operators with isotropic symbols, Wick and anti-Wick operators, and hypoellipticity

We study the link between pseudo-differential operators and Wick operators via the Bargmann transform. We deduce a formula for the symbol of the Wick operator in terms of the short-time Fourier transform of the Weyl symbol. This gives characterizations of Wick symbols of pseudo-differential operators of Shubin type and of infinite order, and results on composition. We prove a series expansion of Wick operators in anti-Wick operators which leads to a sharp Gårding inequality and transition of hypoellipticity between Wick and and Shubin symbols. Finally we show continuity results for anti-Wick operators, and estimates for the Wick symbols of anti-Wick operators.

The Zak transform and Wiener estimates on Gelfand-Shilov and modulation spaces with applications to operator theory

We characterize Gelfand-Shilov spaces, their distribution spaces and modulation spaces in terms of estimates of their Zak transforms. We use these result for general investigations of quasi-periodic functions and distributions. We also establish necessary and sufficient conditions for linear operators in order for these operators should be conjugations by the Zak transform.

Continuity and Schatten properties for pseudo-differential operators with symbols in quasi-Banach modulation spaces or Hörmander classes

We establish continuity and Schatten-von Neumann properties for matrix operators with matrices satisfying mixed quasi-norm estimates. These considerations also include the case when the Lebesgue and Schatten parameters are allowed to stay between $0$ and $1$. We use the results to deduce continuity and Schatten-von Neumann properties for pseudo-differential operators with symbols in a broad class of modulation spaces.

Factorizations and singular value estimates of operators with Gelfand-Shilov and Pilipović kernels

We prove that any linear operator with kernel in a Pilipović or Gelfand-Shilov space can be factorized by two operators in the same class. We also give links on numerical approximations for such compositions. We apply these composition rules to deduce estimates of singular values and establish Schatten-von Neumann properties for such operators.

Images of function and distribution spaces under the Bargmann transform

We consider a broad family of test function spaces and their dual (distribution) space. The family includes Gelfand-Shilov spaces, a family of test function spaces introduced by S. Pilipovic. We deduce different characterizations of such spaces, especially under the Bargmann transform and the Short-time Fourier transform. The family also include a test function space, whose dual space is mapped by the Bargmann transform bijectively to the set of entire functions.

Matrix parameterized pseudo-differential calculi on modulation spaces

We consider a broad matrix parameterized family of pseudo-differential calculi, containing the usual Shubin's family of pseudo-differential calculi, parameterized by real numbers. We show that continuity properties in the framework of modulation space theory, valid for the Shubin's family extend to the broader matrix parameterized family of pseudo-differential calculi.

Schatten properties, nuclearity and minimality of shift invariant spaces

We extend Feichtinger's minimality property on smallest non-trivial time-frequency shift invariant Banach spaces, to the quasi-Banach case. Analogous properties are deduced for certain matrix classes. We use these results to prove that $\operatorname{Op}(a)$ is a Schatten-$q$ operator from $M^\infty$ to $M^p$ and $r$-nuclear operator from $M^\infty$ to $M^r$ when $a\in M^r$ for suitable $p$, $q$ and $r$ in $(0,\infty ]$.

The Bargmann transform and powers of harmonic oscillator on Gelfand-Shilov subspaces

We consider the counter images $\maclJ (\rr d)$ and $\maclJ _0(\rr d)$ of entire functions with exponential and almost exponential bounds, respectively, under the Bargmann transform, and we characterize them by estimates of powers of the harmonic oscillator. We also consider the Pilipovi{ć} spaces $\bsycalS _s(\rr d)$ and $\bsySig _s(\rr d)$ when $0<s<1/2$ and deduce their images under the Bargmann transform.

Boundedness for Gevrey and Gelfand-Shilov kernels to positive operators

We study properties of positive operators on Gelfand-Shilov spaces, and distributions which are positive with respect to non-commutative convolutions. We prove that boundedness of kernels $K \in \maclD_s^{\prime}$ to positive operators, are completely determined by the behaviour of $K$ alone the diagonal. We also prove that positive elements $a$ in $\mascS^{\prime}$ with respect to twisted convolutions, having Gevrey class property of order $s\geq 1/2$ at the origin, then $a$ belongs to the Gelfand-Shilov space $\maclS_s$.

Global wave-front sets of Banach, Fr{é}chet and Modulation space types, and pseudo-differential operators

We introduce global wave-front sets $\operatorname{WF}_{\mathcal B} (f)$, $f\in {\mathscr S}^\prime(\textbf{R}^d)$, with respect to suitable Banach or Fréchet spaces ${\mathcal B}$. An important special case is given by the modulation spaces ${\mathcal B}=M(ω,\mathscr B)$, where $ω$ is an appropriate weight function and $\mathscr B$ is a translation invariant Banach function space. We show that the standard properties for known notions of wave-front set extend to $\operatorname{WF}_{\mathcal B} (f)$. In particular, we prove that micro locality and microellipticity hold for a class of globally defined pseudo-differential operators $\operatorname{Op}_t(a)$, acting continuously on the involved spaces.

On the inverse to the harmonic oscillator

Let $b_d$ be the Weyl symbol of the inverse to the harmonic oscillator on $\R^d$. We prove that $b_d$ and its derivatives satisfy convenient bounds of Gevrey and Gelfand-Shilov type, and obtain explicit expressions for $b_d$. In the even-dimensional case we characterize $b_d$ in terms of elementary functions. In the analysis we use properties of radial symmetry and a combination of different techniques involving classical a priori estimates, commutator identities, power series and asymptotic expansions.

Fisher Information for Inverse Problems and Trace Class Operators

This paper provides a mathematical framework for Fisher information analysis for inverse problems based on Gaussian noise on infinite-dimensional Hilbert space. The covariance operator for the Gaussian noise is assumed to be trace class, and the Jacobian of the forward operator Hilbert-Schmidt. We show that the appropriate space for defining the Fisher information is given by the Cameron-Martin space. This is mainly because the range space of the covariance operator always is strictly smaller than the Hilbert space. For the Fisher information to be well-defined, it is furthermore required that the range space of the Jacobian is contained in the Cameron-Martin space. In order for this condition to hold and for the Fisher information to be trace class, a sufficient condition is formulated based on the singular values of the Jacobian as well as of the eigenvalues of the covariance operator, together with some regularity assumptions regarding their relative rate of convergence. An explicit example is given regarding an electromagnetic inverse source problem with "external" spherically isotropic noise, as well as "internal" additive uncorrelated noise.

Micro-local analysis in some spaces of ultradistributions

In this paper we extend some results from our earlier papers on wave-front sets, concerning wave-front sets of Fourier-Lebesgue and modulation space types, to a broader class of spaces of ultradistributions, and relate these wave-front sets with the usual wave-front sets of ultradistributions. Furthermore, we use Gabor frames for the description of discrete wave-front sets, and prove that these wave-front sets coincide with corresponding continuous ones.

The Bargmann transform on a broad family of Banach spaces, with applications to Toeplitz and pseudo-differential operators

We investigate mapping properties for the Bargmann transform on modulation spaces whose weights and their reciprocals are allowed to grow faster than exponentials. We prove that this transform is isometric and bijective from modulation spaces to convenient Lebesgue spaces of analytic functions. We use this to prove that such modulation spaces fulfill most of the continuity properties which are well-known when the weights are moderated. Finally we use the results to establish continuity properties of Toeplitz and pseudo-differential operators in the context of these modulation spaces.

The Range of Localization Operators and Lifting Theorems for Modulation and Bargmann-Fock Spaces

We study the range of time-frequency localization operators acting on modulation spaces and prove a lifting theorem. As an application we also characterize the range of Gabor multipliers, and, in the realm of complex analysis, we characterize the range of certain Toeplitz operators on weighted Bargmann-Fock spaces. The main tools are the construction of canonical isomorphisms between modulation spaces of Hilbert-type and a refined version of the spectral invariance of pseudodifferential operators. On the technical level we prove a new class of inequalities for weighted gamma functions.

Changes of variables in modulation and Wiener amalgam spaces

In this paper various properties of global and local changes of variables as well as properties of canonical transforms are investigated on modulation and Wiener amalgam spaces. We establish several relations among localisations of modulation and Wiener amalgam spaces and, as a consequence, we obtain several versions of local and global Beurling-Helson type theorems. We also establish a number of positive results such as local boundedness of canonical transforms on modulation spaces, properties of homogeneous changes of variables, and local continuity of Fourier integral operators on Fourier Lebesgue spaces. Finally, counterparts of these results are discussed for spaces on the torus as well as for weighted spaces.
