1-jettiness with jet axis at $O(α_s)$ in jeep inelastic scattering

We present $O(α_s)$ analytic predictions for event shape 1-jettiness $τ_1$ distribution aiming measurements in deep inelastic scattering process at future Electron Ion Colliders. The result depends on conventional variables $x$ and $Q$ as well as on $τ_1$ and is relatively compact and easy to implement for numerical calculation. Three different choices of axis, with respect to which $τ_1$ is measured are considered in the Breit frame. The first is the one optimally adjusted to minimize $τ_1$ and the second and third are taken from anti-$k_T$ and Centauro jet algorithms defined with a jet radius parameter $R$, respectively. We find that the first and second give the same result at this order and are independent of $R$, while the third depends on the radius. This fixed-order result provides a nonsingular contribution to be combined with a singular log-resummed contribution to give the full spectrum in $τ_1$ space and also shows how fixed-order and resummation regions change as a function of $x$ and $Q$.

Implication of two-baryon azimuthal correlations in $pp$ collisions at LHC energies on the QGP

The near-side depression in two-proton or two-antiproton azimuthal correlations in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=$7 TeV has been observed experimentally and then qualitatively reproduced in our earlier studies with a multi-phase transport model. In this study, we further investigate the origin of the depression feature in two-baryon correlations in small collision systems. We find that the initial parton-level spatial correlation, a finite expansion in the parton stage, and quark coalescence are important ingredients leading to the near-side depression. In particular, we find that a finite expansion of the parton system leads to a finite space-momentum correlation at hadronization, which then converts the near-side depression in the coordinate space to that in the momentum space. These results suggest that a partonic matter with a finite lifetime is formed in the pp collisions. Further studies are needed to determine whether the partonic matter is near local equilibrium and can thus be called a QGP or far away from local equilibrium.

Production of light antinuclei in $pp$ collisions by dynamical coalescence and their fluxes in cosmic rays near earth

Light antinucleus yields are calculated in a multiphase transport model (AMPT) coupled with a dynamical coalescence model. The model is tuned to reproduce the transverse momentum and rapidity distributions of antiproton in $pp$ collisions at $\rm \sqrt{s}$ = 7.7 GeV to 7 TeV. By applying a widely used cosmic ray propagation model, the antinucleus fluxes near the earth are estimated over a broad range of kinetic energies. Our result on the antideuteron flux is consistent with the calculations in the literature, while our upper limit on the antihelium-3 flux sits in-between calculations in the field that span an order of magnitude in its value. This study suggests that further accurate estimation of secondary antihelium-3 flux could be improved with more ground-based experiments and model simulations. Most importantly, our value of antinucleus background from hadronic source is far below the projected sensitivity of AMS-02 with 5 years of integration time, which supports the idea of searching for new physics by measurements of light antinuclei in upcoming decade.

Clustering structure effect on Hanbury-Brown-Twiss correlation in $^{12}$C + $^{197}$Au collisions at 200 GeV}

Through $^{12}$C + $^{197}$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} =$ 200 GeV using a multiphase transport (AMPT) model, the azimuthal angle dependences of the Hanbury Brown-Twiss (HBT) radii relative to the second- and third-order participant plane from $π$-$π$ correlations are discussed. Three initial geometric configurations of $^{12}$C, namely three-$α$-cluster triangle, three-$α$-cluster chain and Woods-Saxon distribution of nucleons, are taken into account, and their effects on the correlations are investigated. The ratio of the third- to the second-order HBT radii $R_{o(s),3}^2/R_{o(s),2}^2$ is shown to be a clear probe for three configurations. In addition, this work presents the hadronic rescattering time evolution of the azimuthally dependent HBT radii. From the present study, one can learn that the HBT correlation from identical particles at freeze-out is able to provide the information of different initial configurations as collective flow proposed before.

Probing QCD critical fluctuations from the yield ratio of strange hadrons in relativistic heavy-ion collisions

By analyzing the available data on strange hadrons in central Pb+Pb collisions from the NA49 Collaboration at the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) and in central Au+Au collisions from the STAR Collaboration at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider (RHIC) in a wide collision energy range from $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 6.3 GeV to 200 GeV, we find a possible non-monotonic behavior in the ratio $\mathcal{O}_\text{K-$Ξ$-$ϕ$-$Λ$}$= $\frac{N(K^+)N(Ξ^-)}{N(ϕ)N(Λ)}$ of $K^+$, $Ξ^-$, $ϕ$, and $Λ$ yields as a function of $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$. Based on the quark coalescence model, which can take into account the effect of quark density fluctuations on hadron production, a possible non-monotonic behavior in the dependence of the strange quark density fluctuation on $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ is obtained. This is in contrast to the coalescence model that does not include quark density fluctuations and also to the statistical hadronization model as both fail to describe even qualitatively the collision energy dependence of the ratio $\mathcal{O}_\text{K-$Ξ$-$ϕ$-$Λ$}$. Our findings thus suggest that the signal and location of a possible critical endpoint in the QCD phase diagram, which is expected to result in large quark density fluctuations, can be found in the on-going Bean Energy Scan program at RHIC.

Soft Pilot Reuse and Multi-Cell Block Diagonalization Precoding for Massive MIMO Systems

The users at cell edge of a massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system suffer from severe pilot contamination, which leads to poor quality of service (QoS). In order to enhance the QoS for these edge users, soft pilot reuse (SPR) combined with multi-cell block diagonalization (MBD) precoding are proposed. Specifically, the users are divided into two groups according to their large-scale fading coefficients, referred to as the center users, who only suffer from modest pilot contamination and the edge users, who suffer from severe pilot contamination. Based on this distinction, the SPR scheme is proposed for improving the QoS for the edge users, whereby a cell-center pilot group is reused for all cell-center users in all cells, while a cell-edge pilot group is applied for the edge users in the adjacent cells. By extending the classical block diagonalization precoding to a multi-cell scenario, the MBD precoding scheme projects the downlink transmit signal onto the null space of the subspace spanned by the inter-cell channels of the edge users in adjacent cells. Thus, the inter-cell interference contaminating the edge users' signals in the adjacent cells can be efficiently mitigated and hence the QoS of these edge users can be further enhanced. Our theoretical analysis and simulation results demonstrate that both the uplink and downlink rates of the edge users are significantly improved, albeit at the cost of the slightly decreased rate of center users.

Effect of final state interactions on particle production in $d$+Au collisions at RHIC

We show that particle species dependence of enhanced hadron production at intermediate transverse momentum (p_{T}) for d+Au collisions at RHIC can be understood in terms of the hadronic rescatterings in the final state. A multiphase transport model (AMPT) with two different hadronization mechanisms: string fragmentation or parton coalescence, is used in our study. When the hadrons are formed from string fragmentation, the subsequent hadronic rescatterings will result in particle mass dependence of nuclear modification factor R_{CP}, which is consistent with the present experimental data. On the other hand, in the framework of parton coalescence, the mass dependence disappears and the strangeness plays an important role. Both mechanisms failed to reproduce the p_{T} dependence of R_{CP} of pion, indicating that initial-state effects might be also important in such collisions.

On Optimum End-to-End Distortion in MIMO Systems

This paper presents the joint impact of the numbers of antennas, source-to-channel bandwidth ratio and spatial correlation on the optimum expected end-to-end distortion in an outage-free MIMO system. In particular, based on an analytical expression valid for any SNR, a closed-form expression of the optimum asymptotic expected end-to-end distortion valid for high SNR is derived. It is comprised of the optimum distortion exponent and the multiplicative optimum distortion factor. Demonstrated by the simulation results, the analysis on the joint impact of the optimum distortion exponent and the optimum distortion factor explains the behavior of the optimum expected end-to-end distortion varying with the numbers of antennas, source-to-channel bandwidth ratio and spatial correlation. It is also proved that as the correlation tends to zero, the optimum asymptotic expected end-to-end distortion in the setting of correlated channel approaches that in the setting of uncorrelated channel. The results in this paper could be performance objectives for analog-source transmission systems. To some extend, they are instructive for system design.

On Optimum End-to-End Distortion in Wideband MIMO Systems

This paper presents the impact of frequency diversity on the optimum expected end-to-end distortion (EED) in an outage-free wideband multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system. We provide the closed-form expression of optimum asymptotic expected EED comprised of the optimum distortion exponent and the multiplicative optimum distortion factor for high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). It is shown that frequency diversity can improve EED though it has no effect on ergodic capacity. The improvement becomes slight when the frequency diversity order is greater than a certain number. The lower bounds related to infinite frequency diversity are derived. The results for outage-free systems are the bounds for outage-suffering systems and they are instructive for system design.
