Classification of incompatibility for two orthonormal bases

For two orthonormal bases of a $d$-dimensional complex Hilbert space, the notion of complete incompatibility was introduced recently by De Bièvre [Phys. Rev. Lett. 127, 190404 (2021)]. In this work, we introduce the notion of $s$-order incompatibility with positive integer $s$ satisfying $2\leq s\leq d+1.$ In particular, $(d+1)$-order incompatibility just coincides with the complete incompatibility. We establish some relations between $s$-order incompatibility, minimal support uncertainty and rank deficiency of the transition matrix. As an example, we determine the incompatibility order of the discrete Fourier transform with any finite dimension.

Real-time automatic polyp detection in colonoscopy using feature enhancement module and spatiotemporal similarity correlation unit

Automatic detection of polyps is challenging because different polyps vary greatly, while the changes between polyps and their analogues are small. The state-of-the-art methods are based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs). However, they may fail due to lack of training data, resulting in high rates of missed detection and false positives (FPs). In order to solve these problems, our method combines the two-dimensional (2-D) CNN-based real-time object detector network with spatiotemporal information. Firstly, we use a 2-D detector network to detect static images and frames, and based on the detector network, we propose two feature enhancement modules-the FP Relearning Module (FPRM) to make the detector network learning more about the features of FPs for higher precision, and the Image Style Transfer Module (ISTM) to enhance the features of polyps for sensitivity improvement. In video detection, we integrate spatiotemporal information, which uses Structural Similarity (SSIM) to measure the similarity between video frames. Finally, we propose the Inter-frame Similarity Correlation Unit (ISCU) to combine the results obtained by the detector network and frame similarity to make the final decision. We verify our method on both private databases and publicly available databases. Experimental results show that these modules and units provide a performance improvement compared with the baseline method. Comparison with the state-of-the-art methods shows that the proposed method outperforms the existing ones which can meet real-time constraints. It's demonstrated that our method provides a performance improvement in sensitivity, precision and specificity, and has great potential to be applied in clinical colonoscopy.

$l_{1}$ norm of coherence is not equal to its convex roof quantifier

Since a rigorous framework for quantifying quantum coherence was established by Baumgratz et al. [T. Baumgratz, M. Cramer, and M. B. Plenio, Phys. Rev. Lett. 113, 140401 (2014)], many coherence measures have been found. For a given coherence measure $C$, extending the values of $C$ on pure states to mixed states by the convex roof construction, we will get a valid coherence measure $\overline{C}$, we call $\overline{C}$ the corresponding convex roof quantifier of $C$. Whether $C=\overline{C}$ for a given coherence measure is an important question. In this work, we show that for the widely used coherence measure, $l_{1}$ norm of coherence $C_{l_{1}}$, it holds that $C_{l_{1}}\neq \overline{C_{l_{1}}}$.

Estimating coherence with respect to general quantum measurements

The conventional coherence is defined with respect to a fixed orthonormal basis, i.e., to a von Neumann measurement. Recently, generalized quantum coherence with respect to general positive operator-valued measurements (POVMs) has been presented. Several well-defined coherence measures, such as the relative entropy of coherence $C_{r}$, the $l_{1}$ norm of coherence $C_{l_{1}}$ and the coherence $C_{T,α}$ based on Tsallis relative entropy with respect to general POVMs have been obtained. In this work, we investigate the properties of $C_{r}$, $l_{1}$ and $C_{T,α}$. We estimate the upper bounds of $C_{l_{1}}$; we show that the minimal error probability of the least square measurement state discrimination is given by $C_{T,1/2}$; we derive the uncertainty relations given by $C_{r}$, and calculate the average values of $C_{r}$, $C_{T,α}$ and $C_{l_{1}}$ over random pure quantum states. All these results include the corresponding results of the conventional coherence as special cases.

Coherence measures with respect to general quantum measurements

Quantum coherence with respect to orthonormal bases has been studied extensively in the past few years. Recently, Bischof, et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 123, 110402 (2019)] generalized it to the case of general positive operator-valued measure (POVM) measurements. Such POVM-based coherence, including the block coherence as a special case, have significant operational interpretations in quantifying the advantage of quantum states in quantum information processing. In this work we first establish an alternative framework for quantifying the block coherence and provide several block coherence measures. We then present several coherence measures with respect to POVM measurements, and prove a conjecture on the $l_{1}$-norm related POVM coherence measure.

Detecting macroscopic quantum coherence with a cavity optomechanical system

The rigorous resource framework of quantum coherence has been set up recently and excited a wide variety of interests. Here we show that a quantum cavity optomechanical system, as an emerging platform, can behave with a certain value of quantum coherence at a macroscopic scale. We also find that the difference between the total optomechanical coherence and the sum of the optical and the mechanical coherence just equals their mutual information. Motivated by the detection of the optomechanical entanglement, an experimentally feasible scheme to probe the optomechanical coherence is proposed.

Modeling Tunneling for the Unconventional Superconducting Proximity Effect

Recently there has been reinvigorated interest in the superconducting proximity effect, driven by predictions of the emergence of Majorana fermions. To help guide this search, we have developed a phenomenological model for the tunneling spectra in anisotropic superconductor-normal metal proximity devices. We combine successful approaches used in s-wave proximity and standard d-wave tunneling to reproduce tunneling spectra in d-wave proximity devices, and clarify the origin of various features. Different variations of the pair potential are considered, resulting from the proximity-induced superconductivity. Furthermore, the effective pair potential felt by the quasiparticles is momentum-dependent in contrast to s-wave superconductors. The probabilities of reflection and transmission are calculated by solving the Bogoliubov equations. Our results are consistent with experimental observations of the unconventional proximity effect and provide important experimental parameters such as the size and length scale of the proximity induced gap, as well as the conditions needed to observe the reduced and full superconducting gaps.

Multipartite fully entangled fraction

Fully entangled fraction is a definition for bipartite states, which is tightly related to bipartite maximally entangled states, and has clear experimental and theoretical significance. In this work, we generalize it to multipartite case, we call the generalized version multipartite fully entangled fraction (MFEF). MFEF measures the closeness of a state to GHZ states. The analytical expressions of MFEF are very difficult to obtain except for very special states, however, we show that, the MFEF of any state is determined by a system of finite-order polynomial equations. Therefore, the MFEF can be efficiently numerically computed.

Oblique discord

Discord and entanglement characterize two kinds of quantum correlations, and discord captures more correlation than entanglement in the sense that even separable states may have nonzero discord. In this paper, we propose a new kind of quantum correlation we call it oblique discord. A zero-discord state corresponds to an orthonormal basis, while a zero-oblique-discord state corresponds to a basis which is not necessarily orthogonal. Under this definition, the set of zero-discord states is properly contained inside the set of zero-oblique-discord states, and the set of zero-oblique-discord states is properly contained inside the set of separable states. We give a characterization of zero-oblique-discord states via quantum operation, provide a geometric measure for oblique discord, and raise a conjecture with it holds we can define an information-theoretic measure for oblique discord. Also, we point out that, the definition of oblique discord can be properly extended to some different versions just as the case of quantum discord.

Quantifying coherence of Gaussian states

Coherence arises from the superposition principle and plays a key role in quantum mechanics. Recently, Baumgratz et al. [T. Baumgratz, M. Cramer, and M. B. Plenio, Phys. Rev. Lett. 113, 140401 (2014)] established a rigorous framework for quantifying the coherence of finite dimensional quantum states. In this work we provide a framework for quantifying the coherence of Gaussian states and explicitly give a coherence measure based on the relative entropy.

Geometric measure of quantum discord over two-sided projective measurements

The original definition of quantum discord of bipartite states was defined over one-sided projective measurements, it describes quantum correlation more extensively than entanglement. Dakic, Vedral, and Brukner [Phys. Rev. Lett. 105 (2010) 190502] introduced a geometric measure for this quantum discord, and Luo, Fu [Phys. Rev. A 82 (2010) 034302] simplified the variation expression of it. In this paper we introduce a geometric measure for the quantum discord over two-sided projective measurements. A simplified expression and a lower bound of this geometric measure are derived and explicit expressions are obtained for some special cases.

Robustness of quantum discord to sudden death in NMR

We investigate the dynamics of entanglement and quantum discord of two qubits in liquid state homonuclear NMR. Applying a phenomenological description for NMR under relaxation process, and taking a group of typical parameters of NMR, we show that when a zero initial state $|00> $ experiences a relaxation process, its entanglement disappears completely after a sequence of so-called sudden deaths and revivals, while the quantum discord retains remarkable values after a sequence of oscillations. That is to say, the quantum discord is more robust than entanglement.
